From 1982, an Eyewitness News brief - also known as the "Tonight at 11" promo. Bill Beutel is subbing for Ernie Anastos aside Rose Ann Scamardella. They're on the 1979 woodpanel set.
This Eyewitness News Brief is brought to you by... Acme! For the uninitiated, Acme Markets is a supermarket chain predominantly located in the Philadelphia metro area. In 1982 it had enough of a presence in the greater New York area to advertise on the local television stations. The chain has since retrenched to the point where it is mostly concentrated in Philadelphia and its suburbs with a few stores in North Jersey and Maryland.
It was the East Coast arm of American Stores, which owned Alpha Beta in California; Acme used the same great Alan Hamel ads during the early 1980s. American Stores was acquired by Albertsons in 1998, which in turn was purchased by Supervalu in 2006. The Acme/Alpha Beta ad, unfortunately, was cut off like this in the tape I had.
