With all the hype over compliant mechanisms in the engineering world, I'm actually surprised that it took them this long to try it out for transformers. Supposedly, compliant mechanisms are more wear resistant than traditional linkages, so providing they don't cheap out too much and use a brittle material, it should be fine.

Weirdest ones I think i had as a child were the ones when the bayverse was at its peak, it was just the vehicle modes with a plastic engraving of the character transformed on the bottom with their name and insignia. Weird and maybe pointless but my parents had no money to constantly buy the normal transforming ones so these ones being cheap were a good alternative and I loved them so

Gotta admit that’s a pretty unique design. Being able to change it by just spinning the parts. With transformers you have to physically move each piece into place. Neat toy honestly.

TJ Omega put up a video of the gimmicks they're using with the Rise of the Beasts releases, and used the Cheetor toy for an example of the Flex Changers, in case anyone's interested. I will say, I gind the flex change intriguing, though I also have the same sentiment about much the bands might during play.

I miss the days when unique gimmicks like this would be used for the basis of making a new character, instead of just making a million different versions of the same character. Like, even if the gimmick sucked, at least you would get a quirky new character out of it.
