"WADE IN THE WATER" is the first song from our EP: Black History Project: OUT NOW ON ALL STREAMING PLATFORMS: www.thespiritu...
Spotify: open.spotify.c...
Apple Music: / black-history-project-...
Originally released on TBN as a powerful tribute to songs that have marked monumental
moments in black history, music and culture; singer/songwriter, Junior Garr and choir conductor, Marsha B. Morrison, navigated The Spirituals Choir in a time of great uncertainty to give a message of hope.
“This is a collection of negro spirituals and songs that have inspired and championed the story of black people. With all that is happening in the world today there has never been a better time for the power of music to bring us together. This is a commemoration of not only our breakthrough and achievements but also an acknowledgement of the continuous pain and sorrow experienced by Black people today. We must find a way to foster and fight for the justice and equality of Black individuals everywhere. Justice and the good news go hand in hand.” - Junior Garr

Lyrics:
CHORUS:
Wade in the water we dey
Wade in the water children
Wade in the water,
God said He’s gonna trouble the water
VERSE ONE:
We are the sons and the daughters
We gotta stand up and make it loud
Just like our God told the Pharaoh
Let my people go (go)
We are a new generation
From the ones who have gone before
He’s calling us out of bondage
Let my people go (go)
CHORUS:
Wade in the water we dey
Wade in the water children
Wade in the water,
God said he’s gonna trouble the water
VERSE TWO:
We are the sons and the daughters
We gotta stand up and make it loud
Just like our God told the Pharaoh
Let my people go (go)
We are a new generation
From the ones who have gone before
He’s calling us out of bondage
Let my people go (go)
We no go shy no go shake
E be our Papa God wey he make the heavens
If you no say you no want trouble
Let my people go (go)
The blood sweat and the tears
That we’ve gathered through the years
If you no say you no want trouble
Let my people go (go)
CHORUS
Wade in the water we dey
Wade in the water children
Wade in the water,
God said he’s gonna trouble the water

As a 16 year old turning 17 soon this song makes me SOOO happy and proud of who I am... a young black Christian Nigerian girl. The young generation coming out and shining everywhere! Each time I hear this song it makes me want to join the group and vibe with them! May the talented voices of this group shine bright and go onto greater and blessed things! Show the world @thespiritualschoir who you are as a group of black young people! Show them what they are missing out on! :)

My wife is 8 months pregnant and today while driving she was in a terrible head-on collision. Her car was pushed 15 meters while she was inside. She was transferred from the driver's seat to the passenger seat. I thank God that she survived without any injuries except the swelling. After checking, the baby is 100% okay. God is great.

My heart's breaking but I'm singing and praising the most high God. He made no mistake creating me despite how people treat me badly and make me hurt. I'll always choose love and with that comes consequences just like God so loved the world his consequences were giving his only son for the sins of mankind and being crucified. I'm nowhere to be classified on God's standard but my God made me in his image and likeness and therefore I am worthy 🙏🏿❤️

Amen I’m 16 too I have been baptized and go to church but the feeling of the Holy Spirit can flow over you and accept it and pray to God and read his word. This life isn’t easy and it’s not going to be easy but it’s worth it because after all of your heart ache and problems and traumas there’s heaven but only if you live by God and his word. Not every church is the right church most churches their are fake leaders teaching the word by their flesh and emotions but that’s why it’s important to read Gods word to know the truth (the wisdom of God) so I hope this encourages you to accept the Lord for yourself and know that God is with you at the right time and all the time. God loves you and he wants a relationship with you ❤️

As a 45-year-old war veteran, I’ve lost every relationship and failed at everything. One day, I was crying in bed and prayed to God. I told Him I had nothing to offer but my broken heart. He spoke to me, saying, “It’s okay to fall apart, I’ve got you.” Then He said, “I’ve got amazing things in store for you, just trust me.” 3 weeks later Seeing my life turn around for the good After reading about her, I found her website and reached out. Her kindness led me to a business venture I never imagined I’d enjoy. Her guidance gave me a new sense of purpose and community. Now, I feel more fulfilled and happier than ever. This song and Teresa’s influence have been true blessings in my life!. Grateful for my Life....!/

It's how pidgin was infused into this song. What a blessing to be Black and African...
@u7617
@u7617 3 жыл бұрын
Pidgin is Nigerian, though other Africans have started learning it, speaking it and using it in their own way. However pidgin is solely a Nigerian language and originates from Nigeria. Pidgin comprises of the infusion of native words from major tribes of Nigerian specifically (Youruba, Hausa and Igbo and Benin and Broken English). In West Africa you have one other country which also speaks broken English which is Sierra Leone, their broken english is similar to Nigerian pidgin but it's different and called 'Creo'. Which also a mix of broken English and other words from their native languages. Formally, Nigeria and Sierra Leone are the only two countries in Africa that speak broken English historically and both versions are decades old.. In the past 30 or so years alot of other Africans countires (even the ones who are French speaking/francophone counties have started adopting the Nigerian pidgin) due to the years of exposure to the consumption of Nigerian culture through Nollywood (which is the Nigeria movie/film industry) Nigerian music, and cross country trades etc...

@U. Pidgin is Not Nigerian!!! It’s a language that was born out of the difficulties the people had to communicate with the colonial master specifically Britain. Pidgin has been used in Nigeria,Cameroon and Ghana since colonialism. The reason why it sounds different in other countries is because it is English infused with local languages.

Knowing that this song came from my enslaved ancestors in America and seeing my people in London singing it knowing how far we’ve come makes me so emotional. A lot of black people in America have a large percentage of Nigerian blood running through their veins so there’s that. … but at the end of the day those are borders that colonialism created to divide us. Love to the African diaspora. We are one. ❤️

Sis, we are the same! The fact that some were taken/stolen away centuries earlier does not change that fact. I see the similarities in us (Africans & African-Americans) and smile. They use mis-information and dis-information to divide us but if we down our tools for just a few moments, we will find we have more in common than we have differences. This song is 🔥🔥🔥🙏👍🏽

For our ancestors who drowned themselves in refusal to becoming slaves, to our ancestors who were forced over the waters into slavery ,to the ones thrown in the water for the white man to get insurance, to the ones who had crossed the water to Ghana(wilderness) from Israel and Egypt( old Canaan). To our new generation brothers and sisters who will fly on the wings of eagles(planes) and cross over the waters back to the wilderness. God is calling His people back. The devil is rising, so are God’s children. Through is wonderful son Yesu(Jesus, Yahshua) we will rise in His Grace and love. He’ll destroy this world and the waters, where we will reside in a new heaven, in a new earth with him. Stay righteous, and love another as yourself. Love this song, it’s the message I get from it. I read your Bibles.

This is definitely not a Nigerian song. This is an old African American song. This is what they called an "Negro Old Spiritual Song". Sorry but you guys can't take credit for everything. AA had these old Spiritual Songs singing through hardship and oppression. Gospel, Blues Soul R&B Country, Jazz, Soul and Rock & Roll. No one can take credit for what we have done an accomplished over here. I remember my granny singing this song. Gospel music was made popular first by African Americans because it got world wide attention from us. Even how they are up without choir robes. Richard Smallwood Kirk Franklin and many others started that not having on choir robes and singing this way. They sound great but give credit where credit is due.

Beautiful song with a rich history: One Biblical reference is The Pool of Bethesda where periodically an angel would trouble or stir the water. Then and only then could the sick enter the water and be healed. It also relates to the Israelites exodus from Egypt through the Red Sea, and the River Jordan crossing into the promised land. Harriet Tubman who led the Underground Railroad to free American slaves used songs to communicate along the escape route. If she sang this song it meant get to the river now! This signified either a designated place of meeting or crossing, or a signal that the slavemasters’ hound dogs were approaching but they couldn’t trace Human scent through the waters. Our Grands & Great-grands passed it along as a baptismal song. Growing up Baptist this was the song the Deacons always sang acapella during baptisms, but with a slower cadence and with foot stomps.

I am 18 years old and this song to me is powerful. Every time I feel down I listen to it and remember that I am the daughter of the most high and with HIM, I am safe, I am loved, I am free. No matter how tough it gets God is there watching and fighting for me I just have to trust him and watch him trouble the waters and bring me to a place I never believed I could go. As I continue on this journey I look back and realize that I truly experienced and saw HIM do acts and bring me through trials in my life I never knew were possible. I could have been dead but I'm alive and every day I wake up is a testimony, another chance to give myself to him. Keep trusting and fighting, with HIM all things are possible. 🙏Shalom

This inspiration was made for my country Nigeria. Quite emotional for me cos we are going through a lot in Nigeria. The situation is a helpless one but I know God will soon trouble the water. The song gave me hope and that’s more than enough.

This, the afro beat slaps crazy, the naija pidgin, the message. Gospel can slap different when spoken in real 'african'. Damn!

Can't believe I just discovered this and it came out 3yrs ago😢. Why it never popped into my music suggestion is a mystery. Now it's constantly on repeat ❤
