I can’t believe this song didn’t win the Best Original Song award at the Oscars. It tells such a powerful _true story_ of enslaved people on their journey to freedom. A meaningful song with so much power, intensity, and deep emotion. it’s a wonderful tribute to Harriet Tubman as well. She was a true African-American hero and this song gives her so much justice. Cynthia did a phenomenal job performing it at the Academy Awards, and I really wish the Academy had made a better decision. Regardless, “Stand Up” will always be the winner for me! 🏆

This song is so so so beautiful and the way she sings with so much emotion absolutely moves my heart. I am so so sorry if you are a POC and have ever had to deal with racsism, your skin color does not define you as a human being or makes you any less of a person. Youre beautiful, youre brave, and youre sure as hell stronger than anyone i have ever met. To all my fellow white people or anyone who needs to hear this, we can help be part of the change, we can help them gain teh justice they oh so deeply deserve. We can help. I also found this through tiktok, i found this song powerful and emotional because they used it to show that it doesn't matter "what you wearing" for r4pe victims. There was a display of clothes on the wall and it was extremely sad because there were baby onesies, a tinkerbell costume, and prom dresses

The song shouldnt be used for other bad situations, though. It takes away the actual meaning of the song which is about black people being used as slaves before, so if a female on tiktok uses this sound behind her talking about s*xual assault it isn't right cause viewers won't focus on the meaning of the sound she's using. But I'm not saying the s*xual assault thing isn't important. :)

Sorry to break it to you, but there are not "innocent" black americans being killed by the police; So far all of the deaths were from felons, and armed people against the police; Look at Joshua for example; he committed 7 felonies and had a knife in his hand resisting arrest; He was a threat and got shot; There is nothing different about these times except for the lying media
@tenderfoxmeat4 жыл бұрын
@@falkyraizu3063 Yes there are. There was a little boy who got killed by police because his mother called the police to help him,he was having a mental breakdown. But instead he got shot and died. Also the cops aren't the people who decide who live or not. I haven't heard any stories of a white person getting killed for doing the same things. There's lot of racial discrimination going on in the goverment
@falkyraizu30634 жыл бұрын
@@tenderfoxmeat The irony is that your telling a story about a "young boy" that you yet have no name for; Statistically speaking white people are proportionately killed more from the police than black people, and when you look at unarmed black civilians who die every year it is only 6, better yet unarmed still dosen't mean dangerous, and the numbers can be lowered even more; All of these modern examples of "innocent" black people dying are not innocent; Breonna Taylor, Joshua, Floyd, Foreman, etc; The list goes on; These were criminals who were dealing with the police, not innocent black people; The only reason why you haven't heard stories on white people who died from the police is because the media is obsessed with stories on african americans and this "systemic racism" that they face to get more clicks on their articles; I can list several white men who died from the police, yet the media dosen't display them; There isn't racial discrimination, and the police don't decide who lives or not;

Shame on EVERYONE involved in the production and promotion of this film | #NotMyHarriet PLEASE READ. Sheesh, where do we begin with this movie lol. For starters, we as American descendants of slaves would like to see American actors represented SPECIFICALLY in these historical films. Recently, Lupita Nyong'o got critical acclaim and catapulted her career by playing an American slave in '12 years of slavery' & Chiwetel Oyelowo had a lead role in the same film playing an American slave. Then, in 2014 David Oyetokunbo played Martin Luther King in 'Selma' and Carmen Elizabeth Ejogo played Coretta Scott King in the same film. Daniel Kaluuya is scheduled to star in the Fred Hampton biopic which has not been released yet. (@t ). This has to change. People are beginning to reject the notion that black American entertainment can be at the forefront globally, but for whatever reason can't produce any black American actors good enough to play themselves? For the most part, conscious black Americans did not enjoy any of the films that I just mentioned. Primarily because they do not feel an attachment to the performance by these foreign actors on screen. The actor's performance is subpar (despite the industry accolades) because they themselves do not carry the generational trauma of American slavery and Jim Crow in their DNA, they just get to capitalize off of it . Now, moving on to the film itself. The main antagonist in the film is a fictional character named 'Bigger Long'. His entire motivation throughout the plot line is to win bounties so that he can afford " white whores". For emphasis, I will remind you that this is a fictional character. If a black man even dreamt about telling another white man that he plans on having sex with a white woman, they would hang his ass up on a tree, castrate him publicly, and do the same to every son that he bears thereafter. It is simply made up. not only did this character not exist, but the entire notion of black bounty slave catchers is also fictional, and is not documented from an historical point of view. So they're rewriting history to paint the picture of a black man being the one who is trying to catch Harriet Tubman and turn her into slavers so that he can collect payment and f*** white women. 🙄. Lol. Let's not even touch on the absolutely obvious subconscious programming involved in a black man named BIGGER LONG looking to FUCK WHITE GIRLS. I'll just let that marinade a second lol. (By the way, Bigger's character is played by an @ black man, of course) And last but not least, Cynthia Erivo. 🤦🏾♂️. There are the tweets that she made in 2013 mocking @' (Ghetto American Accent). She's retweeted Luvie Ajayi who has also had some controversial viewpoints slash comments towards American descendants of slaves, she has even retweeted tweets that claim American descendants of slaves are jealous of Africans. I've even heard rumors that her family is of the 'real born' Diala people in the Osu caste system. They were slave owners right? So a non-american actor who thinks black people are jealous of Africans, who literally has the DNA of black slavers in her blood is now playing Harriet Tubman. We just won't accept that.

Hi Brandy! I agree so much with you!! I am 63 years old and i have listened to a lot of music. Of course, there are different styles in which people do better. But i agree with you, miss Erivo is more than stunning: she is kind of perfect. I am french from Québec, and you see? She is here already! Au revoir! xx

@@izak5775 you don’t know if they aren’t turned to God or will in the future I agree with what u said but it might cause commotion and it’s rlly just unnecessary instead you could’ve started by asking if they believe in God without assuming they don’t and go on from there

The lyrics hit me like a ton of bricks now I can’t stop crying. My people went through so much to get where we are now and we are still fighting injustice, prejudice, racism, etc. we have to stick together and stop the black on black violence before we can expect others to stop treating us badly. Back when blacks were slaves we had to help each other get to freedom and even those who didn’t make it to freedom helped , now look at us killing each other. People like Harriet did not do all of that and go through all of that for us to hurt each other. We have to better as a COMMUNITY before we can expect outsiders to respect us too, That is not to justify injustices brought upon us by people outside of the black community be its something we have to realize.

good thing slavery is over now we got equal right but there still racism i wich everyplace there will be no slavery and racism

Thank you for giving this out to us, please people stop the crime spree it’s hurting us and killing our children. The Black Panthers protected people of our own race and the other man was afraid of them and they stood for value, where is your value today, have you been stripped of everything that matters to the powerful black race that is so rich in knowledge. Stand,stand my people strong with a solid background related to Kings, Queens, Prince and Princesses of AFRICA descendants.

I wish people understood the power in this song, double meaning with one day Israel being taken out of these lands where we’re still looked upon as slaves. Captivity is almost over and we’ll get to our brand new home ✊🏾
