I have the same kettle and had to do the same as you have done by directly connecting it to the car battery if I wanted to boil water which now takes around 20 minutes. I have had the kettle now for about 4 years and it gets used when we go on holidays that is once a year. The heating element is cover with a painted aluminum plate which has become much pitted and the paint on the plate is flaking off. I would have expected much better quality for the price. I have now replace it with a low wattage 230v kettle and a12v to 230v inverter under the seat. This solution works far better for me.

In my work truck I have gone with a 900w pop up silicone 240v Kettle. I have a 1200va victron phoenix and it has been a solid preformer

@@Oneupthesleevecustoms I am also using a Victron 1200VA inverter and it works superbly with a Bodum 700watt bistro Kettle. As I use the inverter with other appliances, i.e. induction cook-top, toaster, etc. I was afraid that I might overheat the alternator or flatten the starter battery so I also install a Victron DC to DC converter to control the charging of lithium battery that I also installed from the van while driving. It works great. The Victron 1200VA inverter will run briefly at 2000 Watts, enough time to turn the induction cooker down to 900W to fry the eggs.

I got one for free but had the plug cut off. I reconnected the plug but unsure of polarity because no marker on the cable. I plugged it in but didn't think it was working and tried reversing polatity: clicking noises but no magic smoke. Thanks for the video because it convinced me to leave it on for a while; and it boiled and switched off. The battery to plug connected got hot, so I probably lost a bit of power.

Yeah big current draw so higher voltage and short cord is a great idea

The important thing with these 12volt kettles is the most people think you can just plug them in to any 12volt socket, you almost always have to have a specific cabling with high current capacity to a new or existing sockets or you will keep blowing fuses or worse. Looks like you just spent the best 5 bucks of your life!

+Karl Bartelt yeah they pull some major juice!!! I was playing around tonight with it and i made and 18v milwaukee battery adaptor so it can run off my cordless tool batterys and it boils in 6mins on a 9.0.ah battery

Looking on Amazon for one of these 12v kettles to use in the Transit. My thinking was if I could find everything in 12 volts I wouldn’t need and inverter to switch power to 110V. (which takes a big draw) when only needing like 8-10amps for phone or ipad. At 14 amps does this seems like a big draw? I see the fridges also run fine on 12 V so thought why not a kettle? 20 min isn’t too long to wait but if pulling a constant 14 amps for that amount of time? Idk a 1800W portable induction can heat in 5 min. What to do? Go with inverter or...

I use mine in my Transit with a 20Amp breaker, no problemo. I had the cigar & aux socket installed on the side panel behind the drivers seat especially for the odd machine with 12 volt power.

I screwed the base to a timber cross (X) to keep it solid while driving up the freeway, just enough to make 2 cups so it didn't spill on any bump, sweet, pulled up with hot water for a cuppa.

From the comments I really thought it was gonna be a fast boil 12 volt kettle but its another slow cooker 🤣🤣🤣

Na only slow you only get 120-150 watts from that sort of power source sadly.

You should never use again 12v batteries in 8 parallel. Only put 4 bigger batteries. You should buy 20Ah cells. What you've done its dangerous. Some of them may discharge in nearest cells at high speed and start heating up. One day, your battery bank its gonna explode.

@@Oneupthesleevecustoms okay 7 mins isn't that bad. I could live with that. I'm thinking of upgrading my 1000w inverter to a 2000w so I can use a microwave or boil a kettle off 240. But if that wacoe kettle can do it in 7mins off 12v I might consider that
