I am wondering if the two WDx locos were just being ferried. It would be highly unusual to pair a WDG and WDP to haul a rake due to their different gearing.

They can't be paired I think because they both have different kinds of technology

@@aboharjunction the WDG and WDP have same base technology. Only gearing ratios are different.

@@BangaloreAviation yup both are from EMD technology yet having different gear ratios that's why they can't be paired . Also I never saw any pair of wdg and wdp type locomotives in my RF career.

@@aboharjunction yup that is exactly what I meant. In a worst case scenario they can be operated as a pair, but will require two very skilled loco pilots in each cab. As I originally said, most likely IR is doing a piggy back operation, ferrying these two EMDs along with a rake. It is not likely this was a breakdown as you said a G and P is not normally paired. Another scenario could be one WD was ferrying the other WD and then it broke down and the WAG was brought to the rescue. 😀 Endless possibilities. Enjoy your rail fanning.

The loco pilot took the 2EMD locos forward and applied the brakes to cover the coaches at the station. Not a single brake but he did it for passengers

Funnily because of 3 locos, even leading loco stopped ahead of home signal. 2 EMDs may be under transhipment to Hyderabad town after getting attended of minor repairs. thanks

That's not home signal...i.e gate cum distant...that is just halt station...not a starter signal...he simply went forward to accomidate coaches along the platform...those locos may be moving towards shed for maintainance

Yes.... This is correct answer. Except signal, in such cases Stn master provides staff to communicate signal aspect to loco pilot or via radio. This method is also used to be communicate signal Aspect between guard and loco pilot where platforms are curved. Additional signal on platform is provided... It is usual scenario in New Delhi Stn, on some platforms.

@@purnimachaudhari nope that is gate cum distant...and that is just halt station...that signal doesn't belong to that station..it is just gate signal and distant for next danger signal...to accomidate platform he just passed that signal in off aspect and stopped...he will wait for few minutes according to stoppage time and start ...no communication needed from station master...

@@ishanjani9885 First of all its a halt station only for passengers sake and signal controlling done in nearby station i.e Kurnool city station!! When the train approached this halt station, LC gates closed, the red signal turned to double yellow and path cleared for this train and the train has halt na so it stopped for passengers and train left after few seconds halt

That is a gate cum distant signal...not starter...that is just a halt station...no starter signal...
