As an ex British Army Guardsman I can tell you both sides are basically doing British Army foot drill but amped up to superhuman levels. I suspect the drill is a hang over from pre independence days. I Know the Indian army is particularly close to the UK in its foot drill, very smart though and obviously well received by the public.
