To fully appreciate the song, you should know the lyrics and background. "Izana" is the primordial spiritual force of nature that was split into the original god Izanagi ("he who invites") and Izanami ("she who invites"). The pair created the islands of Japan but became separated. The part of the song that is a call and response between Yuko and Machiya is a clever repurposing of the calls that children use today in a traditional game of tag. Within the context of the song, the children's song becomes the longing of Izanami and Izangagi to be reunited. The message of the song as a whole is a plea for the healing of nature by returning to its original spiritual unity.

Yuko and Machiya are a match made in heaven vocally. They are amazing, singing as a duo. This is such a great showcase for their individual talents. Love the strings and orchestra as well, adding yet another dimension to a great song. -Beautiful / perfect!

@@rakninja ​ @rakninja Yeah. although I only have a few of the albums, I have watched WB extensively here on YT. - I'd say that for me, they're a good 3rd or 4th in my list of top Japanese bands/artists. - And there is some fierce competition! Yoshiwara Lament is one of those songs that seems happy in the surface, but it's actually a rather heartbreaking tale of love vs duty.

@@triquivijate oh yes. it's an old poem, the lament of a prostitute. resonates strongly with me because i spent the prime of my life selling my body in a different way. it's a really strong song to see preformed live. yoko generally will replace the last "it's raining in yoshiwara" with the city the venue is in and the current weather conditions.

Cultural references aside (Boku wa, Nihon no bunka o, kiyomi ga aru), this performance is rapturous. You can see how much Yuuko enjoys this confluence of tones, during a refrain from vocals, being located at the center of the stream. ロックバンドがオーケストラの前で歌うというのは珍しいのではないでしょうか？２回目ですが。 オーケストラの楽曲の準備、練習を考えると大変なことですね。 また、オーケストラから和楽器バンドに対する、ある意味の承認、尊敬がなければ実現できないでしょう。 和楽器バンドの一人一人はそれぞれが若いときから音楽に真摯に向かい合ってきた本物のミュージシャンですからできるのでしょう。 口パクの歌手には真似のできない世界です。
