"Homura" = flame, "Akatsuki no ito" = Thread of dawn, Both songs are written by Machiya. Akatsuki no ite is used by the audience as an encore chant. The mask he wears is a Noh mask from Noh theater representing the spirit of a woman. He uses it on instrumental songs he brought with him from previous solo projects. Good job!. You are opening the floodgates of asian music!. There is no get back. There are literaly dozens of amazing bands in that part of the world, specially in Japan. And the play incredible live next level performances. You know Alip Bata, The Hu and Waggaki Band yet. If you are interested to travel the rabbit hole... From Corea you could try Jambinai or Rolling Quartz. From Taiwan, Elephant Gym. From Indonesia, Voice of Baceprot. From Hong Kong, Lucid Express. From Japan... well a million bands. My favourites are Band Maid, Nemophila, Lovebites, Unlucky Morpheus, Asterism, Sokoninaru, Ningen Isu, LÁrc en Ciel... Damn... impossible to even try to make a list. Thank you!

"Wa" means (specific to Japan) and "Gakki" means (musical instrument). WagakkiBand was born from vocalist Yuko Suzuhana's desire to "disseminate Japanese classical performing arts to the world in a pop image." She began taking piano lessons at the age of three, and from the age of five she learned a classical performing art called shigin, in which ancient Chinese and Japanese poems are sung in a unique chanting style. WagakkiBand ended its contract with Avex in 2019 and signed a global contract with Universal Music. After that, Avex owned music videos other than live footage will be blocked if used as is, so please be careful.

The band is very frenetic, multiple guitars, multi drums, traditional instruments. Wagakki Band had a special guest to sing: Amy Lee from Evanescence! She even dressed up in traditional costume. "Bring Me To Life".

There aren't enough people who are reacting/listening to Japanese artists.^^ If you're interested in more Japanese music I have a few recommendations (Some are available with subtitles). Artist: 美波 (Minami) Songs: "Main Actor", "Hollowness", "Crying for Rain", "Waiting for Rain". Band: 神聖かまってちゃん (Shinsei Kammattechan) Song:「るるちゃんの自殺配信」(Ruru-chan no jisatsu haishin meaning "Ruru's Suicide Livestream" or "Ruru's Livestream Suicide Show"). It's a tribute to an actual 14 year old girl who called herself Roro-chan or Rorochan_1999. There isn't a lot of background info about her and not everything might be totally accurate, but it's quite disturbing and sad. She would do dangerous things on livestreams like running through traffic or standing on high-up ledges yearning for attention. In 2013 she eventually committed suicide by jumping of the 13th floor of her apartment building while broadcasting it via her phone to become a "legend". Band: ヨルシカ (Yorushika). Songs: 言って。(Itte, meaning "Say It"), "Hitchcock". Band: ポルカドットスティングレイ (Polkadot Stingray). Songs:「Ichidaiji」(meaning "Big Deal" or "Serious Affair/Matter"),「テレキャスター･ストライプ」("Telecaster Stripe"),「化身」(Keshin, meaning "(Re)Incarnation"), "Jet", "Free", "Fiction". Band: ずっと真夜中でいいのに (Zutto mayonakade īnoni) or just Zutomayo in short. Songs: "MILABO",「暗く黒く」("Darken"),「お勉強しといてよ」("Study Me"),「正しくなれない」(Tadashikunarenai meaning "Can't Be Right"),「勘ぐれい」(Kan gurei meaning "Hunch Grey").

Wagakki Band literally means "traditional Japanese instruments band" and their purpose is to keep alive the interest in the traditional stuff by making it cool and modern too. I think this style is called "folk metal" across the world, when different cultures make metal with their historical styles. Every member here is a master-level pro at their instruments. The two drum sets are Wasabi on "normal" drums (well named for his spicy playing!) and Kurona on the traditional taiko (wadaiko) drums. The wadaiko provides extra oomph and off-beat sounds that aren't possible with just one drummer or a normal band drumset. There are whole competitions in Japan built around the traditional drumming techniques on all different sizes, including ones that are about three times as tall as you! Fun fact: Beni's showy tsugaru shamisen can only be played on the downstroke with her weighted bachi (large fanlike pick) and the silk strings change pitch rapidly with changes in humidity, and it has no frets, so she has to play everything by ear and muscle memory! Machiya on guitar rarely wears shoes onstage and wears his traditional Noh mask for the songs like Homura that he wrote before he was with WagakkiBand, to sort of dissociate the two. Kaminaga Daisuke on the shakuhachi flute needs a TON of breath to do what he does--and who doesn't love surprising people that they shred the flute in a metal band? Suzuhana Yuko, the vocalist is a licensed Shigin (poetic recitation) performer and teacher, and can do sword and fan dances. I swear the koto player Ibukuro Kiyoshi has golden fingers. I love the way that each instrument can be heard individually and they work together so well. The baton lights are a way for the crowd to show their support and enjoyment for the band to see while the arena is dark. Here's another Japanese Band that is all Female Power Metal one of many awesome all female Japan groups that include Band Maid,Nemophila,Aldious,Mary's Blood,Gacharic Spin,Trident, and Bridear here's a Live song by Lovebites they are best viewed Live Asami used to be an R&B Singer before converting to metal the 2 Guitarists Midori and Miyako can play better than most guys and Miyako also is a classically trained Pianist shown on (Swan Song with Chopin Intro) and Haruna is awesome on the double bass drums Miho formed the band their Bassist although she recently left they have held auditions for a new Bassist and we should get news this next month on new bassist. in 2018 they won the prestigious Metal Hammer Golden God award for best new band Here's the song Holy War kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJikqaN7paqWpNE

The shamisen is one of those instruments I'd really like to see being played live one day, be it in a traditional or more modern context. It has such a beautiful sound! Same goes for the koto, for that matter. I think that the sounds of both of these instruments are tinged with melancholy, which I feel adds to their beauty (I'm a Swede, we like melancholy 😄). If you want to experience some more Japanese music I'd recommend trying TOKYO GROOVE JOYOSHI 's cover version of " WHAT IS HIP " ( the Official video ) - superb all girl band of musicians that will blow your mind ! A bit more funk than rock

With all said about Wagakki band by other commenters, I recommend the combination of two songs of “Chieno Kajitsu + Somosan Peppa”. Another fun song with all the instruments is “Hakushu Kassai”. Their concert versions are much better than studio versions! Hope you enjoyed further into Wagakki band univers.

I have watched some of your reaction videos and been pleasantly surprised by this one. These guys are fantastic, but I can suggest another Japanese band which IMO is on another level: Ningen Isu, "Heartless Scatt, Toshishun, The Colour Out of Space and Caterpillar".
