BYU vs Hawaii Hawai'i Bowl Preview
Hawaii is riding the strong arm of 6-4 jr. QB Cole McDonald again this season, ranking 6th in the country in passing yardage. McDonald has thrown for 7517 yards and 65 TDs in the last two years, completing 64% this season, but also had an increase in his interceptions (14). McDonald had a bevy of targets, with srs. Cedric Byrd and JoJo Ward combining for 2043 yards and 21 TDs, while soph Jared Smart and sr. Jason Matthew Smart catching 80 passes each. Diminutive (5-8) soph RB Miles Reed gained 891 yds. (5.4 ypc), scoring 8 TDs to lead the team, and McDonald managed 387 YR and 6 scores in HC Nick Rolovich’s updated version of the run-and-shoot the team switched to last season. The Rainbows’ problems have been on the stop end, especially playing at home, as the squad has surrendered 33 ppg, 462 ypg plus a whopping 232 YR & 6.1 ypc at Aloha Stadium this season.
Prefer BYU, which owns a hot QB of its own in Wilson (609 YP, 66% L2Gs), over Hawaii, which faded a bit offensively, being held to its two lowest passing outputs of the season in the final three games, while giving up 7 sacks in those contests. And the Cougs are always very well-supported in Honolulu!

BYU is good for two things. Pump fake everything and see whether their defence alignment is off balance. Motion every hairy all around and maybe the split end may get a come around play. Maybe the time end flares and the safety is is inprevent. Heavy zone motion, bYu team. 1$+ quarter and 2nd quarter, Hawaii has the advantage. After that, the third and fourth quarter goes to repeat plays

@Austin Dixon I hope you aren’t comparing Hawaii’s defense to San Diego States. If you think that Hawaii’s defense is going to hold BYU, than you are not being realistic. Hawaii will need to keep their defense off the field as much as possible.The only chance Hawaii has to win this game is if they do not turn the ball over. They haven’t had much success hanging on to the ball all season. They ranked 127th out 130 in turnover differential with a -14.

I took Wash because I realized the physical and qualitative mismatch, despite the record. HOWEVER...imo, the physical size and strength difference (and overall athletic quality) between BYU and Hawaii is not as significant as between the former two teams. I am not betting this one. Good luck. Frankly, I've had a great overall regular season so far but I've hurt myself with screwing with three little shit games that I should've left alone (though I got four right that I felt better about---but couldn't leave well enough alone). I had four in a row and then those three bizarre games (basically, one "no-show") took out most of the profit. I'm out until the Friday wave and have a plan for that and beyond (Bama Mich OVER-Bama D a shell and three last non-frosh on front seven sitting in this one). I know them a lot better and hope to get back on track. In short, these are fine schools with fine people but these programs, during the holidays, in the islands, BYU long trip out there, massive injuries in their backfield...it would be no shame to walk on this one. Good luck. (If this was regular season game and BYU had at least one of their regular two backs available, I think BYU solid pick...even at +4.)

You guys make good points however. If this game was a neutral site I'd probably be leaning BYU but I think the home field is going to be big. BYU is a different team away from home too. I shall return to this comment section victorious or I will eat crow

Hawaii has been a turnover machine this year. With a turnover differential of -14. Which ranks 127 of 130. The BYU defense is good enough to slow the Hawaii offense enough to win the game by at least 8-10 points. BYU 35 HAWAII 27
