The funny thing about spreads most games don't end anywhere near where the spread is. Some examples the Vikings were favored by 1.5 yet they win 28 to 6. Another example the Bengals favored by 8.5 and lose 10 to 16. Finally the Saints were 4 point favs and win 47-10. Comments welcomed.

The pointspread is designed to split betting action, not to predict final scores. And plenty of examples the other way: Houston - Indy, Arizona - Buffalo, Jacksonville - Miami all decided by a point or less. Thanks for the comment! Best of luck in Week 2!

Occasionally, when I have a strong opinion about how a game will turn out THIS WEEK, I'll bet the 'lookahead' line around a key number, trying to lock in early and get a number that I don't expect to be there. Maybe two or three times a season, not anything I do regularly. Great question, Ken, and thanks for asking!

Are we sure the fins should be laying here? I was on the Jags yesterday and obviously the score was misleading. Defense is supposed to be the weakness of the Jags, and they held the Fins in check most of the game. Take out a long TD and Etienne’s fumble, this game was a one sided affair. Home teams have a big edge on TNF, but that’s more so later in the season. Finally, how many times did the Dolphins step up in class against playoff level opponents last year? Zero. They love to beat up on the bad teams but can’t ever overcome the elite teams.

@@teddycovers4687 Indeed Teddy, I do and I happen to be Bears fan. Look, I understand modeling and long term modeling concepts very well so I get that people work off of data over a period of time. However, did you watch Chicago's offense Sunday? I will admit that Tennessee's defense is probably better, let's say a "B" grade defense vs Houston's "C+" defense but offensively, the difference is enormous regardless of how well Chicagos' defense played toward the end of last season plus the second half of the Tenn game. Caleb Williams , secnd start, on the road, awful i game one. Yeah, Houston 34, Chicago 13.

Dolphins didn’t win? Having almost 200 more total offensive yards!? The jags defense lost in the second half and I’m pretty sure the defense is apart of the jags team so yes the dolphins won by out playing them in the second half same way they came back against the ravens a couple years back
