I remember listening to this Met Broadcast, ecstatic for Leonie, who turned in her best Sieglinde of this run on the broadcast, her farewell to the role. That night, Maestro Levine came to see our Gran Scena performance, glowing from the Leonie performance he'd conducted - as I was from hearing it.

Thank you so much for sharing that insight. It's all too easy to forget that great performances are like ripples on a pool. Best wishes to you for 2023. Please God it's better than 2022 or we're ll in trouble.

I was there! Huge ovations throughout the afternoon. This was a performance in which the three successive holders of the Lotte Lehmann Memorial Ring appeared together: Leonie Rysanek, Hildegard Behrens, and Waltraud Meier.

Time stood still for the great Leonie Rysanek....Incomparable and the most exciting singer in this performance.

That sleeping draught must have been awfully strong for Hunding not to have been awakened by Sieglinde's shriek in Act I lol.

I was there at another of these performances. It was sad to see the contrast between Peter Hofmann, whose voice and operatic career were finshed in his forties, and Rysanek, who was still able to make a powerful effect in a role she had been doing for 35 years.

Rysanek AND Waltraud Meier (!). Amazing I actually think even though she’s lost some bloom and ease this is one of Rysanek’s best sung performances of this role in terms of accuracy.

Arguably a contemporary desert island cast.

The one and only Leonie Rysanek.

I love anything with Leonie Rysanek, and I understand fully the comments regarding Hofmann, Behrens and Adam. But I am happy to hear another Walküre with Leonie Rysanek. Why was it posted in mono and not stereo? Thank you very much. however, for posting this.

The friends who usually taped shows for me were on holiday and their "subs" were apparently strangers to the art of recording. The tape started in stereo, then started to distort badly on one channel, which eventually disappeared, so much of what you got is the right channel, I think, in double mono, not even true mono. The tape turnovers were horrible, there was only a nano second of applause at the ends of Acts 1 and 2 and it took forever to get an outcome which I agree is unsatisfactory. I seriously considered not uploading it, then decided I'd still like to share, so until someone else comes up with an un-sabotaged version I'm afraid we're stuck with this one. I'm truly sorry about this happening to a performance that must have meant so much to Leonie but glad you managed to enjoy it. J

Wow, thanks! Where did you find that? I'm looking for a 1989 full ring with Hans Sotin as Wotan, Franz Mazura as Alberich and Gwyneth Jones as Brunhilde for a long time. Maybe you can help me?

I have seen a Walkure on Premiere Opera's list, but not the other three - "5/2/1989 - Jones, Schun, Gessendorf, Sotin, Dernesch; Levine (3 CDs)" but you probably know about this already. Sorry I can't help you out with recordings but will keep a lookout. Good luck on your search. J

@@starrman22 Premiere Opera? Is this a cd seller or online channel?
@starrman223 жыл бұрын
@@alanmunro5068 It's an online seller with an interesting online catalogue, as is Opera Depot, and there are probably others. Parterre Box has free downloads, wonderful articles and stimulating correspondence. Mixcloud has a smaller but interesting list of operas and other music. They've all got some sort of search facility, but I find Googling the title, cast and date of a performance brings up a good range of links. Happy hunting!
