Wagner Moura didn't speak Spanish and was too skinny to play Pablo Escobar for Netflix's Narcos, so he enrolled in school and gained the "freshman 15" to prep.

He's good friends with the director, Jose Padilha, that was surely the determining factor. (But obviously also is indicative of his acting skills, as Padilha has used him on several large projects)

I totally agree. It was only in certain scenes where he did cruel acts that I didn't approve or like him. But basically for the rest of the series I was 100% rooting for him and was very sad when seeing to what he had come down to in the last chapters.

Pablo was not as "bad" as other Narcos in real life too, these series show us very well how good and bad no longer exist in these kind of conflicts. Sometimes is just monsters fighting monsters in the name of law. Who is going to tell me he or she didn't hate Carrillo after killing Gustavo?

@ratlakmin if he was a family man he wouldn't make his family live in hiding so close to death and destrction. By the way he met his real life wife when she was 13 and she was 15 when he married her. He was 10 years older. Just like his cousin gustavo says on the show "you need to control everything". The main reason he loved her was because he had complete control over her life and groomed her from a young age.

I had the luck of being Wagner's teacher here in Medellín at UPB university. When I asked why they were learning Spanish and why they were at Medellín he told us he was learning in order to get a character for a Netflix series. I didn't believed him, but when Narcos came out and I saw Wagner's name in the open credits, couldn't believe it. I'm glad you achieve to do your character Wagner, great student and a highly charismatic person.

Man, I am amazed with Wagner, I didnt know he was brazilian; when I first saw him in Narcos as Pablo, I didnt have any doubt that he was born in Colombia. I am from Peru and I know how people in Colombia speaks. Incredible acting!, but not only that, his presence on screen was outstanding, his energy and power without even saying a word. So, he started with the language which is hard in itself and then start building up the character....

You guys should watch " Elite Squad " on Netflix with him as main character and directed by the same director as Narcos, José Padilha. It's a great movie. ( José Padilha and Wagner Moura are like Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. They're always working together )

i knew he was a Brazilian actor from his other earlier movies...so, when i heard he's playing Escobar on Narcos, i just assumed he's always been bilingual. WOW!!! to learn he just started studying the language AFTER he found out he was cast in this project...and to pull it off (although, i learned that some local COLOMBIAN critics pointed out most of the non-colombian actors, including Wagner, did have accents...but, still, to those other general non-spanish speaking audience..Wagner nailed it).

Wagner Moura portrays a monster, but his incredible acting makes you want to root for his character as Pablo. That is what I call acting and I'm so glad he's finally getting recognition for being the talented actor he truly is.

The moment where Pablo (Wagner) is arguing with his father at his father's farm and his father says: "Quieres saber lo que pienso de ti? Usted es un asesino, Pablo. When Tata is watching Pablo's body being carried away and cries desperately in front of the TV, it just makes the scene more sad and also makes you feel kinda bad for Pablo and her. The background music Mi serenata de amor also doesn't make it easy.
