I saw one of the Rysanek/Vickers Parsifals during this 1985 run. They were both about 55 or 60. Act II was the one and only time I have heard an opera in which the singers were not singing about sex--they were doing it! Right in front of 7600 ears. Spectacular!

Vickers has a wonderful voice but this role, like many of Wagner's heros this role demands a youthful voice and in Parsifal it must float ethereally. I really think Jess Thomas in his Bayreuth recording with a superb cast and Knappertsbuch cannot be beaten. In fact London and Talvela (who I actually saw in a Lieder recital) have been mentioned. Plus Hotter of course giving everything. That one is authentic and the live recording is actually better than this with more acoustic depth and a high fidelity tone.

Swap Leonie Ryansek for Waltraud Meier, you'll have the best Akt 2 you could ever have ^_^ Swap Simon Estes with George London as well, (and maybe have Martti Talvela as Titurel), you'd have the perfect cast
