They are rotary valve trumpets - opposed to the more common piston vave trumpets.

Extraordinary music, interpretation - from a city where Wagner lived and worked, from where he fled into exile after a mutiny. Amazingly his career started working for the King, of Saxony, and ended, more famously, for the King of Bavaria, while he identified with the revolutionary Rienzi. What a great opera, it is a pity it is rarely staged. Maestro Sinopoli and the orchestra are fantastic. Bravi tutti! ❤❤❤

Wunderschöne und detaillierte Aufführung dieser romantischen und perfekt komponierten Ouvertüre mit farbenreichen doch perfekt entsprechenden Tönen aller Instrumente. Der intelligente und geniale italienische Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete deutsche Orchester im gut analysierten Tempo und mit perfekt kontrollierter Dynamik. Einfach wunderbar!

What a great conductor is Sinopoli and also a great performance of the DW orchestra, despite that it is the 3th and the longest Wagnerian opera, the overture is not up of the rest Wagnerian operas overtures.

In the phenomenal documentary, The Architecture of Doom, it is stated that it was while watching a performance of the Overture to Rienzi that Hitler had an epiphany and all the various things he had in his mind for Germany crystallized.

9:17 Bei z.B. dieser Stelle hört man viel an Tenor- und Bassposaune, aber sehr wenig an Tuba. Es verwundert nicht, da es sich hier um eine vergleichsweise kleine Bauform handelt. Aber warum nimmt man im großen Sinfonieorchester dann ein solches Instrument, wenn man damit quasi „gegen“ das restliche Orchester „anspielen“ muss? Soll explizit keine Kritik am Tubisten selbst und seiner Spielweise sein, sondern lediglich am gewählten Instrument.

J'avais le trac au debut du morceau car c'était en 1975 lorsque j'ai joué a l'harmonie et trompettiste c'est moi qui commençait 3 fois de suite un do ou si et pareil au milieu de l'ouvrage on peut louper la note a la trompette 🎺🎚️🎺
