ahah i like the tractors with the foot peddle...you can drive em like a standard car...i drive my neighbors like one...its kidna fun:) especially since u get a big cloud of smoke at every shift
@wagner5927015 жыл бұрын
yes I think I mentioned that in the video along with the fact that since there is 4 ranges and 4 gears you have 16 different ranges speeds gears positions possibilities ect ect...
@lobsterbox2014 жыл бұрын
all older tractors have character. My Grandpa has an old massey 44 and it has some bad leaks around the seals. I asked him what he does about it and he says "I just put straight 50 oil in it and don't start it in the winter!" Our neighbor has an old mccormick WD series that practically runs on ether and the hydraulics have a mind of their own.
@wagner5927015 жыл бұрын
yup I put in an alpine tape deck after the am radio went up in smoke... it does have heat but the a/c has never worked as long as weve owned it... gets pretty hot in there during haying season
@andymotl8 жыл бұрын
Injectors are probably dirty/shot. Good way to blow a head gasket shooting ether before the engine is cranking.

There is a 4430 that is shown here starting up in the cold to.That Quad Range was was introduced as part of the these 4 tractors in 1972.NOT 16 different ranges but 16 different speeds

@wagner5927014 жыл бұрын
@HCC886 yeah to be honest i wasnt too keen on making this video cause i knew I would grind the gears, but since I was asked for it i figured Id try it, to be honest i cant remember ever having a red tractor on the ranch, although we do have an allis chalmers
@wagner5927015 жыл бұрын
yeah it is... gotta love the diesels...very simple just pull the number range stick all the way back in any letter range but D slap left for R2 right for R1 kinda fun... gives you 6 reverse ranges
@wagner5927015 жыл бұрын
usually with the quad range Ill set it in one of the letter ranges: A B C or D and just use the number ranges to get up to speed... depends on the load your hauling
@farmalldeereman14 жыл бұрын
If you read the operators manual it will tell you that the right hand shift lever is not to be shifted on the fly. The gears are not synchronized. It will cause damage eventually. Choose your range then shift the LH lever. If you need another speed then stop and shift the RH lever.
@johnchiles94378 жыл бұрын
Dude your supposed to stop when you shift ranges!
@gasmonkey96003 жыл бұрын
It don't matter cuz it's got a hand throttle it don't matter if you let off the gas or not when you're shifting gears it's got to hand throttle
@toverublacksmithing91963 жыл бұрын
I full heartedly believe that you do have to stop to change ranges. In our 4430 my father was bailing and changed ranges from B to A and now the A range is no longer existing. We lost park too because it is connected to A some how. So be carful with your shifting habits.
@strawberryroan19412 жыл бұрын
@@toverublacksmithing9196 The reason you lost park is because the way it works in a JD Quad Range is A and C range mesh and lock together to create park in the transmission. That’s why you really want to be at a full stop when going into park also. It is EXTREMELY important not to shift ranges on the go, doesn’t take very long to destroy the transmission and B range is at the very bottom of the case, so all the other transmission parts have to come out to repair it, and A is the second next worse, as it is on top of B and so on. Costly repairs for something that is so easily avoidable when a person just operates it as it was intended.
@toverublacksmithing91962 жыл бұрын
@@strawberryroan1941 Thanks for explaining that, we aren’t planning on fixing it because we can cut hay in B1. But darn, it was really handy to have A. I thought the way park worked was that there was a nob that came off the case to interlock with A, but I must me thinking of a power shift. The way my dad explained it to me, on power shifts you need, absolutely need to stop before putting it in park because he saw a 7120 throw all of its gears out of the tractor and into the grass beside it because the guy put it in park before stoping, kind of scary to think about.

ha ha I wont be keeping any diesel mechanics besides me in job here lol but believe me I know... I just had this tractor split for tranny work last year... its also why I generally dont shift between main ranges, usually I leave it in C or B and just use the secondaries however had viewer that wanted to see it so I figured I would oblige... like they say though if you cant find it, grind it lol

sounds like my cousin's 2755- 75hp 4 cyl. turbo sucks the fuel about like that thing does- now the 2940s are the best on their farm for fuel economy- use them for wraping, spreading shit, baling, raking, hauling silage, sometimes chopping...

Do you acctualy have to stop every time you change range or is it just the same as a crash gearbox, where you just get the timeing and the throttle right, and have little to no grinding?

One of the sounds that makes me cringe is the sound of a transmission grinding. I don't know why because the only thing that I have ever driven were that would be an issue is my grandpa's Gravely garden tractor. I guess being mechanicaly minded may have something to do with it.
@bergercw15 жыл бұрын
gear jamming is soo fun. it is really fun with old diesels. but you never showed how to put your tractor into reverse
@NESTORMAD14 жыл бұрын
@stefant413 жыл бұрын
why doesent it have a gas pedal? is it just missing because it's an older tractor,or is it intended that way? because it seems a bit dangerous to me when you're driving on the road and you have to brake suddenly....

We have a john deere 4230 we pull a 568 bailer with it at 2000 rpm and it only uses about a gallon an hour. It fires right up at -10° clearly you don't take care off things
@tiger55513 жыл бұрын
Bruh you stop and shift gears instead of shifting while you drive it, and for gods sakes you only give it a little bit of throttle when you start it up, you will learn someday when you break the damn thing Dang your gonna wear out the gears from grinding them so much lol
@bigbear58514 жыл бұрын
its almost impossible to stop every time grind it in lol u cant stop while tryn to pull loads uphill
@JCB411abuser8 жыл бұрын
lads it's a crash gearbox, now if you have foot throttle changing ranges would be easy peasy with next to no grind.
@richthecardude9415 жыл бұрын

@dixielandfarms86287 жыл бұрын
Unless it is a synchronized transmission then you should NEVER shift without the clutch!!!!
@toverublacksmithing91962 жыл бұрын
You’re right, but the 1 and 2 gears are power shift. Same goes for the 3 and 4 gears. You do need the clutch to go from 2 to 3 and you always need to stop the tractor and clutch in order to shift from A through D. We have a 4430 and the people before us didn’t stop to shift from A to D, therefore, last year the A range stoped working and in connection with that, park doesn’t work either. It’s very important to use them properly.
