I dont know what im doing man. When downloading EmuDeck I set the ditectory to my MicroSD. I downloaded a romset and extracted all the roms to the proper folder in the emulator folder, but when i go to RomManager and press generate app list, nothing changes. Im so lost.

Do you see a 'Collections' tab? If not, then the generate app list didn't finish before you exited SRM. The second point here has more info: wagnerstechtalk.com/sd-emudeck/#Common_Issues . Also, if you do see a 'Collections' tab, go into Emulation Station, should see your games there also.

So I have my own organization I do for my ROMs, which makes it where I had to manually set the folder for each emulator myself. Setting a global folder of ROMs containing sub-folders for each system did not work, which was frustrating until I figured that out.

Steam rom manager can’t see my GameCube roms unless they are in the /roms/GameCube folder but emulationstation can’t see them unless they are in /roms/gc. What can I do?

Must be something new, you can create a symbolic link from one folder to another (basically, it's an alias that can be used that makes the contents of one folder appear in another). You'll have to search for that, don't have any info. on my site for creating SL's, at present. Another option is just to use one of the two folders and play gamecube from the one you choose.

@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks for the reply! This actually happened to me back with emudeck version 1 as well. I'm back in this boat because I forgot my sudo password and had to reset my deck. Interestingly, the gamecube parser for steam rom manager was pointing at the /roms/gamecube folder. You can actually set this to whatever you want, like /roms/gc, but only from the older Deck theme (not the nice new Steam Deck theme). All that to say, I figured it out, and if anyone else is having issues, you can fix it by changing the rom directory in SRM, but ONLY from the older layout. Might be worth a guide on your site, since it seems to be an obscure but very frustrating issue.

To run various systems, there are a number of different emulators to support those systems. For example, RetroArch handles most systems up to PS1 (Atari 2600, NES, SNES, etc.). Emulators for each of those systems within RetroArch are called "Cores", they are synonymous. Then you have Dolphin for Wii/Wii U, Duckstation (for PS1/2/3), Yuzu for Switch, etc. If you want to know more, this section in the guide has more links: wagnerstechtalk.com/sd-emudeck/#Emulator_Details_and_Docs . It can be confusing if you're new to emulation, but it gets easier. I personally leave all emulators available so whenever I want to run a particular game on any system, the emulator to support it is available. But, that's just my preference.

FOR ALL NEW STEAM DECK OWNERS…. Like myself One massive piece of advice I have which I feel 95% of all these videos on emulators have not mentioned is … Forget wireless keyboard, or USB C external hard drives (if you do not have them already) or all these complicated ways especially if like me you are not a PC joc with all the jargon etc… The easiest (and completely free) way to transfer files between a windows pc and Linux SD card inside your Steam deck Is: 1. Steam Link (for virtual viewing the deck on your pc) 2. Sync everything GTK (a web browser software that transfers files between both systems piss easy) p.s This vid outside of the advice I have given has been mad informative and helpful, subscribe as they put a hell of a lot of work in to this !

It's just an informational message, you can ignore it. Steam Rom Manager now closes Steam (if it's running) automatically anyway, in the past it did not and that's why the message can still be seen.

emudeck doesnt save to my steam deck desktop. It boots up and opens emudeck but it doesnt keep a EmuDeck icon after the initial install. The InstallEMUdeck is the only thing that stays behind and emudeck isnt in my applications folder. What gives? I gave it the permissions it needed too.

I just can't get steam roms manager to work. It constantly says I have invalid configuration and keyboard doesn't work so can't change anything. Isn't there a best setting or auto setting. I don't understand what I am supposed to put in every stupid variable field

You shouldn't need to change anything within the fields for each of the parsers, just toggle the switches on/off, depending on your preference. If something is hosed up there, you can try uninstalling/reinstalling EmuDeck and see if that clears things up.

In Emulation Station, you can use the scraper (Start button -> Scraper) and scrape the artwork and metadata for an emulator. There area number of options available to you there to customize what gets scrapped (downloaded).

Great video. All the steps were clear and precise and easy to understand. What isn't easy is trying to get a 3DS rom to work. I own Fire Emblem Awakening, but want the rom to play in Citrus on the Steam Deck with a big screen. I was able to locate the rom and downloaded it, but it's a 1gb CIA file. Citrus won't install and run a CIA file. Says I have to extract it. Well, I search the web and they say you need a ctrtool to extract. I download the tool but it won't run. Another says I have to follow this other program to decrypt it, extract it, edit it, then rebuild it. It's like trying to split an atom! It's too complicated and long for just one rom. DS roms are not this complicated as 3DS roms. They're in iso format and you just download them!

*UPDATE* I was able to locate a CIA 3DS Decryptor thx to KZbinr Zach Darvin and it decrypts the CIA file into a CCI file that Citrus is able to recognize. No decrypting, editing, and rebuilding of the CIA file as others have pointed out! I enjoyed the part of your video about downloading the images for the games. Very helpful!

In early versions of EmuDeck v1.0, you would manually need to exit Steam before launching Steam Rom Manager. Then, SRM was updated and automatically would close Steam if it was running. This is just a warning incase someone manually re-started Steam that it should remain closed.

When you run Steam Rom Manager, you can check/uncheck any parsers you want SRM to use to identify games that will appear in the Collections tab. Under the Collections tab, if you go into the Emulators you'll find Emulation Station. Launching that, all your games should show up under each system regardless of how SRM was setup.

Thanks for this upload!! I've tried installing Emudeck multiple times, and I'm assuming SNES games should work by default with a fresh install, without BIOS updates. My emulators and games keep showing up multiple times in the steam library. I tried turning all the parsers off to try start again, but everything is still showing in steam. It's like the rommanager isn't updating the information on steam. Any idea of a fix?

I can not get this to work on my steam deck no matter what I try... it always crashes on launch from the steam deck UI.. I tired manually installing pcsx2 and then emudeck, and they both give me the same results.. what am I doing wrong? Could it be the bios? Maybe I'll try a different one

A couple things you can try: 1) Under 'Tools & Stuff', run the Check BIOS option and see if there are any bios files missing. If so, copy them to the bios subfolder and try again. While I've not seen/heard of this specific issue a reinstall has helped with similar type issues.

@WagnersTechTalk I'll give this a try I only added the u.s ps2 bios 39001.bin since I don't plan on using Japanese games. Also when I set up steam rom manager I don't get the auto parsers like a lot of other KZbin guides get... I have to make them myself.. factory rest this thing completely, and it still doesn't work correctly... I'll give it another shot tho

What if you have a sd card you was using for your hacked vita with all the emulators and roms….will I still have to format a new card and start over or I can just pop that bad boy in and play ?

In this case, you'd install EmuDeck (recommend using a microSD card), then copy the roms from the VITA microSD card to the one used by EmuDeck (either via a USB adapter or across the network). The roms will need to go into the respective folders created by EmuDeck to work.

May be a dumb question but are there any problems using emudeck without and internet connection, once everything is setup and installed?

Good question, the internet access is only needed during the initial setup (download/install, Steam Rom Manager and scraping any artwork in Emulation Station). Once all of that is done, internet access is not needed unless you enable retro achievements.

EmuDeck only runs on SteamOS or on the Win600 using HoloISO (both Linux). It won't currently run on Windows.

For some reason after updating to v2.0 I can't open EmulationStation - it immediately closes. It worked 100% fine until the update. I uninstalled EmuDeck and reinstalled it but no luck. Has anybody else had this issue or does anyone know how to fix it?

You can, but if you don't want them to appear in the Steam UI you can also just copy the roms and use Emulation Station instead (under Emulators). All games you've added will always appear there. Totally up to your preferences.

6:40 Another idea for copying BIOS & ROMs over to the Deck could also be to utilize SyncThing. So if you only have a computer you can install the client on both (put them both into Autostart) and share the EmuDeck folder from the Deck to the PC. Just make sure they are both in the same network. After that any change you do on your Computer within that synced folder will automatically transfer over to the SteamDeck (as long as it's in desktop mode). So if you want to put new games on it, copy the games into the folder on your PC, pop the Steam Deck it into desktop mode, wait a bit. After that the new files are on your Deck 😄 Some NAS systems also support Syncthing so that might also be worth checking out if yours does.

This is the first it's been mentioned to me, from what I can remember. Make sure you're not out of storage space wherever you installed EmuDeck. If you're good there, you can try uninstalling then re-installing EmuDeck, then re-running SRM/Generate app list.

Can anyone answer a quick Q? When adding a BIOs can I dumb the bios into the folder, or do I need to make a new folder for the respected system? I only see a few sub folders in the BIOs folder. So that's why I ask

Something that might be very useful to those out there is just using Linux's built in FTP to transfer roms and bios directly through your Windows PC. This video shows how to set it up and map it as a network drive to your file explorer kzbin.info/www/bejne/apKucmOFo9R_Z6s . Large games might take a bit, but it's super easy to setup and it's drag and drop directly from your PC and doesn't require flash drives and adapters.

For some reason Emulation Station is always stuck on an infinite booting screen and the same goes for the individual emulators themselves. I dunno if it's something I've done incorrectly or if it's because the amount of ROM's I have installed but in case you're wondering how many ROM's I've installed: I've installed one Wii U ROM, two SNES ROM's, five DS ROM's, two N64 ROM's, three NES ROM's, three GameCube ROM's, and ten GBA ROM's. I only set up everything just the other day after watching/following your older tutorial you uploaded months back.

I don't think it's something you did wrong. I have a bunch of MAME roms installed and it works fine. You can try uninstalling/reinstalling EmuDeck. Your bios/roms will remain intact. See if that helps, if you haven't tried it already. Let me know how it goes please.

@@williammitchell7168 I'm still not 100% sure but I'll tell you what I did fo fix it. Basically what I had done was update and reinstall EmuDeck which took me like 20+ minutes to reinstall and update EmuDeck because my internet was slow at the time but the reason why I reinstalled it is because when I searched for Emulation Station in desktop mode on my steamdeck there were no results and it appeared only a very few of the emulators installed but not all of them, and so I thought maybe my installation was corrupted and so I reinstalled and updated my EmuDeck. After I successfully reinstalled and updated my whole EmuDeck installation it appears to be working normally now, however I did one other thing to make sure things were working as intended and that was me again searching for Emulation Station and thankfully it finally appeared in my search and in the search results it showed up as an appimage file and in case you were wondering, yes that's the file you need to look for and it'll be located in some folder which I believe I also found in the search results. Be sure to try and open that appimage file in desktop mode because if that successfully opens than it'll definitely open in game mode on your steamdeck. If you still need assistance after reading everything I've said to you, I'll continue to try and help you as much as I can and if you'd like, we can message each other on Discord and I can have a better time helping you through there since you can send screenshots to me through Discord and I just think I'd have a better time giving you help there. That is if you'll still require assistance after reading all this.

For Windows, you'll likely want a dedicated microSD install instead. You will need a Windows license and a U3/A2 microSD card is recommended.

It would be a welcomed option. However, if using EmulationStation, you can copy your game and restart ES and they'll show up. Then re-run the scrapper, if you want. They won't show up in the Steam Menu though.

If you only want few games to show up, I recommend adding them manually and not use the software, the software will make a list of all games you have in your folder which is awesome but annoying at the same time since there is no easy way of deleting the games you don't want from the list, for example I have more than 200 games on my arcade collection but only wanted 10 to show up on my steam gaming mode tab, so I had 2 choices since I am not a tech savvy, cut all files that I don't wanted and temporarily put them in other folder then run the software so it would only detect 10 games I wanted, or add them manually which is very simple once you know the command lines, just a bit of extra leg work since you also have to add the art work manually but if its only few games is not a big deal.

I see the first step is to format the sd card. If im using an sd card for windows would it be possible to skip that step and have my roms go to the sd card with windows on it without it messing up anything? I dont have my steam deck yet but i just ordered it so I don't know how all that works
