WAGTAIL TRICKS OF THE TRADE/DOMINATING THE ROUTE

Even at 6'7" Chuck needs his wagtail almost every time he's out there with the crew.
WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FASTER?...using an 18" channel instead of a 12".......except I don't buy buy buy every different convenience, unless it saves a lot of time, and is transferrable.
SPECIAL TOOLS USED:
1. Wagtail with 12" Ettore channel (drilled and screwed into it)
2. 26" Sorbo Squeegee for route work
3. THE POLE---Unger double sided 6'? pole from the hardware store.
THE WISDOM OF THIS VIDEO: please remember, I don't use tools that cannot be transferred to my people. As mentioned above, I could do this particular job easier with an 18" wagtail (handle only, wagtail rubber is not as good as Ettore), but sense none of my workers are skilled in the wag, I have them use the 12" to get the window low enough for them to finish with a regular squeegee.
REMEMBER: Try to get your people to do things 80% as fast as you and you will do good.

Good tips and I agree. There's a reason Ettore and Unger are top of the heap. History and consistency. I like the wagtail but it's just another tool. Still haven't found any squeegee that is the "one squeegee" lots of styles have their place and when in doubt standard sizes and rubbers are best.

thanks for the comment yes I don't make it too difficult I just use Ettore channels and Ettore rubber and then get better and better at them, the only fancy thing I use is a wag tail but I screw and Ettore channel into it cuz I don't trust any other rubber

I had 3 Wagtails, 2 broke and 1 was lost or stolen. Never got the hang of them. Moerman has a beefy flipper pad on a Liquidator 2.0 Channel hooked up to a Excelerator swivel handle that saves time on the top end and you can fan out on the bottom half using another squeegee or taking that one off the pole leaving minimum to no detailing after...My opinion of course.

I have an ettore 12in channel and rubber on my wag tail, I purchased one of those Mormon Liquidators and could not get it to stop streaking, it is so freaking high maintenance, every squeegee I use has to be duplicated into all of my employees ettore is just the lowest maintenance and best rubber I can find

Ettore rubber works great in the liquidator 2.0 channel.. as long as you cut them exactly right. I use the Moerman rubber as a template to get it right. That zero detail is really worth the effort of learning the new tool. Really saves A LOT of time in the long run. In my experience at least.

just trying to help. why don't you use a flipper pad much faster and bringing that double sided pole inside would not be too good. clearing the sides then fanning the middle is a much more efficient technique. just my opinion.

1. Interior route work is delegated to my sub-contractors. 2. those wagtail flapper pads are shit for pace and large windows. 3. if you did not notice, I cleared enough side before I pulled out the sorb...plus the assistant ahead of me was instructed not to saturated the sides. 3. Like a doctor or a dentist, you make WAY more money per hour if you have an assistant doing the easy stuff. 4. I was only doing this route for training purposes because my lead guy is only 5'7" and I don't rely on him being versed in advanced skills, so I train only in the basics of the wag (ie bringing down the window with wag so you can clean it).....thanks for the input....much appreciated, I respect your work!!!

C & C Window Cleaning LLC. to every man his own. the original pad is crap. that's why we mod our own. 1. I would work from either right to left or left to right you lose time going back and forth as you did in this video. 2. bringing the mop up each time is also losing time. mod a flipper pad and this would be faster. 3. I don't think you understood what I meant by clearing the side. I just uploaded a extensive video explaining this technique. 4. finding a good rhythm will also be a huge time saver. example some windows you mop the squeegee...others you mop several then go back to squeegee several. keep it consistent. 5. learning how to wagtail around obstacles will also help there is no need to stand on a rock to clean that window. just my 2 cents. and it looks like your using a 12 inch. a 14 is a great medium for route work. again not knocking your technique or style just my full opinion. keep up what you're doing . take care .

And when I mod a pad it's a regular strip washer pad. Retains plenty of water and cleans great. And clearing the sides to clarify is a technique that will reduce detailing. I don't have to detail my pOle work with this technique . I understand leaving different jobs to other people but training them to us the wagtail or a pivoting tool in a different manner with a consistent pace and a effective work flow will create a faster employee and generally make more money for you as well. Any who again just my opinion. Ive used a wagtail for a long time and thought I'd try to help you out. It's not a knock. Everybody has their own way. Take care

And your right, kind of like I was saying, the way you and I would figure out speed is different than an employee who has to be told every little detail....so, if we can get them to go at 80% of our speed then we have done good. but then, we have to teach them techniques we don't use ourselves...... it never ends, but thats why my videos are either very detailed....or just a visual to put in front of my more experienced people to give them a challenge.......also there was no foot space on the ground around that rock.......lol, but it made for a good thumbnail.

GOOGLE starfiber kitchen pads, I think they have them at home depot, if you want more water up on your wagtail, these actually fit perfectly with an 18" but you have to put them on top so you can reach the bottom sill, thanks

any type of construction debris needs to be done with both hands on the window the only way to, that way you can take pictures of any pre-existing scratches, however you could also put three zero steel wool heavily soaked in soapy water have someone on the interior of the glass pointing you two different spots and you could scrub them off like that just make sure the steel wool is wet, I would just rather be cleaning 300 maintainable pieces of glass per day and have an easier life

Not only construction windows but all windows should be carefully checked for any , scratches, paint spray, stucco or mortar damage in the daylight. Otherwise you will be responsible and liable for somebody s damage. If not visible, just writ a simple contract that you will not hold responsible for any damage etc.

Greg Pifer you shoul be very careful abt how you keep and store yr squeege. Any microscopic dent or damage on rubber blades will cause streak on the glass.

@@TheJandufandu for commercial routes I usually just use a very small bit of Dawn dish soap having mostly water helps keep down the streaks and the dawn helps it glide just a little bit

I tried pretty much all of the products the Mormon rubber is horrible, the wag tail Rubber and channels are pretty bad as well. The best rubber that there is Ettore and Sorbo, but between the two of those, Ettore lasts the longest because it is hard and works even when worn down a little, saving time and money. I'll come out with a video soon on the different types of squeegees but really picking something for your company that is consistent, reputable and of high quality will save you hours and hours of unnecessary downtime and streaks.

Im struggling to understand sorry i only mean to be constructive but fanning windows with poles and im personaly guilty... its not really that efficient, i guess straight pulls are out of fashion even on bigger taller windows... tap and pull just a little tapy tapy =) cheers for sharing your company's ways i truley appreciate the chance to watch and time it takes to do it

We straight pull most of these but I'm 6 7 and reach about 9 feet and these are actually very tall windows, also I don't like pulling from the top down on these because most of the ones I was doing were the corporate conference rooms and when the Sun hits there in the morning and you wagtail cut the top there's no way that there's anything on this window but straight-pull is still a very good idea most of the time

noeliu I like this technique if I ever have to do the route myself, it cuts the top part of the window and then I could take my other squeegee and do the bottom part these pieces of glass are much bigger than they look like I'm 6 7 and reach about 9 feet and they're still out of my reach,

Bless your heart ! You are complicating this way too much. Get back to basics and do standard pull downs for high and just fan the low part. Your time is probably 50% longer doing it with wagtail and flipping the pole over - My goodness. And if any of my guys used the fence to get down I would have had a fit ( Not safe and very unprofessional ) Keep refining - Keep it simple - watch every move for efficiency and you truly can dominate the route. Oh ---- also-----you are right handed so move left to right. Its more fluid for right hand dominate window cleaning.

Jeff Tatman you know on this one I'm actually using a 26-inch Sorbo these windows are deceptively High and much higher than it seems in the video that's why I at six seven a. using a pole, most route work you can blast through with a pole and use pull-downs but it tends to bleed at the top a little sometimes if you're moving too fast ......this account is way too important for any risks and I'm actually moving pretty fast.... check out my other videos thanks for commenting

I use an Unger straight, and semi-straight to fan windows with a pole and can get the entire window down on 90% of the commercial contracts we have. Your technique is questionable and time consuming. Have you been in business long, or are you just starting out? I've watched a few of your videos, and, I'm not sure, I would hire you. You seem a little over bearing in your training of new employees and speak to them in a condescending nature. I also don't like where you choose to step on a client's property. Too many more moves like that and that little fence is coming down! You're gonna be hurt or worse, one of your employee's, and your client is gonna be pissed! I worked for someone similar to you when, I first started window cleaning, and his employee turnover is incredible! Learn some humility and professionalism. I almost hate to ask, but perhaps it would explain a lot to me.... You aren't of a certain door knocking, don't believe in holidays religion by chance?...
