Could someone tell me I’ve just bought a bike that came with speedplay ultra light action pedals.Are the cleats on the newer wahoo versions compatible with these as I can’t find the original cleats for this pedal.Thanks in advance

I/m just a casual rider for the exercise, but the new pedals look the same as the speedplays I've been using for 22 years. Except mine did not come as walkable but the made little covers that slip over them to walk in. What am I missing here??

If you are using shoes with 4 bolt speedplay specific carbon soles then you need to use a thin metallic baseplate. They should have included it.

I know what you mean with the older pedals...Wahoo don't include these nor do they mention it in the fitting guide. I believe they have canned them!

You forgot that the cleat adjustment screws have now returned to an allen key instead of a screw, also.

Great review-I 've been riding speedplay zero pedals for the last twenty years, so it's great to see that Wahoo have fixed the dreaded durability issues with the plastic pedal body ... Any idea when the 65mm axle versions will become available..?

Support told me later this summer for custom axles only in SS and only able to be purchased thru an authorized speedplay dealer.

That's incredible. I've spent a little over a decade using them. I always thought of them as one of the most frustrating cycling companies to follow (before the Wahoo acquisition). All those years built on a clever design and they never bothered making any improvements on it. Not even the slightest R&D. They spent more money suing their customers..

i've seen new wahoo pedals always use 53mm axle. Do they offer 50mm axle option as old titanium pedals offered ?

No yet Luis, but they are looking to make some official new axel options in the near future. Hope that helps

Great Review 👍 - the Nano's state rider weight limit of 82kg , if a rider weighs that or is close to it would you still recommend it ?

Thanks Roman, I know companies are usually overcautious on their rider weights so if your close i'd 100% say it's ok. Couldn't say I'd recommend if your over tho!

Yeah just checked up on this... mine have been running spot on for months now (and i'm not the lightest rider either). Looks like a bad batch but seems Wahoo are replacing them without any problems. Have you got a set/problem?

Hi Emileo, They sure are! So no need to change the cleats on your shoes if you want the new pedals (unless you want to leave the yellow plastic behind)!

@@wiggle Hi, I had emailed Wahoo support on this question as well and they gave me a different answer this morning! According to Wahoo the new cleats are NOT compatible with the old (aka legacy) Ultra Light Action pedals! Only the legacy Zero pedals will be compatible.

@@wiggle But wouldn't that indicate in fact an incompatibility with the legacy Ultra Light Action pedals? Zero and Ultra Light Action had different pedal bodies and the cleats were not swappable between those pedals as far as I recall. BTW: Ultra Light Action cleats were never yellow, but grey.

Good to see they fixed their inferior design that they had for years. Before they used way too much cheap plastic for a premium-priced product. Still needs to be seen if this design isn't prone to creaking...

Exactly that, the finish on the old pedals was rubbish and these look and feel legit! Will test them out from today and see if the dreaded Speedplay creak makes an appearance!

Nothing in the design looks like a significant improvement except for “supposedly maintenance free internal bearings” and a full metal ring around the pedal body circumference. Problem is the old metal Bow Ties regularly wore out, which caused most of the pedal rocking problems. That’s why Speedplay sold loads of replacement metal Bow Ties. Nothing in this new design looks like it will magically make the pedal body circumference area last significantly longer than the old Speedplay design given how quickly the old metal Bow Ties wore out. I’ll let others be the $230 Beta testers for the Zero SS model. If they actually prove to be durable I’ll buy some. But I’m guessing we’ll find out that after a year of regular use they’ll be rocking all over the cleat just like the old Speedplays when their bodies & Bow Ties wore out. 😆

They like to being spotless of mud, I stepped in a mud puddle on the road while on a road ride and then my foot couldn’t release, I fell over at a stoplight and had to take the shoe off 😂

@@markroe4952 So you want to combine the new pedal with the old ULA cleat, right? If you buy a pair pedals, a set of cleats will be included. So why not just change the cleats? So at least one pair of shoes is good to go. Compatibility between the old ULA pedal and the new cleats seems to be tricky. So I guess it might be tricky vice versa as well.

Hi Frank, a well greased pedal shouldn't easily spin. When they do it's time to service them. As for the "sell" I'm absolutly under no obligation to say anything good or bad about them... maybe "an honest first look" would be a better title 😁
