Have you thought of a roof top tent. The ikamper skycamper is the way to go and a fridge. Dometic makes a great product the fridge and roof top tent are a game changer.

I have, they look so fun and easy to set up the tent but the three things that keep me from getting one 1. cost (the primary culprit) 2. car has to be leveled every time I get somewhere 3. packing/unpacking every time I want to leave camp and come back

Those are webworms! We have a similar species on the east coast as well, I see them all the time (they're harmless)

Not really. They are highly invasive and migrate fast. They eat all foliage off of trees and shrubs. If not caught early enough, it can kill the plant.

good question! We have two soft coolers. One is from RTIC (black and blue one) that's very thick and keeps ice colder for longer. Another one is from REI (tan/gold) that's foldable to use as an emergency or extra cooler. Also the way I store things matter too, for example I like to keep meats UNDER the ice, foods with thicker packaging on top of the ice, and delicate herbs a the very top. Heat rises while cold air drops, so using that as a guide on where to place everything helps!

Are the camp sites that you and weylie stay at first come first served? Or reserved in advance? And do they differ from national parks vs non-national parks?

all the ones on this video are first come first serve, there's always a chance it might be full so I like to keep BLM (bureau of land management, otherwise public land) sites as a backup plan. National park ones usually don't let dogs on trails, so its quite inconvenient if you bring your pups. But for the most part they are similar

The bug you find in the tree looks like pine processionary caterpillar, i am not sure if you have them in the USA but it looked very similar to the ones we have in Spain. Be careful, they are very dangerous for dogs!

15:58 when I used to live up north we called those gyspy moths - even though they are caterpillars, they become moths so they were always just called gypsy moths. I now realize how offensive that is now that I am older but everyone called them that. The idea is that a million just show up out of nowhere and completely defoliate the surround area. I looked it up and "In July 2021 the Entomological Society of America decided to remove the name "gypsy moth" from its Common Names of Insects and Related Organisms List as "hurtful to the Romani people". In January 2022, the new common name "spongy moth" was proposed, as a translation from the French name "spongieuse" for the species, referring to the sponge-like egg masses laid.
