One thing I noticed is that the people I see with waist length hair have medium to thick density hair. I have yet to see a fine haired natural have waist length hair. Everything breaks my fine hair off. even when I am super gentle. I don’t any room for error like those with thicker hair do

On day 5 of the mini twists, I would unravel my hair to wear as a twist out -theres no buildup since washing weekly, minimal heavy products, and oiling scalp 1-2 days in twists. @@Laura-sg6ss Yes- I was so surprised! I’ve been trying to retain length with wash-and-gos for months. Mini twists honestly weren’t my thing.. so I never tried it until I watched her length retention video. I instantly noticed my edges are fuller/darker and my hair grew approx 1inch after wash day. I herbal treatment oiled my scalp 1-2 days while in the mini twists and used hair virgin fertilizer sporadically. I also used her diy flaxseed gel recipe to lay edges and frizz throughout the week🤍

The truth is for most of us 4c-z ladies this will be a 3 to 4 year journey and maybe more. Our hair grows, but a big chop, to healthy, to waist length, doesn’t happen in a year. Heathy hair will grow. It takes time for us. Don’t give up hope. Stay consistent if this is your desire to have “ lady Godiva” length hair. Your determination will be your own reward. Peace ❤

Very well said. I must share for anyone who can use it. When I transitioned to natural, I never did a big chop. My hair has always been past the shoulders. On wash day, I continued to do roller sets, just like with perm. I clipped my ends gradually, maybe every 2 months. Hair is completely natural now and growing very nicely. I stay away from direct heat. Occasionally I will use a hooded dryer. I am 4 years natural and enjoying learning how to handle my natural hair from my you tube sisters. I won't say it has been an easy journey but it is very rewarding. I will never go back to the creamy crack! Have a great day.

@@cathyfreeman8608 Thank you! I appreciate your compliment. I am so happy to hear of your journey and how your transition has worked so well for you. I am natural, now, but I won’t lie when I say I loved creamy crack. The only difference is I would always wear a short Jada/Halle Berry length cut. I loved my short permed hair. I love my natural hair, but It’s so much work for me. So I do braids. I just love it when my sisters are wearing their hair natural and long❤️ Peace

Nobody grows waist length hair from scratch in a year. Hair grows about 6 inches per year, give or take, no matter the texture. So yeah 3-4 years is a normal time frame. Factor in setbacks, and it might take a little longer though.

Im close to waist length and I find that using heat to stretch my hair and washing once a month (I have low sebum production) has helped me retain length in a way that is more visible to me now. and it’s easier to see where I need to trim. Before I would try to do wash and gos and braid outs and I didn’t feel my hair thriving like it is now. I think stretching my hair with heat made a huge difference but now I know how to recover my hair with treatments and take breaks in between so i don’t overwhelm my strands. @yourfavbecca yes. I use the revlon paddle brush dryer. But I recently bought the new Revair and I love it! Way less damaging to the ends and very little heat. You can even stretch the hair without heat. It’s a great investment if you can purchase it. If not then the revlon brush is good too but I wouldn’t use it as often and take breaks in between to avoid damage.

Forgetting about length and enjoying your hair at it’s current stage is the best thing you can do for your hair. Especially if you want length retention. Plus some of us have more shrinkage than others (Before anyone starts telling how ‘real’ it is, I LOVE my shrinkage as much as every other healthy part of my body. We good over here👌🏾). My tailbone length hair shrinks to just below my shoulders. Seeing my length isn’t really a priority for me because I know how much manipulation will have to take place for me to see it. I’d rather enjoy my volume over my length. So styles that showcase my volume always works best for me. And of course headwraps. Those will always be a staple 😉

Ms. Dials, I’m the same way! I’m looking for density rather than length. Length will come in due time. I’ve always been a short cut lady, up until 2018. I’ve started growing out my hair and it comes to a little above my shoulders now. I can wait and enjoy my hair in ALL levels. But I must say that the longer my hair gets, the easier it is to do! Also, I’m able to say I’m FINALLY absolutely loving my hair now, after many years of hating it because of how other black people view it. I just wished over favorite KZbinrs would tell us the time all of this work took and keep saying it. I have been natural for ten years and I’m at mid back. It’s possible for all of us even with the simplest routines. But there are girls struggling to grow their hair and they think something is wrong but it’s really just TIME. Yea length retention and all that stuff but time is a huge factor. No one did this overnight and we have ALL had setbacks. I think if these types of videos were followed by the setbacks and how stressful it all was there would be less issues in our natural hair community. Anyways. I love green beauty. I have followed her for many years but she makes it look to easy, “just scoop and spread”, which made me feel like something was wrong with me in the beginning of my journey as I have never seen a drop of sebum, lol Green beauty is a scientist in my opinion so the respect is there. Congrats on reaching your hair goal! I would love it if you could address scalp issues such as smelly scalp. I have to wash my hair every 7-10 days or so because by Day 4-5 after my wash my scalp develops an embarasing sour smell (that I know other near me can get a whiff of), without necessarily having any major build up. Washing once a month right now is a dream for me. I am mid-length stage. I have tried everything from Witch Hazel, to masking with essential oils, salicylic acid shampoo occasionally. My scalp just wants that water and shampoo.

Washing your hair weekly is a good thing! You’re cleansing your scalp and conditioning your strands on a regular basis, just like we have to cleanse and lotion our bodies. Scalp is still skin and maybe you sweat more than some. You could also see a doctor/dermatologist, it could be an underlying health issue that no one o the internet can diagnose or treat for you. There is a black dermatologist directory that could help you find someone

in want length, but my twa stage was my favorite. Shiny hair. Easy to maintain. Constant compliments. And I just looked cute. I think about going back, BUT, I havent reached my goal. I had a set back, lost some length due to illness, but I want my long twists, so.

I am in my mid fifties and with super fine high porosity hair. I have gone natural since 2016 and remain in shoulder length since for close to 5 years. What do I do to move to the next level? I have watched several videos but see that your video is very practical and educative

I just want to see how long my hair can get as a sign of how well I’ve taken care of it. I think I focused on waist length because it seems like the summit to a mountain I’m trying to climb.

Very nice. Quality over quantity is best, short, thick and healthy is better than long, thin and not so healthy. I still think genetics play a huge part. Some ppl will never have waist length hair no matter what they do. ThanQ for sharing.

You have a new subscriber here. I always wonder why I had single stand knots and my hair breaking off. I wasn’t stretching or doing any hot oil treatment. And… on my vacations I would get my hair done but somehow I feel like that hot water she would dip my hair in was the real reason why my hair was breaking off; because she would dip my natural hair in it. No wonder my ends were so stringy. No more…

Can the natural weathering of the hair be prevented ? Even if you retain length, the ends go into a pointy tip, how come it doesn’t stay thick from ends to root? (I know the ends are the oldest part of the hair, but is there any routine that can keep them as thick as the roots??)

So right now, I’ve taken out my twists and now wearing my hair in a high bun. Since I have breakage in my crown, that I’m trying to grow out, I’m wondering if I’m on the right track by wearing my hair in a high bun, or should I try wearing low bun styles instead. I’m also, moisturizing my crown section twice a day, and trimming this section more frequently and making sure the style is loose. My thoughts were, since I’m in a desert climate and the sun hits the crown area 1st, wearing my hair in a high bun will reduce any direct sunlight and dryness my hair would receive, as opposed to wearing it in a low bun. If I wear a low bun then my crown is exposed, unless I wear a hat, but I’m not really a fan of hats. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated! 🙏🏾🤗

I've been watching your channel for probably 10 years. Your hair is now waist length, and mine (broken ends) is still at my shoulder blades hahahahahah I've been growing it since 2009. You really know your hair and are able to crack the code of it. Me not so much. My hair is breaking extremely right now on my right side because I did a lye texture with mizani butter blend 6 months ago. Because I have hard water it has ruined my hair. Since I moved to a poor neighborhood where the water is complete trash, my hair has been ravaged. I didn't catch on to why my hair was being trashed until it was too late. Now I know what was causing my hair to be trashed and I can pick up the pieces from here. I have new natural roots to start off with. I refuse to cut off the breaking hair trim yes but cut no. I'm holding on to every strand with white knuckles, I've worked so hard and waited SOOOOOOOOOOOO long to have hair past the tops of my shoulders. I have discovered the right conditioner and how to strip the gross disgusting mineral buildup on my hair from my tap. So I start from here 2023 AGAIN starting over. Not doing a big chop, just starting fresh.

@@nibabi Thank you. January 2024 I cut it off to 5 inches to start fresh. I use her acidic water spray scritch method and it is the cure for it without having to buy a shower head. I still plan to one day but her acidic water spray works. It's now Novemmber and I'm at about 7 inches. It's all fresh and no breakage.
