they just dropped an album and its a banger, super proggy with the usual death metal mixed in, also a 20 minute music video to the first 'song' of the album ( that consists of 2 songs divided into 3 parts each ), highly recommend

The new Blood Incantation album has been trending on Sputnik at 1st place for like the last 10 days at least, and the ratings average is 4.3/5, which is at least a once-in-a-decade album level. Haven't heard it yet, but based on this previous album it's safe to assume it's really, really good

for the ride/triangle sound you were talking about early in the song - it may have been on the actual cymbal hardware. that's kind of what it sounds like to me because there's almost no organic resonance/echo anything like that from the sound itself it's all added in the production. these guys rock!!! like others have said, you should definitely do a video for their newest album or at least one half of that. so many cool ideas. also have been privileged enough to see these guys 4 or 5 times at this point and they are so unbelievably good live. very, very tight sounding

For the record, "The Giza Power Plant" is most definitely a reference to the ancient aliens-type conspiracy theory that the great pyramid of Giza is an alien power plant.

Yeah, I think you’re correct. This isn’t especially brutal in my book. But they’re a popular band = popular vote. I kinda doubt this would have landed well with you back in 2019, however.

There are certain bands in the heavy music world that are constantly pushing for more "brutality" - think Cattle Decapitation, Infant Annihilator, etc., bands whose core sound is notably more intense, more violent than their peers and they have made that a part of their identity. Blood Incantation is firmly outside of that group. They are more focused on emulsifying death metal with a variety of interesting influences, which is more immediately noticeable on their most recent release, Absolute Elsewhere. A lot of ppl outside the scene just hear any death metal and put it all at an 11 on the "brutality" scale, but that isn't really how it works.

I'm not a Death Metal expert but there are a few things that stand out for me on the growls: 1. There's a ton of reverb on it. This is obviously a production choice but it definitely makes them sound different. 2. I don't hear a lot of pressure in these growls, i.e. the force of air being pushed out of the mouth. They sound more like whispers, especially if you compare it to some Cannibal Corpse records. 3. These 2 things make them blend in more with the instruments. They don't appear to work against the instruments or try to get on top of them.
@MaaZeus
@MaaZeus 3 ай бұрын
And I love these kinds of harsh vocals. It makes them sound more organic and other wordly, rather than someone just shouting their lungs out. Grave Miasma singer has a similar style and they also love their reverb in all instruments.

A fact that should be mentioned is why that the bass has this tone and "protagonism" is "hidden" in the song name. Giza is how "Geezer" is pronounced and who is Black Sabbath's bassist? Yeah, Geezer Butler.

Think coming to the title makes some clarity to the lyrics - Giza is the pyramid, the tomb of a pharaoh, opening the dead to the afterlife, and power plant - connecting with the vast forces of the cosmic beyond, unknown, etc. Can't it also fit with the cadence of the song, as going through death to a weird afterlife, where things are, somewhat make sense in a scattered and unexpected way only to reunite in the end? My 2 cents.

Blood incantation are a proggy bunch, so brutality depends on where your yardstick is located. It's brutal compared to pop or classic heavy metal. It's not particularly brutal compared to brutal death metal/various -grind subgrenes or slam. Always a great choice for analysis though.
@Tintop
@Tintop 3 ай бұрын
Blood incantation always tried to find their own sound in the realm of death-core/-metal. The members have a very broad musical taste (stuff like Magma, pink floyd for example) and try to interweave it. Their new 2024 album "Absolute Elsewhere" is I think when they found "their" sound, I love what they're doing there. This album is a contestant for my album of the year. They even collab with Tangerine Dream on it. On a side note: they record their albums on tape. Thus they don't sound clinically clean and 100% tight like other bands with a high end production.

They aren't wholely unique, a lot of their sound comes from bands like Timeghoul or Fourth Dimension. They are unique in the modern old school death bands that normally pull from the Finnish scene, but Blood Incantation still have their influences.

For brutality, I would expect bands like Devourment, Mortician, and Fluids, and Goregrind and pig-squealing stuff. Music not to my taste, but to each their own. I think Incantation, Suffocation, and Fulci are my limits in Extreme Metal.
