Why do people expect Labrie to sing like his 22 year old self or something? Not many people could sing those songs when he did and nobody still can!!! I've still to hear anyone of any age get near to replicating him. They've consciously thought about his older age and ability here, and that's good! Yes we'd all love him to be doing massive high F's and he could do it in a studio, but then people will moan about him live. This is a great song.

This x1000 I get it, his voice is not everyone's cup of tea, but the more I listened to them the more you learn and realize that what he did back then was amazing...and what he does today is STILL great considering his age and all he went through (most people would not sing again after his accident). No one can tell me they can find a singer like him, like him or not, he is UNIQUE and you can put any other singer in there and the band will not sound the same. It will feel just as weird when Portnoy was not in the band...heck, it applies to any them if I am being honest.

Under every single fcking thing DT has ever uploaded, there's a guy going "Labrie sounds great here!". It's like a religious mantra. There's aggressive pitch correction his vocals, so it sounds okay. It doesn't sound "great". If you think it does, play this song to someone who isn't a DT fand and ask what they think of the singer. Get a grip.
@Neo-Midgar2 ай бұрын
@@ancho-31337 There is a massive difference between pushing yourself in-stufio & getting a good sound versus sounding good in a multiple hour live setting. Absolutely has sounded like ass live for a while, but that doesn't mean that in a controlled studio environment he can't let it rip for a take or two. It often happens with aging Metal vocalists, they still can sound like they used to in short bursts, which works in the studio, they just can't sustain it for a show or a while on tour. James Hetfield is another example. Just because he sounds good doesn't necessarily mean it's fake, but it also doesn't mean he'll be able to pull it off like that live.

Darn, I'm so happy to listen to DT again. I've missed this. MP was such a big reason that made DT a band I love so much. Him and JP. I didn't really enjoy any of the Mangini albums. He's a fantastic drummer and I really tried. But something (or rather someone) was missing. Now that he's back, just one song rekindled my love of the band. That was that easy! That reaction was really cool Samus, I'm really glad you're also jamming on this line-up. Portnoy is the one that got me into drumming when I was already a guitarist, and this song just makes me wanna play both. Again, I've missed that so much that it's the second time I'm watching your reaction and the 4th I've listened to this song overall. Dream Theater, Opeth, Wintersun and The Black Dahlia Murder. This back half of the year is a gift. Cheers from France! 🍻 PS: Sorry for the rambling, the alcohol is getting to my brain and I wanna express myself. It gets me so happy because of the long history I have with this band, quite a longer time than the other aforementioned bands. *Edit* I just wanna add that it's not just the drumming, Portnoy brings a lot with it and also the writing and the backing vocals. So glad to hear both his kit and his vocal chords in new music.

Not disrespect of Portnoy, but Mangini is different level man.. Watch it live with steve vai many2 yrs ago, that guy just super sick man.. fckk!!

@@pelagic6well said. And I hope Portnoy never tries to reproduce any of Mangini's compositions. He isn't worthy. I give it this tour and he'll be gone ....again.

@@bcdt1947 I agree. After the tour, he's gone. I'm still going to see them when they come to town...

Mangini style are out of this universe. Mp style are too simple compared to him. Boring to listen if all songs are not complex. I like dt of their complexity and uniqueness. I hope mp can make it like what I wanted. Mm he surpasses my expectations.

Mangini did a very respectable job covering Portnoy's parts. I'm curious what Portnoy will do with Mangini's songs or if they'll play any of that content at all. "The Enemy Within" and "Breaking All Illusions" are two of my favorites.

Boarded a flight with Black Clouds and Silver Linings on the ear and wondered, when there would be a new song. I came home after the flight and KZbin Home presented me with the new video. It is just amazing that they are finally united again.
