A judge under a seat, Taurus gun. A southern woman, we know what wait in the truck means

This is set in the 70s when The Judge wasn't a thing. It's just talking about a regular gun as 'a judge' under a seat.

I hear it all the time; The police are supposed to enforce the law and the courts are supposed protect the innocent. In a perfect world that might work, but we are not living in a perfect world. I worked the streets as a LEO for a few years and did many years with State DOC (retiring 8yrs ago) now that I am not restrained by a badge I see things a tad differently then the black and white right or wrong of the rule of law. What is legal isn't always right and sometimes doing what is right isn't always legal. When the system, when society fails to protect those weakest among us it is left to rough men standing outside the rule of law to do what is necessary to preserve the peace, protect the innocent, and return civility. Some call this "vigilante justice" but for some the vigilante is the only hope to obtain justice.

The ending as she leaves has a meaning. Her pants becoming very flowing....free. As he's going back to his cell, his steps are restricted. It's a 180 from the beginning of the video. He was free...could walk where he wanted but she couldn't since she's a DV victim. They basically switched their lives with each other. The body language and facial expression after he pulls the trigger looks like "Okay. Finally. I couldn't protect mom/sister/niece but I helped her.". It looks like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders. As a DV survivor, he's an angel in my heart.

This one makes you think. We all know abusers who get caught, get arrested, get jailed, get out & the victim gets hurt or worse as soon as that happens. Obviously, murder is not the answer either, but this song has opened the topic for frank discussion. Hardy is a rocker at heart. Before he started performing his stuff, he was writing for other artists, writing the typical 'radio ready' fare. Then he decided to write what HE wanted to write & perform it himself. He tells his story in his song 'The Mockingbird & the Crow', where at first, he is a "Mockingbird, writing typical country music like everyone else & then how he turns into the Crow & says what he wants to say. The music in the first half totally changes for the last half. It's like two songs mashed together. This guy is an amazingly talented guy. Hell of a writer. I love his song 'Give heaven some hell' too.

He traded his life for hers. she was in her own Prison from being abused. at the end when you see her walking away free and him in changes it show the exchange his life for hers. and she also drives away in his truck free just like he drove in a free person in the beginning.

I scrolled through the comments and didn't see this anywhere, It may be apocryphal but my understanding is that this is based on a true story. One of Hardy's roadies is the guy in the song. She did come to visit him in prison, driving his truck. They are married and have 3 beautiful daughters.

To add to the other comments... he was not a bad man, he was not an evil man... perhaps he grew up in a house of abuse.... as he knew what had happened to her without asking... he was a man who saw a need, saw an evil and acted on that need and evil. He was a man of faith (evidenced by the court scene bridge (Oh Lord have mercy on me was not asked to the court system... it was a plea to God) and visibly evidenced by the cross hanging on his rear view mirror... was his action legal, obviously not based on the trial, was it morally just.... that is up to each individual for you cannot legislate morality... but for every victim of DV, he would be an answered prayer... and for every man... the story forces the question... "what would I do?" I recently picked up on another aspect of the acting...you can see the transfer of 'weight' from the weight on her as a DV victim... to him, as the reality of what he did sank in looking at the body on the floor... she has her weight lifted as she no longer has to live that life... and the weight of the decision he made settles onto his shoulders, heart and mind.

He knew what the cost of doing what he did. If he calls the police, yes the guy gets picked up and bonds out and maybe he kills her that time. He went to prison to get her out of the prison of violence and fear that she was in. We dont know what happened in his past, mother, sister who knows but he was going to stop it for her.

Probably only brought pistol "just in case" things went South. Which it did. I am assuming dude was passed out drunk which is why he broke down the door. Could have been just going to draw down on him, if needed, while she got whatever meager belongings she had that she couldn't bring when she escaped. I don't know if true song, or not, but like others wonder if he is an abuse experience-er or possibly even a survivor themselves.
