Love your reaction and I agree 100%. I cried watching this, because I know the pain of a woman in this situation. I told them to get out....Not that easy....This is a true story. This happened to one of Hardy's friends. That's why he wrote this powerful song. The guy served 20 years..got out...she was waiting for him...they married...the guy now goes on tour with Hardy. The video was spot on...a real man like the old days. You are a real man too! No B.S. In my opinion, it was justified homicide. That shows you how screwed up the justice system is. One thing good about it is, that he got rid of a scumbag.

Agreed. I felt a sense of justice for myself, for the beating I took from my 1st husband, every time he came home from the bar. Those whiskey scars run deep, and although the physical wounds may heal the mental and emotional scars never guite do. You just learn to live with the PTSD.

As someone who has been the recipient of rape/abuse that went unnoticed/unreported, THANK YOU!!! Thank you for pointing out the lack of GENTLEMEN in our society.
@sunshynff
@sunshynff Жыл бұрын
For you being someone who has been the recipient of such horrible things, I first and foremost must say how sorry I am, and how much sadness it fills me with that you or anyone should have to experience such things in life, I truly hope you got the proper treatment or at least had/have someone good in your life and were able to work through the emotions caused by such trauma, and get to healthier, happier place. Second... Websters Dictionary gives 3 basic definitions of the word "Gentleman".... 1. a man whose conduct conforms to a high standard of propriety or correct behavior 2. a man of independent means who does not engage in any occupation or profession for gain 3. a man who does not engage in a menial occupation or in manual labor for gain with added notation that in mid century England, "gentleman" was a term for one of three standings of the upper class society, below esquire and above a yeoman. Regardless of any of those definitions, or how we use the word currently, the lack of it's behavior is ABSOLUTELY NOT the cause of violence and sexual assault that happens to women in our society, I would argue that behavior is to blame more than anything else, or at least portraying that type of behavior for good standing amongst your peers and the public. There's a difference between the polite thing to do, which I feel is more gentleman like, and what the right thing to do is, which I feel is just a good human thing to do. I believe this video teaches young women that sometimes in life, you're gonna have to wait in the truck and let a man take care of things, cause you are the lessor of the two genders. I also thinks it sends the message to young men, that if a beautiful girl is in distress on a rainy night, you should throw all logic and reasoning out the window and go take another mans life, based on the words of a woman you met 10minutes ago, cause you might get laid. That might sound like I'm overthinking it, but am I? I'm simply talking about the subtle message it sends. Do you really think if that girl in the middle of the road, was 50-75lbs over what's "considered normal weight", missing a few teeth and had a ID card from her trailer park clipped on her acid washed jeans, that dude would have stopped, and if he did, gone and taken a human life because she said the guy was an abuser??? And if they did make the video that way, you n I would not be in the comments because it never would have been popular. That is also not me saying that women lie all the time and we shouldn't believe them, you can believe them, but do some further fact finding before you do something that gets you 15-life. I also believe we shouldn't look for ways to blame women when violence or harm befalls them...(aka, what were you wearing? Was it that short miniskirt? Why were you in that neighborhood?? Dressing slutty or making a poor decision to go into a bad neighborhood, does not justify the acts that happened to them) Just like those things place the blame on women in a subtle way, so does wait in the truck type songs tell women they just need men for the hard stuff in life, in a subtle way. Just my opinion on it though. Take care hope you have a good weekend.

I think a lot of people speculate that the man in the video had previously seen someone he loved (mother, sister, friend) abused and at the time was unable to stop it, possibly too young, etc. and that's why he went to the extreme he did for a stranger. For me, the fact he just waited for the cops speaks to the depth of feeling in his mind/heart that it was the right thing to do. That he ends up in prison (maybe for the rest of his life) but still feels "it was worth the price" sort of cements it for me. What I really think is a good thing is that this song, and especially the video, has opened a lot of discussion about domestic abuse and how it should be responded to. Good luck with your channel!

This really hits a nerve with me. When I was a young child, I saw my mother being abused by my father and those scars never heal. She was treated horribly by him. She wasn't the only one abused by him. In the end though, he got his comeuppance. He spent his last 25 years fearful of everything, he never left the house because he was paranoid. In his paranoia he imagined that people were coming after him. In my mind he deserved that. I still have nightmares about his treatment (I won't elaborate on that). My mother had two good peaceful years after his death (I wish it could have been much more). I never shed even one tear at my father's funeral. The man in this song is a hero!!

Even if someone “teaches them a lesson” or you take out a restraining order, it just makes the abuse worse. It makes them more angry, trust me. And someone can’t always be there to protect you. I think Hardy’s character knew that. He knew the only way she would “never get hit again” was if he did exactly what he did. I wished for an Angel like him, but I would have felt guilty that he went to prison for me. I was lucky and just found the right time to leave. I know he’s still out there, and I worry. The girl in this story doesn’t have to worry about that because her abuser is exactly where he deserves to be. Great reaction!

I kinda of look at it like this, in a real life scenario, maybe he watched his Mom get the hell beat out of her or even he was beat by his father or stepfather too and it just pushed him over the edge. The police for the most part won't do anything. He's out the same night or not even taken in at all. Then she gets it even worse. Maybe that was his experience. I don't know if Hardy ever experienced this personally, but he said this song came about when he was just talking to friends and what they would do if it was their wife, daughter, ect. This song has been getting a lot of play on my local country station (in Canada). I think when he sings the line "Lord have mercy on me" - it's not a plea to the court but a prayer for having killed someone. I've known too many women who have had violent partners - the fortunate ones survived. This song makes me pump my fist and yell "yeessss"!
@Phoenix_DarkMoon
@Phoenix_DarkMoon Жыл бұрын
This whole song is great. you're right he's not asking the court for mercy. He truly believed he was saving/freeing her from her situation thanks to the calling of a HIGHER authority but he knew he had broken the civil law which is why he waited for the cops. It's also why his plea was indeed to "the lord" and not to the court because of that belief. it's also why she's praying at the end for his release. Because they both believe he was put on that road that night (he said he was lost in a town he'd never been to before) to intervene on her behalf because clearly the civil justice system had already failed her but because of our flawed system the best he could do was essentially switch places with her. he gave up his freedom and his life to give her hers.

Great reaction, new sub. Raised Old School here. All these other guys reacting and debating and finding every excuse to not have to do anything. They are beta males that have never stood up for what’s right and gladly got in a physical dust-up over it. Ladies, there are still a few proper men out here. Don’t try and be a man; it’s fine to be a woman! Be one! And trust me; you get into trouble and he WILL handle his buisness. ‘Wait in the truck’ is a common saying down south where women are still respected,. Something goes down, you just stay put. You don’t need to see it, it’s potentially dangerous and bloody, and he doesn’t want you to have to see him this way. Let your man be one. He’s about to flat-out let another know they just came down the wrong dirt road at night.

I think that the girl probably had gone to the cops more than once about it. It could be that the abuser was a "high school hero" in this small town, so they didn't do anything (have known people in a similar situation back in the 1980s). The guy wasn't killed, but ... after a beatdown ... he did fall off a bridge heading home.

He traded his life for hers. when he pulls up(a free man) she was in her own Prison from being abused. at the end when you see her walking away feet free of shackles and him in shackles it shows the exchange of his life for hers. and she also drives away in his truck free just like he drove in a free person in the beginning.

Your reaction surprised me. I have seen other men much older like 50’s with a much more weaker take. I am so impressed with you and this is my first time seeing a reaction from you. You are so right. Society has made masculinity a crime. My take on this is that Hardy’s character was subjected to abuse as a child, like maybe mother, sister or himself and was too young to help them and put a stop to it. Him seeing this girl in a similar situation where he finally could help and put a stop to it was his way of making up for not being able to when a kid. Anyway just a take on it, and yes I know it’s not real. May God Bless you. ❤️😊❤️

Hate to be the bad news person but I grew up in a rural area and watched plenty of us girls end up with assholes that put their hands on us. I'm 40 and just now finally learning that not all country boys put their hands on women. I've spent the last 2 years learning how to pick better men and it doesn't matter where they are from or if they know their father or not. Some men are violent and some are not. Just gotta see the red flags and be strong enough to walk away even if you're in love. Took a red Ford driving farm boy doing the worst thing that's ever been done to me after dating him for 3 years and living through hell for most of it to teach me the lesson I should have been taught as a kid. That it is less about a man's background and masculinity than it is about how much they respect the people around them and value them. Now I'm dating a farm kid that loves me and treats me well and gets along really well with my boys. A lot of people tried to say I should stay away from rural area guys but I think that monsters are every where. Love my city people but also love my farm kids.

Another way to look at it He might have grown up in a household where his dad was abusive, and maybe his dad killed his mom and there was nothing. He could do about it but now there is..

Everyone is unique in our own way. We all develop our beliefs from our own experiences and faith. Not one of us are the same. I personally believe that an Angel would fight for us. There are many tales of Angels doing just that in the Bible. Even God and Jesus did. Sometimes we are just faced with a difficult choice, all of us are. In this song this man stepped up and freed this woman from further torment and potential death. It was his choice, his sacrifice. One he was able to make, one he could live with. He owned it. To him it was no sacrifice. In today's society we are programed to look the other way, keep our mouths shut, disbelieve. That's what makes it so easy for human and especially child trafficking. But some people do see and it is them we need to listen to.

You come to Texas where we were raised right. You hit a woman especially as badly as this woman was. YOU DO THE RIGHT THING! What does she do? Go to cops get a TRO against him and get your butt beat again? Try that in a small town. See how far you get down the road. You do it as a man. You take any punishment given. In prison this guy is a hero. No one will mess with him. Yankee folks you come down here we welcome you but you beat a woman.... Good Luck. I would have followed the same lead.

Nobody should be hitting anyone over a "bad day". I hope you didn't mean that it is.
