First time I heard this song I was driving on the freeway and had to pull over cause I couldn't see from crying so hard. He traded his life for hers. she was in her own Prison from being abused. at the end when you see her walking away free and him in changes it show the exchange his life for hers. and she also drives away in his truck free just like he drove in a free person in the beginning.

Growing up as a southern woman you KNOW that when a guy tells you to wait in the truck, he's gonna take care of business & you can't be a part of it. No judgement here I knew too many women who suffered in silence because when they got the courage to call the law it just made it worse.

Sadly, a lot of times the justice system fails victims of domestic violence; i know this as a fact. Perhaps Hardy's character does too which leads him to make the decision that he does, thus being guaranteed that she will "never be hit again" or worse, killed. 🩵☘️🥀
