For some reason, I gained an obsession with the episode Wolfie when I was 13. I literally would watch it every day before bed. It was about their friend Hector seeing some wolf exhibit at a museum and growing obsessed with the idea of being one. My sister and I would laugh so hard at the part where Craig eats him out of annoyance and then proceeds to stay up all night trying to cough him up. This show wasn’t perfect but I felt the friendship dynamic was done really well.

Sanjay and Craig came out at a time when my relationship with Nickelodeon was changing. I grew up with late 2000s Nick, and by 2013, I was 11 years old and all the shows that I cared about were either on their way out or had already ended. Sanjay and Craig was the last show on Nick that I genuinely was hyped for and enjoyed until The Loud House came out in 2016. 2013-16 was such a strange era for Nickelodeon, but "strange" does not necessarily equal "bad" imo. I'll definitely have to revisit the shows from that era.
@poweroffriendship2.0
@poweroffriendship2.0 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Nick has actually gone into slippery slope in the 2010s and whether if the show is good or bad, they cancelled the shows that aren't high as Spongebob and Loud House (formerly Fairly Oddparents). Loud House only gets off lucky compared to the cancelled shows like Harvey Beaks, but if Nick milked the show so hard, I'm afraid that the show might end up getting the same fate as Fairly Oddparents. Even the longest running shows can get the short end of the stick.

Sanjay and Craig is, in my humble opinion, an incredibly underrated show. While the overabundance of grossout and toilet humour could be irritating, the characters were really charming and likable with stories that were creative, entertaining and even heartwarming at times. It saddens that this show has been treated as a martyr by the majority of people online. While I don't think it's anywhere near being the pinnacle of television animation and will concede its certainly not going to appeal to everyone, I think its just a nice show to sit down and watch when you're in the mood for some lighthearted fun. It certainly doesn't deserve the negative reputation, and I hope someday people will be more open to look back on this show more fondly and with less hostility.

I did enjoy Sanjay & Craig back when it aired and it does hold a special place in my heart because it was the first cartoon, heck even TV show I saw, where I was finally seeing more accurate representation of a character who is of South Asian descent but grew up in a "Western" country! Coming from the era where South Asian characters, usually Indian, were often portrayed in American media in heavily cliched roles filled with ridiculous stereotypes and exaggerated accents, such as Ravi from Jessie, Baljeet from Phineas & Ferb, and Apu from The Simpsons, it was incredibly refreshing to see a character just like me, who grew up in in a "Western" country (in his case the US), didn't have an Indian accent as a result of being from the US, is one of the protagonists and isn't othered due to his father's heritage. I will admit, Sanjay was weird and gross BUT he was weird and gross like Craig and everyone else in the show and that's the key difference that the other shows failed in.

Jordan, you unlocked a partial memory that I had for this show, it came out when I was in middle school and I still watched cartoons all the time and still do to this day, even the new spongebob, anyway, I loved Sanjay and Craig when I was younger but when I watch it now, it feels so immature for me since I've grown so much over the year, for example, the constant fart jokes I loved it as a kid but now it feels like it's immature now. Maybe since I've grown up and matured a lot. But still, it was pretty nice to revisit.

I honestly really liked the show. Maybe they did go a little overboard sometimes with the potty humor, but a lot of episodes were really funny, and I enjoyed the crazy adventures these 2 went on. Huggle Bunny is by far one of the best characters of the show because of how strange he is, and because of the music that played whenever he appeared. I guess one of the reasons I enjoy it is because it first premiered on my birthday, which is something that might not happen for a lot of people.

I just remember countless summers watching marathons & new episodes of Sanjay & Craig. Before knowing about Adventure Time, THIS was my Adventure Time. I didn't grow up with Cartoon Network as much during the 2013-14 Era. Me and my brothers stick to Nickelodeon & Nicktoons because it had all we needed. We grew up with all of these underrated Nicktoons throughout this Era such as: Sanjay & Craig Rabbits Invasion Back at the Barnyard Harvey Beaks & Yo-Gi-Oh Along with the other well known Nicktoons like The Fairly OddParents, Spongebob Squarepants, Etc. These were shows that had Marathons to Marathons of awesome episodes playing back-to-back all day, Including re-runs throughout the late night and it made us laugh, comment, and pretty much copy their humor. We would make tons of references and jokes that came from these shows and it was pure Childhood. I would do anything to return to that point in time, that one era, where others might of not enjoyed it's existence or it's premise, but me and my brothers were rocking our Summer Vacation with these incredible Nicktoons every single day!

This and Breadwinners have been criticized way too heavily. These two were just some gems in my opinion. And I don't care if people find the artstyles ugly. To me, they are creative for their own rights (one looks like a mix of Regular Show and Beavis and Butthead, while the other looks like a video game, but with Ren and Stimpy up to eleven.) I've seen worse Nicktoons than these two. Such as Rabbids Invasion, Monsters vs. Aliens (the series), Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and Pre-School Daze. (I'm not saying my 2nd worst Nicktoon because I don't want to be bash by those... angry fans.)

I’ll give a hot take and say I absolutely LOVE the show. May seem crazy to think that a show like this would be in a top 3 cartoon list and while it’s subjective I’ll elaborate on why I guess it works for me: 1) everyone who says that the gross out humor in this is unbearable is IMHO crazy if they can go watch the “candy rot” or plague episode of flapjack. Or the one where a mermaid is predictably and systematically decomposed throughout a whole episode until there’s a last minute light hearted twist to prevent permanent scar tissue in the our collective eyeballs. Oh and I can’t forget to mention the R&S episode about ripping arms out of sockets lol. “Yeah but they did it better!” Idk to me it just seems darker, which is fine for some people and even myself at times because I love Flapjack but the light heartedness of SaC I absolutely adore. Between the vocal additions that Thurop added and the silly unnecessary animations (Toughlips’ first intro in the series where the car is in midair and they added the karate sounds 😂😂🤣🤣🤣) that’s all stuff that just seem unique to the show that makes my day better. As a carry over I’ll also say that the lightheartedness really makes the unpredictability pop in a more interesting and imaginative fun way than regular show. Another hot take here but being around the show for years since my sister and wife are huge fans and after trying to watch it multiple times over the years I don’t like the dry, mean spirited sarcasm that drips from the show’s characters at least from what I’ve watched. What I’ve seen is I guess small in relation to the series run time and I’m not saying that the entire series is like that but for me personally that’s just what I’ve seen and it’s hard to get into, whereas SaC seems warmer and fun when you try to watch it which like I said before makes the unpredictable nature of every show seem a lot more fun to follow along with. Also maybe from a writing/plot perspective kids and their imagination hyperbolizing scenarios and events make every extreme twist and turn feel relatable whereas jaded teenage park workers don’t lol again I’m not trying to bash regular show I’m just saying what I haven’t seen in any of the comments so far that maybe play into why some people really like SaC. Anyways I guess if you love the show too comment because I’m probably gonna get dragged for this 😅
