Hell yeah I do. One of the best “just normal kids with normal lives” cartoons from the 2000s, imo. It had some fun humor and running gags (I LOVED how the pizza place changes weekly.) But it was also very…Real and showed things that adolescents needed to hear. Like that one episode where Tino was trying too hard to get this one random kid to like him. Only to have to face the fact that this kid just *doesn’t like him* and he has no reason why. He just doesn’t like Tino. And the episode ends with Tino accepting that there WILL be people who just won’t like you and **that’s OK.** THAT stuck with me for life. I don’t remember an American 2000s cartoon that ever told its audience that it’s OK that you’re not liked by everyone. Because realistically, that’s not possible. As a kid, it actually made me think about that and it probably saved me from a lot of anxiety from trying to be a “people pleaser.” And this is just one of a few episodes that I remember. I still think it holds up despite its 2000s flavoring, so I recommend to even 2010-born kids.

I clicked so fast! This was my absolute favorite show when I was younger. As someone who's ultimate favorite series revolves around a character I don't even like that much compared to one of the others in the main group, I appreciate that The Weekenders gives episodes that focus on everyone. It's not just about Tino. There are episodes focusing on Lor, Carver and Tish too. I also appreciate that episodic and 10 minutes segments doesn't equate to "for children" because of the idea that children have short attention spans. Mind you, there are shows with 10 minutes segments that aren't for kids (Regular Show for one), but what The Weekenders does is tackle mature subjects in a way that resonates with every age bracket. There was an episode where Lor is convinced she need to look like this stick figure in a magazine to get the attention of her crush. She finds out on Sunday that he actually didn't care, appreciated her for who she was, and was concerned for her when she wasn't eating. There was another episode where Tish has a minor role in a film and could barely speak. However the fame from having the appearance (even if her voice was dubbed over) got to her head and she became demanding and had this raspy voice. I remember her yelling "Cream soda, now!" Of course, on Sunday, everyone forgot about it and Tish realized the fame got to her. I do know that other shows have tackled these exact subjects (Braceface and The Proud Family respectively) but they tackled it in a much more mature way imo. What I admire about The Weekenders is that it can get those same important beats and lessons across in a short runtime with the limitations of catering to a certain audience WITHOUT talking down to them or bashing you over the head with the lesson of the episode. The Weekenders was perfect. Comedic, didn't limit itself to one age bracket and focused on everyone in the main circle of friends. Other series like it should've took notes. Also, I have to laugh because a friend of mine made a similar joke to 10:40.

I always go back and re watch this one. I really enjoyed Tino's mum's character, more so now then when I first saw the show. Mainly because like his mum, I raised a child on my own, and trying to make ends meet, and ensure my kid had good values was a challenge. The Weekenders for me was just more profound when I was older. 100% Tino's mum is a Queen, and she deserves a lot of credit as a single mom for most of the series.

i think i was technically a little old for the show when it came out, but me and my best friend loved it. i downloaded and rewatched them all last year during a lockdown and i was surpised by just how well it holds up. it's such a chill show, so easy to watch and really funny, without ever feeling too childish or patronising, like a lot of kid's cartoons can be (although the "moral" elements of the show can be a bit heavy handed). the thing that most impressed me, though, was just how well it handled certain topics without ever straying into "episode of the week" territory. especially the stuff with tino's dad. i might just rewatch them again soon

Man I loved The Weekenders as a kid! It was one of the few shows that managed to get me to drag my lazy a$$ out of bed at the buttcrack of dawn on Saturdays. I loved how it didn’t feel like it was trying to pander to kids/tweens. It didn’t try too hard to be “cool” or force-feed lame moral lessons for no reason. It felt like one of the most grounded animated shows since Doug. If you mix Doug, Hey Arnold! and added a dash of a slightly aged up Recess then you get The Weekenders. I haven’t watched it in years but I’d still recommend it if you haven’t watched it.

6:52 - 8:43 and 10:42 - 11:07 Perfectly encapsulates my view for the series back then and now. The fact that the series aired on weekends back then, made it easy to reflect the themes of the series to real-life situations even better. Now, it feels like a nostalgic dream to watch the series once again. On another note, don't revive or reboot the series. It was a series based in outdoor activities of the 90s and the 2000s, a time where even cellphones weren't a thing yet. It would target those nostalgic people who had seen the original series as its primary audience. Other than that, the new generation of children who grew with different habits and norms, most of whom spent their time wasting it on their own cellphones instead of going to other outdoors activities, won't even understand the premise of the series, not to mention its long-running themes.

I rediscovered it a handful of years ago after a serious bout of nostalgia for my childhood/young adulthood, and since I recalled this show being sort of like a time capsule for the super early aughts I sought it out again. I came to really appreciate it and now think it's actually one of the better produced shows from that era. It's become a comfort show. Heck yes I remember the weekenders because my mom and I loved it to pieces. I remember it being a cartoon she enjoyed watching with me. Having a single mom and diverse friend group, I resonated a lot with Tino. Seriously an 11/10 watch with exceptional, engaging storytelling and well defined, fleshed out characters with real problems to overcome. Even the reruns had us at the edge of our seats. The last show we had like that was avatar. I'd do anything to go back to that premiere lol. Regardless, happy Fringemas and thanks for the stellar content. You really tapped into an obscure synapse, and that's my favorite thing about your content. And to the fellow viewers, what show did your parents end up enjoying just as much as you? I'd love to know!

Friday was always my favourite day of the weekend. It always felt good to wrap up the week and have this starry eyed hope of what the weekend could be. No day ever feels as good as Friday does - but the feeling is lost when you have a job that works weekends

I know this is came out long, LONG before Gravity Falls, but hearing about this show now, I just can’t help but get some serious Gravity Falls vibes from it, I guess because of how it’s both fast paced and also slice of life. Plus, Tino is pretty much just Dipper lol

This show was so underrated, it had one of the best theme tunes, had character clothing changes and dipped into interesting topics. Also loved the beginning and ending scenes with Tino. Later days!

Lor is a funny name... if you ask about her backstory, you may as well be asking about Lor lore.

I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like a vast majority of the shows around this time period (or perhaps slightly after) actually handled casual diversity in the cast far better than a lot of shows do now days. That honestly is not to say that today's shows are somehow bad or of lesser quality, but in some ways I feel like the more casual attitude towards it lead to a lot more realistic characters and scenarios than a fair few modern shows that choose to go out of their way to notably diversify their cast. Some amount of diversity and representation are immensely important to me personally as well as tons of other people, but a lot of recent attempts at creating diversified casts feel... forced, odd, unrealistic, or just like the character is only there for the sake of diversity. While I recognize that there were issues back then as well that I was blind to due to being a kid/young teen, I really appreciate a lot of 90s/early 2000s shows for including such a diverse cast in such a highly realistic and casual manner. It really is a pleasant reflection of real life, which is highly diverse, and especially as a kid: You don't care who or what your friends are. There are social issues that need to be addressed, yes. But when you're a kid, your friend could have any skin color, any background, any sexuality, and you know what? We'd love them for it. Because they were our friends.

Recently had the core memory of this show unlocked again, and I really miss this show. It and Pepper Ann were some of my favorite shows when I was younger. The problem is now I want to watch all the episodes again, but they aren't streaming!
