Baten Kaitos was the first card based RPG I ever played and always thought it was an incredible concept with huge potential audience. Having a hand of cards means that the commands at your disposal are somewhat limited, and you don't have to scroll through endless menus like older JRPGs which can be daunting to new players. Meanwhile, the combos you can pull off still allow for skill. Of course, games like Slay the Spire realized some of this potential many years later but I say, it's about time for the OG to come back.

Pretty neat that Monolith seems to still have a good relationship with Bandai Namco. That really could permit Xenosaga ports at the very least being possible, unlike how XenoGears is sort of lost due to Square being Square

Yeah it would be amazing. I played both Xenogears & the Xenosaga trilogy when they came out. It's easy to forget that Monolith Soft wouldn't be where they are now without those games. I do hope Square gets its act together & gives Xenogears anothe chance.

I would love a baten kaitos remake. I loved this game back in the day It was one of my favorite RPGs on the GameCube alongside tales of Symphonia. Wouldn't mind if the added some cinematic flair to the signature moves and also some cinematic cutscenes. That's just me personally because I always thought it had cutscenes in the game outside of the intro. So I would love that lol, also I will pick it up if it is a thing and I would want it to do well because the xenosaga collection needs to be a thing and I would also love a xenogears remaster/HD-2D remake. I bought Baten Kaitos at GameStop because I was intrigued by the art and story concept. I had not read any of the reviews at the time, but the game just looked like something I would love. To my surprise, it was a card based RPG, and I thought it wasn't going to appeal to me, but I ended up loving it. The gameplay loop was addicting, and you could tell it took inspiration from poker. I still have the limited art scroll that came with the game. It's one of my favorite games ever made.

Monolith Soft have 4 Studios, I'd imagine that the second team alongside BN would work on this remake with Honne leading the development, as he did with the original Baten Kaitos games.

Baten Kaits was from a weird point in time where a lot of RPGs were experimenting with card based battle systems. Baten Kaitos, Megaman Battle Network, Lost Kingdoms and Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories all come to mind. I was sad to see that era go. Aside from Chain f Memories, these were a lot of fun, and I felt this added a welcome splash of creativity to the RPG genre. As far as Baten Kaitos its self, I really enjoyed it. It definitely had a handful of flaws, but I'd welcome its return. I'd be totally up for a Short Sword, Flame Sword, Blackened Bananas, Air Bottle, Holy Sword 5 card straight.

I would Iove if baten kaiitos got a remake after all the work monolith have done I think it’s only fair they potentially get work on something else. I know this a pipe dream, (cuz square)but I would love it if monolith got a chance to remake xenogears as the original hexology not only would be a sense of closer for the team, but it would give the opportunity to expand the xeno IP (something they’ve said they wanted to do multiple times). I can see it an alternate reality where square either let monolith keep the IP or sold it to them. I imagine it would take place during a Nintendo direct, probably an anniversary event for xenoblade where they talk about the next title (xenoblade chronicles 0 or something like that) just as takahasi is going into detail of the new title he says “however that’s not all we have planned for anniversary. The team and I at monolith have been working on something really special and to show those who supported us from the beginning our gratitude, please take a look”. The screen then fades to black and the words a cult classic resurrected. It shows flashes of gameplay from the remade episode 5 (the one we got). The xenogears logo flashes, but then sharers with the caption 5 never before seen epics make their grand debut on the Nintendo switch. All 5 episodes line up next to each with the mysterious episode 6 fading in from the back round. The logo flashes again reveling XENOGEARS THE PERFECT WORKS EDITION. Coming winter 2024 or something. Obviously this all hypothetical and the chance of it happening are extremely slim and even if it were to happen they most definitely remake each game individually rather then a bundle, but a man can dream right?

In Xenoblade 3, there is what could be an easter egg hinting towards this game. There's a quest with Colony 0 in which you have to restore a painting. The painting reveals a picture of a group of people wearing clothes that don't resemble any of the Xenoblade entries. However, they do seem a lot like the ones in Baten Kaitos. I haven't played Baten Kaitos though, so this is just an idea based on looking at some random pictures of the game.

Having played both baten kaitos and that sidequest you're talking about, while its an interesting idea, doubt it. BK has a very... perticuliar and unique fashion sense for its character designs, and it doesnt match up with the clothing style of that said painting

When Switch first came out I remember reading something where Nintendo said they wanted the switch to last at least ten years In 2022 furikawa said Switch is just in the middle of its lifecycle and the momentum going into this year is good. The Switch is ready to break a pattern of our past consoles that saw momentum weakening in their sixth year on the market and grow further. If this is just the middle then don’t expect any new systems until 2027 or 2028 Again If Furukawa’s comments are taken at face value that would mean the Switch will still be on sale in 2027,

Baten Kaitos DEFINITELY deserves a remake. I played countless jrpgs by now, and BK is still one of the most unique. I especially loved the story, with plot twists that I really did not see coming and are still some of my favorites in games ever.

Personally, I think this will be a very safe/low budget remake. And if there is interest in the game they might make a sequel. But one could also argue that the game is so unknown that they might just essentially make a whole new game out of it. Very few people have actually played it.

I remember eating up so much information on Baten Kaitos and when i finally managed to get my hands on the game, I immediately fell in love with it, despite the awkward voice acting. And the combat was pretty neat, especially with how you technically play two characters simultaneously. Honestly, it should have been a duo-collection for the Switch, or if it is a remake, they could have done it so that it could include minor elements of Origins to really give the story a greater oomph, and when they decide to bring Origins into the fray and make the story altogether be incredibly nestled in a larger twist than what both games already established.

@@MrSPW93 - You control Kalas, but you are also playing as the spirit, in which Kalas interacts with you and you give a name and gender. So, from a bird's eye view, you are both the camera and Kalas throughout the adventure.

I hate when people suggest Xenogears should get a HD-2D remake. Leave that to games released prior to the PS1/N64 era. Xenogears deserves a fully fledged 3D remake.

I don't want a FF7R Situation where it tries to be close to the original Artstyle but in a whole new interpretation.

It’s great that Baten Kaitos gets a re-release, but I’m not exactly jumping to buy it. I’m sure I’ll buy it eventually. If it was Xenosaga, I’ll be buying it day one. Nintendo’s Investors don’t have their minds in the right place. I’m sure of it as Mario Galaxy 2, Gex, and the original .Hack series are still unavailable in the Switch’s Library, despite the Console nearing the end of it’s lifespan. Also, Am I the only one that wants Sega to port Sakura Wars & the rest of their Sonic Games. I know every time Sega tries to release from their back catalogue people get angry about it, but I enjoy playing their games. Obviously, not every game is top tier, but do they have to be to get a re-release. I’m disappointed at today’s cancel culture society. I don’t even get the option to buy a game, because somebody else doesn’t want to play the same things as me. Personal preference went from not being mainstream to almost non-existent.

The only thing outdated about Baten Kaitos is its voice acting (Origins was fine in this regard). The gameplay, story, art direction and music all hold up phenomenally. I'm just happy that Europe finally has a means of playing Origins other than importing it for silly amounts of money and having to use Freeloader to circumvent the region-lock

Baten Kaitos has top down pre-rendered maps so it'll come down to whether Monolith wants to remake those maps, which would basically be a full remake. Top-down pre-rendered RPGs haven't aged well IMO, so I personally hope they go the extra mile.

I really loved the universe of Baten Kaitos when it came out. But honestly, I would not be excited about a remake that keeps the card mechanics that arguably defines the game. I would prefer if the universe and story were preserved, but the combat evolved into something that is more real time. Also, at the time, the game used these pre-rendered environments to achieve a unique visual style. Today, I would expect more freedom to explore in an actual 3D environment. But I suppose many would consider this a betrayal of the original form.

I'd argue crisis core is just a remaster. It uses the originals code for pretty much everything and it's just been updated with new assets and QOL. a Remake means something much different (to me anyway). Everyone uses the words so interchangeably now

Baten Kaitos was so friggin good and had an amazing battle system and gameplay. It was ahead of it's time, it would have done so well on modern Nintendo after the Weeb trash revolution. As much as I wanted to like Xenoblade, the gameplay was just so lackluster every time. Would love to see a Baten Kaitos remake and the series get the recognition it deserves.
