Excellent video. I got this light last week and have used it a few times since then. Absolutely blown away with its performance and output. Its the perfect "fits in my trouser pocket" light for when I don't want to or need to take my Nitecore TM28. Most of my use comes from using it as a light I use for nature spotting, down my local river, countryside, and with its excellent range, and candela, and focused beam, makes it perfect for my uses. Obviously if I want the max reach, and extra brightness, then the TM28 gives me that. I didn't get this torch for its tactical applications, but more for a "fits in my trouser pocket" size of torch and obviously for its performance and light output and reach and its candela output. I really like the two modes. I find that I often switch between them either during my nature walks (for example if I am using turbo mode quite a bit, and don't want to physically keep the mode button pressed in to give me turbo access). Or if I am not using turbo mode, for example when going to and from the river area, and want the memory mode feature as I do need to switch the light off and then back on at certain points, and I then do not want the P23i to come back on, on 3000 lumens, but instead want it to remember the light level I had on before switching it off. And also to have access to the 1500 lumens option (which is not available in tactical mode). I find the P23i still gives me more than adequate flood width to light the full width of the path I am on, but still manages this and gives an excellent long reach to. I could not be happier with the P23i.
@TallysVids Жыл бұрын
I think the main reason that Nitecore include a Daily Mode on their tactical lights is because they know that not everyone who buys one, will use it in tactical applications. A lot of people (me included) buy tactical lights for their compact size, amazing amount of output and performance for such a compact size and also because people like/prefer the power button on the tail cap and typically tactical lights have them on here. Personally, I think it is a good idea on Nitecore's part to include both modes as it keeps everyone happy. If you buy the light purely for tactical applications, you can set it on tactical mode when you first receive it and then just forget about it.

I really like this light too. I've recently got this light. I looked a LOT at the competition. Each light has its trade offs and each user has their specific wants. For an EDC light that covers the range in variable brightness levels and cover distance ranges with a high candela, not to mention a reasonable price for the light and quality you're getting, this light is tough to beat. It has a daily use mode and a tactical mode. I find the tactical mode is great for my daily use too. You always have the turbo strobe available but in tactical mode, the main button is ready to go with turbo. With the mode button right under it, and knowing what lumen power I want, it's SO quick to adjust just the lumens I want. Yes, it's important to me that the light works as a defensive tool for first, upsetting the vision of an attacker(s) and second, to use as a striking tool. I love how it has the breaking glass metal points on the bezel to break glass if needed. Having to personally need and use a glass breaker to save someone in their car before, I don't take that tool for granted. Just saying, that the P23i has exceeded my expectations. I like so many brands but I'm developing a 'bias' for Nitecore.

@2fast2block Жыл бұрын
@@todds2254 yeah, it's a great light. The lumen modes are so right-on. Maybe someday I'll get just to get it. I understand lumens is one thing and candela is another, but I've become somewhat of a candela freak. Just last night I got a lux meter so I could put in the formula to get candela of a few lights I have. The P23i was about the 55,000 candela rating, My new Weltool T8 Plus was just below its listed Full Power of 94,000 cd and was more like 93,000 but the High mode was 45,000 instead of the listed 44,000. The P17 just doesn't reach the candela I want yet I understand it puts out more light for a great overall view. Right now I'm looking at the Weltool M8 Zoomable light. There lights are such quality. They don't have all the things that other lights offer, but what they do offer is awesome.

Can we take a second and appreciate the Iron Maiden shirt? Awesome review as always. Having two modes like this is EXACTLY what Fenix needs to do on their “tactical” lights. Starting in high/turbo is a must for tac use. The rotary tailcap like on the PD36 TAC is fine, but their dual button lights need a true tactical setting.

Great review of the P23i! I think the dual user modes make this flashlight more versatile and I love it. I use the daily mode for simple tasks around the house which require varying intensity of brightness, and then switch to the tactical mode when going out for walks at night. The instant burst of turbo helps fend off agressive stray dogs.

I have a Nitecore MH12 SE and the newer MH12 Pro which I use both for tactical and non-tactical. They are smaller, have less weight and similar throwing distances (405/505 meters). The P23i is certainly nice but for me there is no need to buy it and even if I did not own the two MH-12's yet, I probably would still buy the MH12 SE which I prefer slightly over the MH12 Pro.

Great light and love The Klarus style UI mode switch.I would have LOVED and extra 150 meters of throw on Turbo(to around 650-700 meters like Cyanski K3 version 2.0) with a longer runtime on Turbo before dropping down.

You’ll have to sacrifice the bezel size of the light being bigger in order to have that. Otherwise nitecore a mark was to keep the overall light subcompact and small for pocket carry. For this reason I LOVE my fenix pd35 v.3. Different lights different strokes lol

470 meters is pretty long throw..in truth throwers that can hit 300-350 meters would be plenty for anyone that actually use them daily ..I would say most people in general only use flashlights up to 50-100 meters..other than that people are just using flashlights for shock and awe with their friends.

Brightness is not linear so 3,000 won’t be twice as bright as 1,500. I think that’s right. In tactical mode you sort of do have high because turbo would probably drop to high after about 30 seconds.

I know this is a bit of a different category, but how does this compare to the Nitecore TM9K Pro? I do want some range but how floody the beam is is also important to me. I mostly need something with 2-3h around 1500 lumens. The TM9K Pro is brighter and has longer runtime but I don't like that the battery is not removable.
@@ChrispyThings - I just watched that review actually! Great review but I wanted to see if the P23i has a wide enough spill since the 2h runtime on 1500 lumens is enough for what I need it for. I'm not sure from video footage alone if the 2000 lumens on high for the TM9K Pro is that much better than the 1500 lumens on high for the P23i.

Perception of brightness is non-linear, it takes 4 times the actual lumen output to be double as bright for our eyes, so 1500 to 3000 lumens doesn't look double the brightness, but may very well be.

A light that that doesn't know if it wants to be an EDC light or a thrower. :) I'd say it's an expensive EDC light that "does a little throwing"...55k candela...not that much these days...dedicated thowers like the Thrunite Cagtapult V6 are more capable and 1/3 less money..... Nitecore--well made lights but just a tad on the pricey side...in the same group as a Fenix and Olights. I'd rather get an olight Jasvalot Mini for less money....if THROW-ability was the goal... I have a 2014 Nitecore P19 EDC/"tactical oriented light...lots of lumens power on each mode but setp like a "tactical light" in that you need to click the tail switch to turn it on and off but to change lumen modes you use the side switch...not practical. I didn't kow better then picking ...heh...If you're getting an EDC light then ALL functios should be controlled by the side switch...."tactical"? then ALL functions controlled via the tail switch ONE-handed...and be a thrower...IMHO..

My little MH12SE almost keeps up with it, so I think the 3000 Lumens rating is a little optimistic? But the kicker was the funky beam spill. It was kind of a lopsided ‘Cloverleaf,’ like the old 4 emitter NiteCores. I’m thinking the TM16GT, which I own and love. I was told by NiteCore Store, and Charles BridgTec it was normal and due to the strike bezel? I don't know, but I sent it back. Just FYI for y’all out there! Peace

as an owner of all P series in the current spectrum, I will say that claiming this light "can tail stand" should be taken VERY lightly. Because the compressed hoops at the bottom are slightly curved and VERY thin, completely compromising their sturdiness if the surface is not perfectly flat and vibration free. bump the table once or slightly blow/ graze the light and it's toppling over guaranteed. I would NOT trust this tail cap design for tail standing at all for this reason. Consider it a revision that nitecore made in order to give you a place to - finally - install the included lanyard which you couldn't for the prior 3 generations of P series lights (even though they *always* came in the package with one, hilariously enough), and secondly it aids in accidental button presses when holstered or bumped. ironically making it slightly more difficult to use in the optional NTH32 hard shell holster that comes with a hardened surround for the tail cap to eliminate accidental activation (which the P23i tail hoops graze on when holstering the light. It was designed around the P20 and P20iX. but still DOES work with p23i if you don't mind carving a mild groove in the holster where it hits over time)

There is a big... problem with this flashlight, the light is very good, very good, BUT almost... everything else is just annoying, stupid and bad, despite the superior light, I wouldn't buy this because it would drive me crazy through the way it works. I'd rather take a worse light and a perfect function, than the other way around. So I choose the KLarus XT11GT Pro instead, not as bright light at a long distance, but a pleasure to use, wonderful at every point. And if the power grid goes down so you can't charge, then you're left with a useless flashlight, Totally unacceptable, XT11GT can use regular batteries, purely a safety issue. The technology must also work after a disaster. Nitecore P23i obviously only work as long as the power you have lasts. KLarus strike bezel in hardened steel with an aggressive shape, that can also be unscrewed, is completely superior to this blunt design. And the Klarus Switch buttons are so superior that it's downright ridiculous. Great light, but why is everything else so mediocre...
