The mark of a great carpenter is one who can hide his mistakes. Nobody would have known if you said nothing. But mentioning it helps us all go way easier on ourselves. We thank you for that. It’s a beautiful piece. 👍👍

I mean yes... But also at same time it's surely about getting it right in the first place. I can guarantee that as a Craftsman your eye will always be drawn to the "fix" and as good as it is you'll still see it for what it is... And I'm speaking from personal experience here lol, not trying to be mr perfect. I just think that expression is a bit of a cliche

As You already referenced airplane builds .... that grid looked fantastic. You might also have a look into millboard/papermaché honeycombs, an even lighter filler core/sandwich core than Your fabulous baltic birch grid, supplied from places selling boatbuilding materials. It has more partitions than that grid and thus allows even thinner shell material. We built ply-in-form spheric plysandwhich decks for sailing dinghis with this method - a 1,9 meter 86 kilogramm grown man could stand on it with 5 layer outer ply-in-form from roughly 1mm veneer, vacuum lamellated with epo, and work in regatta speed on fore sails jumping around on it. It's a little finnicky with vacuum bagging though - You might have to reduce the evacuation rate to not crush it. We also had the honeycombs sprayed/cured with epoxy or 2K DD-varnish prior to vacuum bagging which did help a little against vacuum crushing. Putting in one sheet of glass-aramid fabric as second layer instead of veneer made it even stiffer - might be overshootin' with tabletops though.😄 Tabletop looks gorgeous. The "screwup repair" adds to the whole optics. Thanks for sharing.

Moments that made me laugh out loud: 1. butter my butt and call me a waffle 2. The blurred out peen clamp 3. When I see a moment when you are probably telling the camera "Not your fingers, not your problem..." Those tables turned out absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for entertaining and inspiring at the same time! Congrats to the winner!

In my experience bluetape (or any masking tape) in a vacuum press is trouble...the glue gets sucked into the pores of the wood..impossible to remove and showing up in the finish later...but I guess in this case the tape fell outside of your table's edge?

keeping designing and execution separate from another is pretty much the worst tip I've ever heard... and I'm saying this as an engineer myself... sure it might trigger creativity and problem solving, but this doesn't not lead to a smart, robust, simple and even do-able product. And since we live in a real world, those factors are still valid ^^ realisticly speakin: timing constraints and price limits will lead to a barely functioning product with a lot of half assed solutions build around an initially bad design, if you don't account for execution right from the beginning^^ Don't get me wrong: it might work in single-piece asthetic work and rightfully so: I like your products... but generally speaking: not a good tip :D

Machine sanding is not such a good idea when using veneers. Had you use a Ziehklinge, then your fortunes, may have had a different out-come. However, there isn't very much motor-power behind a Ziehklinge, it's more of an elbow-grease machine. Better luck next time. Nice furniture work!!

Lazy Susan. I grew up with round tables and lazy Susans (one at my parents’ and one at the grandparents) and you’d be surprised how much more interactive and social they make a meal. All the food goes in the middle, and instead of the awkward getting up and reaching (or passing big dishes around) that a rectangle mandates, the platform rotates a slow 360 while everyone helps themselves comfortably seated, and engages in the pleasant cooperative chatter that enables movement at the right time. The one hazard that happens once in a while and is made clear to those who aren’t regular users, is that you must remember to tuck in the serving utensils, especially when there is wine. It would cover up the center quite well, too :)

These look great, but I was very concerned about how many times your fingers were too close to an active blade. You had pushers literally next to your hand, but you chose to keep pushing with your fingers. I was very disappointed in that.

Yor amazing and do beautiful work. Quick question how did you attach the center circle with the dowel without damaging the veneer? What was the orange material you finished the table with? Resin? Thanks.
@walterulasinksi7031
@walterulasinksi7031 Жыл бұрын
I was surprised that you do not hav a circle cutting jij for your bandsaw. As it is a simple extension off the edge of the bandsaw with a line perpendicular to the blade. From this, you measure out the radius of your circle, and install a finish nail with the head cut off. Then after determine the center of the found you wish to cut. You place that center on the now pin of the cutting table. This pin, automatically firms up your center point. This method never fails.
