If the card stock is thicker..it does matter...it will crack. Also if your card stock is colored only one one side and white on the other the white will show thru if folded into the valley. Maybe with stampin up stock it is okay but if your like me and use other makes found the way you fold really makes a difference. Love you site by the way💜

Totally agree. It DOES matter SOOO much! You always want to score on the inside of the fold, because that way the fibers on the outside of the paper won't be broken, just stretched. It gets even more important when you work with color printed card stock. (I am referring to the stuff you are printing out yourselves.) And if you are sometimes printing stuff on a color laser printer, you definitely need to score on the inside - the outside WILL crack. Laser printers are not 1# choice for paper crafts because the color stays on top whereas with inkjets it seeps into the paper. I really think this video came from your stomach rather than your brain. Actually, as I am writing this, I am getting a little angry. The materials tested were not representative of what we use every day, still you say "it doesn't matter which way to score". Nope, definitely one of your better ones.

Kelly, it’s great that SU cs works no matter which side it’s folded on. But, not everyone uses SU cs exclusively. So it’s wise to inform everyone of the pros and cons and the reasons why it matters on some cs. Some cardstocks crack when folding the “wrong” way. The right way to fold on those papers is the way you showed it, folding back with the “valley” side facing you. The valley side of the score line is the side on which the paper was stretched. Stretching the paper, stretches/loosens the fibers, making it easier to fold away from you. That’s what prevents the paper from cracking. Hope this explanation helps.

Thanks Fran - I didn't know that non SU paper would be different. Good to know!

Terrific video. I fold towards the valley since it’s that way up when I score it. I fold it into the inside edge of the scoring mat and it holds it in place, so it scores straight.

OMG, Kelly! WHAT A CUTE IDEA! I don’t know, tho’, IF I like the Matchbox better~~~OR, the “Treats”???!! Haha! Love the tip, too! I do think I recall in one of your videos that when cutting cs vertically n’ scoring at 5 !/2”, it works better without cracking at the fold (or less chance of that), if you then fold so that the valley is on the outside! (IF my memory serves me right??!!! Haha!). Most of the time, tho’, I agree, it makes no difference! As always, TFS n’ HAPPY STAMPIN’ n’ CREATIN’!! ENJOY the sunshine! It’s about time, right??!! :-)

Thanks Judith! I always score my tall cards because the grain of the paper will look make your fold look bad if you don't.

Appreciate the reply, Kelly, as I knew there was “something to do” for sure to make your card fold better~~NOW I’m reminded again~~~ALWAYS SCORE! Thanks for helpin’ to “dust off my memory files”!! HUGS n’ HAPPY STAMPIN’ n’ CREATIN’ n’ TIPPIN’! :-))

Kelly - I nearly never watched this little gem, & I'm glad I never!! I'm in West Australia, & we have a Natiional Election in about 3 weeks, & I'm fed up with it already. I saw "politically correct", & immediately went to delete it, before realising you're in USA!!!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed your little project, & imagined a couple of tea bags in it, or elongating it & putting gift cards, Lotto scratchies, all sorts of things in them. Thank you so much!!!

any tips to cut the paper to perfect square ? because I can't cut it in perfect always lopsided, Thank you so much !
@KellyAcheson5 жыл бұрын
My advice would be to make sure that you are pushing your cardstock up against your guide - you have to use the guide or baseboard of your paper cutter to get a straight cut. Have you considered that maybe something if wrong with your paper cutter? You might need a new one.

It does make a difference. Some paper will crack and split causing ugly looking cards. Wish some homework would have been done before doing this video. Finding out the hard way causes frustration and wasted paper.
@KellyAcheson5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that information Gloria. I was not aware of this problem with other cardstocks or I would have stated that in the video. Thank you for telling me. I do only use SU cardstock as a SU demo - so I'm hoping people will consider that this applies to SU cardstock. Have a GREAT Friday!
