Oh, I had that happen to me. I was transporting stuff from a station to a carrier. Dropped at carrier, but ended up dropping inside station... yeah, I was confused, too

That used to happen to my squad all the time, we figured out, if whoever your trying to drop on is to close to a planet or moon itll drop you way out, have to just lock the P.O.I, CZ or whatever your trying to get to (no wing signals) and do a standard approach.

The game dropped from supercruise me really far away from where I was supposed to be, like a little across the system. so I had to go back to supercruise and go all the way back there....again

Had the same problem by suporting my friend too. I wanted to just in his location but i always got jumped 1mm away from him
