This performance is good considering it was performed by the young generation against the more colourful and mature one they performed 100 years ago! The Maoris are not just blanks that can be duped with cheap money and western goods. They have their own civilization they developed through the 3000years they lived on Aotearoa without the incomers from other countries who tried to replace Maoridom with their own way of life stealing Maori land at any chance they had. The settlers should have left the Maoris alone to live their own lives the way they know best. When you force changes like that into other people & replacing their culture, you are also murdering their souls! I feel the pain all Maoris went through but that was 100years ago. Today is 2025 and Aotearoa had grown up to be a great country to live and bring up your family. Let us all forgive pain from the past so that we can forget let go of the wrong we all went through. That will enable us to live and work together to keep building New Zealand up to where it can reach. Anger will only spoil this beautiful country. Peace to everyone in Aotearoa & New Zealand or Niu Sila !!!

What a strange, but fascinating ceremony! What is the meaning of it?

@@carlot7999 New Zealand’s national day is the 6th of February and it’s called Waitangi Day. The days leading up to the events the local tribe on and around Waitangi welcome guest to the event. This event is called a pohiri. Today’s guest are the Māori Queen, tribes from the coastlines and other representatives from the South Pacific. Yesterday the governor general of New Zealand was welcomed and tomorrow government representatives will be welcomed.

This is a traditional Maori welcome, a challenge to the visiting party that they come in good faith. Unfortunately, Maori chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840 with the English Crown allowing th7 to settle in Aotearoa NZ & develop together as one united people. The Treaty or Lawful contract between Maori & English Crown has never been honored by the Settlers. The English Settlers confiscated Maori lands, their health, their knowledge, their language & all that Maori held dear. Peace love liberty to all beings ❤

That's the signing of the waitangi treaty for indigenous people of Aotearoa(New Zealand) a contract between the crown(england) and Maori which we are still fighting for it today! Thanks for educating us.
