How to Sail Oceans

How to Sail Oceans

Күн бұрын

Well it's been a month at anchor behind Miami South Beach, and the infamous Miami heat (not the basketball team) has arrived. I took some refuge in the air-conditioned gym, but my membership has expired and it's time to head north anyway. Which means I have to reverse the tricky process of sailing through three sets of bridges while managing rather swift tidal currents. Once out into Biscayne Bay, I have only to wait for a favorable wind shift to head offshore for the Chesapeake Bay.

I got stressed just watching it Kevin. I don't think I could ever get used to tight sailing between bridge spans with no motor. As the French say, 'Chapeau'.

Kevin, This is the first of your videos I watched shortly after you posted it. I immediately subscribed thereafter. It's now June 10th, and I just watched it for the 2nd time. During the past several days, I started binge watching your videos starting from the beginning, spending 1 to 2 hours per day, and went all the way through - back to this one. I love what you do, and enjoyed all of your videos. I'm a retired naval architect and marine engineer, landlocked for the past 15 years (even though I live along the Downeast Maine seacoast). My soul has a need for a return to the sea. I'm presently working up a set of plans for a new boat, which I'll be building myself (I used to have a wooden boat shop on Cape Cod year ago). I'm sharing the design process on my KZbin channel weekly. I will make the plans available free to anyone interested when I've finished building the boat. I hope to see you in port one day soon. I'd love to have a chat. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of your next video, and hope you made a safe passage to the Chesapeake.

Much as I like AC-DC/music, breasts and a handful of other things that our cheap, tacky, consumerist society uses to manipulate & disorientate the irrational herd, I come here for an authentic boat/lifestyle/person. To be honest I don't even notice the music until I read this and replayed.... So it's not a problem, yet. Please, please, please let let this continue to be THE authentic sailing channel - man, boat, camera!!!

@@howtosailoceans1423 I have had to sail into our marina slip before because of contaminated fuel on our Beneteau 285, I lucked out and the wind was favorable to make it all the way in but it's not something I would want to do regularly. There is a nice anchorage at Virginia Key. The Seaquarium is nice there. The have a lot of injured animals. One of the ground plate bolts fell out! got it pumped down and found the leak. Plugged it temporary. Going to pull it, replace all the ground plate bolts and paint the hull.

@@howtosailoceans1423 I think the stadium anchorage is on the other side of the bridge. I dropped anchor around 25° 44.219'N 080° 10.359'W and took the dinghy to the parking lot due east. One of your videos showed Windy. I have been having a blast with that site. The other was Ventusky. I had a hard time getting the name of one of those off your video. They are very useful.
