it is so refreshing to see guys your age empathize with the women in this movie while also holding them accountable for their moments of hypocrisy. this movie is a perfect time capsule of what dating outside of major cities was like. i would recommend listening to the audiobook. waiting to exhale wasn't just about dating; it was about the overall social struggles of upwardly mobile black women.

This movie is a classic for an older generation of people. I was in middle school when it came out, and I didn't understand the significance and relatability at the time. I will say it's easier to see other people's struggles and feel that you'd never find yourself in similar. That's how I felt as a young adult as well. Life has a way of humbling us all and and making us understand that we're all a work in progress. Keep on living and you'll understand better by and by.

Whitney was having those inner thoughts cause she was basically mimicking the stereotypes those women at the table were thinking about her after all they men said she could sit at the table

That moment between angela and weslt was actually beautiful. They both needed something and it wasn't sex. In the book, they eventually end up tougher AFTER is wife passes and they never have sex before that. They become each others emotional support in a time that they both needed it.

Hey Cam here (the dude on the right) I picked up on that as I was editing and can definitely see it now. It was hard to see when we were watching because damn near everybody was cheating or helping somebody cheat. By that point we were done with everybody bs. 😂😂 Now I will still say he wrong for spending the night with and spooning Angela when he was married lol.

I know this is an old reaction. I just now came across these guys. I think that they didn’t understand this from a middle age point of view. I really believe that these guys well at least two of them wasn’t mature enough to understand the context of this movie fully. Because they weren’t cheating they were dating. No one was really in a committed relationship but Angela Bassets. And they didn’t get that Robin was already messing with Russell she was in love with him unfortunately. He just came in like a new Jack. They didn’t show him in the beginning. She knew he was married that’s why she was trying to date others. They just weren’t good choices. lol Mentality they just weren’t grasping the concept.

In the book, Gloria has a heart attack and ends up in the hospital. The movie was going to depict this storyline as well. That's why she had problems blowing out the candles on the cake. And why she also had a moment of detachment when offering dinner to Marvin. During the editing phase of the movie, they decided this storyline would take the film in a different direction so they edited the scene from the movie. They had already filmed scenes with Gloria in a hospital bed.

When I was watching the movie with my sister for the first time, the scene when Savannah (Whitney Houston 💖🙏)had these inner thoughts at the NYE party, and the women were looking at her with the stank face, they had this weird fear someone so beautiful might take their men away from them 🫤

Terry McMillan, the author of the book the movie was based off, was sort of going through her own relationship troubles when writing the book

She never confirmed (or denied) that she was in a relationship when she wrote the book but she did say the characters and relationships with the men in their lives were based on her and her girlfriends and their past relationships.

To me, I always thought "Waiting to Exhale" was/is a good movie. It's a classic. Yes these women made some mistakes but it's a realistic movie, a relatable movie. Perfectly imperfect. People made these same mistakes before and are still making them now. But you see how they were all able to learn from them and do what's better for them (especially Robin and Savannah). I feel like it's better to be single and happy than to be with someone in a relationship that is not working(not happy) and doesn't seem to be getting any better. But of course if you don't think you can be happy being single, then you need to decide if the relationship is worth fighting for. Or perhaps, your next relationship will be better. When you know better, you do better and if you've been in a bad relationship, then you know what things you don't want/do want for your next if you decide to start over.

I think the overall message of the movie is that sometimes you have to wade through trash before you get what you truly deserve 🥰✨ NB The 90’s used a lot of (occasionally soppy) music to set the mood 😂 - New Jack City comes to mind now 🎊

I think you in the middle overidentified with this movie. It's a tale of bad decisions people make in relationships and the journey toward growth. 3/4 of the women were involved in infidelity because its an easy story to tell. It's black and white.... However, this movie requires you to go a bit deeper than just the surface of infidelity for the message.

Love your reactions. Glad I found this channel. But this movie is simply about desperation, heartache and people's weird issues with being alone. I don't understand it myself, I love my own company but that's usually what bring people to mess with married men IMO. I haven't seen it since I was a child, but it's just pure entertainment to me at this point cause the idea of women running around chasing behind ANY man is low vibrational at best to me but it's based on the book by Terri McMillan ...IFYKYK.
