So, I've spent the last few hours watching videos of this song by all the women who've played Jenna over the years. I still like Sara Bareilles' version best, and up until I found this video, my next favorite was Jessie Mueller, who was the first to play Jenna when it opened on Broadway. Now I find it impossible to pick between the two, though Lucie seems to bring a deeper, heavier emotional weight to the performance. It's fascinating ... this is such a powerful, relatable song, and every woman who takes the role ends up doing something not only different but unique in a way that reflects their own lives and experiences along with their individual talents. Such a lovely song.
