I've watched all of the films, but this is easily my favorite film in the entire series. For me this is Godzillas most iconic and best design, his design just feels the most threatening (besides his gmk design) but also his most slick version of Godzilla we've seen. This movie also has my favorite gisnt monster ever, Orga, I love his design with how much of a juggernaut he looks like and I feel like his design could be used more in line with his attacks, the way his beam attack is used to how he is killed at the end. This movie also has my favorite poster design of all the films.
@AlFonso-p6pАй бұрын
The poster design was very classical. Feels like it jumped right out of the 1950s nostalgia era! Orga was an amazing concept. Just the alien UFO thing was iconic in itself but when you got a hybrid Godzilla clone with UFO powers that was like on a whole other level of monster!!! The part at the end where he was just beating Godzilla and draining him while he just got stronger and stronger and evolved more and more!! Seriously felt like Godzilla was gonna lose this fight for sure!! I actually believed he was gonna lose this time! Total thriller! 👍

Not gonna lie, Katagiri was one of the best characters in this movie, since he really made you hate the fuck out of him when he did what he did to Yuji Shinoda, and because he was just an asshole in general. The funny thing is, as I was watching the film, Hiroshi Abe's stoic and gritty portrayal of Katagiri really felt like he was an evil version of Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star/Hokuto No Ken, so much so that I thought that he would have been a great Kenshiro. Sure enough, he actually voiced Ken in the Legends of the True Savior HNK OVA/films, which is freaking awesome. Dude is a great actor and voice actor. Also, I have to give a lot of major props to Takehiro Murata's portrayal of Yuji Shinoda, as he was a really likable protagonist and his chemistry with the girl that plays his daughter Io was really fun to watch (particularly the scene where they think Miyasaka is on to them).
@ricardodavis4730 Жыл бұрын
Very observant! I agree. To me, Katagiri was an asshole,yes, but was also doing his job (saving Japan) but at the cost of Shinoda's life.
@SpScarletSpider Жыл бұрын
@@ricardodavis4730 Yeah, when I think of it, Katagiri's character was more of an "ends justify the means" approach to protecting Japan. While some of his intentions were good, his flaw was that he could only see things from a black and white perspective rather than trying to find another way that could be a more balanced/nuanced approach that would minimize casualties as much as possible. I know many people hate some of the human stories in G-films, but they really do have a lot of depth to them that people tend to overlook in a lot of these films. Without a good human plot, the kaiju fights wouldn't have you as invested in them, IMO.

For comparison: Sentai and Tokusatsu shows are produced on a shoestring budget compared to what western companies blow on their TV productions. This monster was a huge part also, along with Star Wars, of what drove me to to do what I do for a living and have the career I've been fortunate enough to have. Most of the creature crew for Roland and Dean's film are personal friends of mine and Curt Carley (the suit actor for that film) has played monsters in a few of my films as well. I was 4 when I saw this movie in theater. They played an ad for the grinch which scarred me for years but I fell in love with this specific design and oh my god the ROAR. Out of all of his roars this one beats them all for me. As for Orga trying to vore godzilla (it’s the Japanese of course) I heard different theories as to why Godzilla just leaped into the jaws of his enemy willingly. My own head canon is that Big G is a very well seasoned fighter while little o is a rookie at best and desperate to get back his advantage. In opening his big maw Big G in that little roar he did right before running right in was actually a laugh. A laugh that his enemy would leave themselves that unbelievably vulnerable to attack. And we all know what happens next...

I love this design of Godzilla the most. He is beautiful. He looks feral and elegant simultaneously. The Orga fight is hilarious to me as an adult tho lol.

Yeah those are absolutely reused Godzilla 1998 roars. They're some of my personal favorite and I grew up on that movie and the Animated Series, so they're very recognizable to me. 2000 is one of my personal favorite Godzilla movies and especially designs. He just looks badass here. I'm not a fan of the green color, but I love the purple dorsal fins.

I always thought this was the JR. Version of Godzilla, complete with psychic connection, restraint AND desire for revenge. Mature fire rings would have been excellent.

I saw this in the theater when I was a kid with my dad....kind of. Going in he didn't know it was a Japanese movie dubbed over in english. He assumed it was a sequel to Zilla. About 10 minutes in he stood up and said he wasn't sitting through "this crap" and marched into the lobby and got his ticket refunded. He assumed I would get uncomfortable by myself and follow him out. He vastly underestimated how much 11 year old me was enamored with this movie so he sat (very pissed off) in the lobby until the movie ended.

My favorite Godzilla movie! It has great characters, interesting plot, a nice soundtrack, incredible practical effects in spite of the akward cgi, and the Godzilla 2000 incarnation is also my favorite, he just looks so great with it's rough skin, flame shaped spines with a purple coloring, dinosaur-like build, the crocodilian head with a wonderful roar and animalistic personality

Anyone Else Notice That As Orga Is Forming, It Kind Of Looks Like The Independence Day Aliens? Coincidence, I THINK NOT!!!

Japanese monster movies were a huge source of joy to me as a child, especially when combined with a crazy host like Cleveland’s Superhost, Ghoulardi, and Big Chuck Polish Power, Houlihan, & Little John. Now at 57 years old watching any Godzilla movie brings back that childhood glee. How many people remember The Ghoul getting in trouble for blowing up a dead rat with an M-80 on live tv at 1am Sunday morning while showing a monster movie. Sad that type of stuff is lost forever to today’s children. The glee of being free and crazy!

The suit for this one was incredible. The arms were held with hands parallel to the ground making it more animal like. As for GMK, except for having Baragon, I have never been as impressed with this one as others. Time to give it another try.

I saw the original Godzilla as a 5-year old. It was rebroadcast everyday that week on the TV in L.A.. With my imagination, I saw every foothill in the San Fernando Valley as a sleeping Godzilla, who in any minute might rise up and destroy L.A.. Years later, living at the beach in San Francisco, I had a friend, Henry, who I would play with. I had a 3-foot inflatable Godzilla, and we both had 1-foot high Godzillas. I would imitate Godzilla rampaging the livingroom smashing Lego buildings and Matchbox cars. He was five, when Japanese release of Godzilla 2000 was playing in town, and his parents allowed us to go see it in the theater, as he was pretty desensitized of the horror aspect and saw it as cartoon violence. We had a great time watching the movie, although I had to help with some of the subtitles. At the end of the movie, Godzilla roars and does his 360 spewing out his heat rays destroying the landscape, and the "The End" graphic is shown. Henry roars out "The End of Tokyo!", and the rest of the theater audience laughs along with me as we applaud.

Only one I know of is Mighty Peking Man from Shaw Brothers. Interestingly the assistant FX person from it went to work on the fx for the heisei movies.
