Nice strategy and excellent results. I’ve done this with my Rolliflex and it’s really a great feeling. As Richard Avedon once said great a portraits “is not meant to be a likeness.”

Love this, Ken. Great shots. I like the waist-level (and lower) POV. I need to shoot my TLR's more often, but I have to admit, I feel awkward with a TLR. I always worry about camera shake. I never feel confident that I have a good tight grip on a TLR at waist-level like I do with a 35mm camera pressed to my eye. The other thing that makes me reach for a 35mm or digital camera instead of a TLR is the film scanning process. 35mm film is a snap to scan with my handheld scanner. Scanning 6x6 negatives on my CanoScan 9000F page scanner is a slow and arduous process.

I use a light table and DSLR and macro lens for 120. It's quick and easy.

Mr Wajda, nice images. I especially liked the fellow wearing the belt buckle with the cross, and his tough demeanor. I would love to shoot with film, but I don't have the post development patience. I do photograph with a small camera (GR iiix) set to a B/W profile. When showing the image to the person from the LCD they usually are intrigued with the image being in B/W.

Kenneth -- when you were doing this, did anyone ask you "what are you going to do with these photos?" Has anyone ever asked you that? Of course nowadays people seem to be concerned about being photographed in public and what's going to happen with that image (as though it's going to be used for some nefarious purpose), you need a photo release blah blah blah (which you don't unless you use it for advertising etc). I've had that happen on occasion, and most of the time I say that I don't really 'do' anything with the photos, other than put them on my Flickr and that's about it. Really just keeping the creative gears moving along, even if nothing really comes of the photos.

I tell them I'm making it so I can give it to them. That it's a wonderful portrait that I will gift them. That usually works pretty well. Then I make a small print and put it in a frame that I source at yard sales for pennies and gift it to them and they light up like you can't imagine. And my work is spread out in 'home galleries' now around the world.
