This was the most motivating video I ever seen. I'm 23 y.o. guy from Slovakia, living already a year in the Netherlands. I am excited about photography since I was kid, and finally a year ago bought my first DSLR camera to learn photography. I spent all my saved money to buy my first beginner DSRL, and since I have it I try to get better and better. I always shoot for myself, but since I bought a better lens for my camera I got more and more enthusiastic about photography. I get more motivation, trying to learn more and more by watching videos and photoshoots, analyze myself what I have to improve, and this is the way how I get more and more excited and motivated. Watching your videos, got goosbumps all the time, because I felt your energy how you giving us your thoughts and experience of photography. Thank you for this! I really love it, you give me more energy and even more motivation about photography, and promise I will improve myself to be a good photographer

I studied photography in a post-secondary education university for which I also paid much money! Believe me when I say that I learned so much more by watching youtubers' videos like yours, the Bite Shot(Joannie), Peter McKinnon, Chris Hau etc! In the two years studying at the university, I learned only 40% of the photography! And also, I didn't have from them, a real support in what I wanted to do which is Travelling Photography...So yeah....I totally agree with you, bc I've learned so much about the thing I love the most by all of you...and I still am! And also, this video is an oportunity to test me again on portraits, so thank you 🙏🙏🙏

Same here! I feel heard and understood 😅 I was so frustrated with myself last night because I was trying to edit a photo on a program I’ve never used before. The photo wasn’t sharp enough (first time working with shallow depth of field) so I was trying to sharpen some areas and it just was not working for me. Her saying PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE is actually making sense in my small brain lol I knew my shutter speed wasn’t high enough. I’m glad I have another practice opportunity this coming weekend (gender reveal). So far, I found that I love shooting close up portraits AND editing them doesn’t feel like a chore.

I am now managing a team of designers. I'm still learning in this field of photography, and I know I can learn even more by watching KZbin videos, trying out various shots, and listening to professionals. @Kiev Kelvin Thank you for your question. When I was a beginner, my favourite technique to learn graphic design was to see how other pros did it, to learn from your mistakes, to perform self-study, and to be curious about how to do it easily. I want to work smartly, not hardly.

Hi. I'm 57 years old now. I have been taking photographs since I was 8 years old. My first camera was a kodak with disposable square flashs. They came in 5 or 8 in a box. It was fun. In 2004 I took a photography course. I just wanted to just to learn new things. I already knew everything. They didn't teach how to shoot photography. I already knew this. I have a certificate on photography. I'm Puerto Rican. I use my photography on graphic designs art work for my books. Photography has opened many doors for me. I use it to create my art work for my music albums as well when I'm releasing new music. I do a lot with photography. The possibilities are endless.😊

I've been studying photography alone for the last few years I want to say maybe three or four. And I hate to say that I started to lose passion with it, not because money was the main objective but because I truly love it. I guess I got stuck in the same old routine with it but just now watching this has brought new inspiration into my life. I can honestly say thank you because I really needed to hear all of this. From this day forward I'm going to experiment a lot more with different kinds of photography and not just sticking to portraits like I have in the past. I now know and see the importance of experimentation, after looking over your work it fills me with joy.

KZbinrs like you Laura are really life savers. You have been really inspiring me since I came across your work on Vero. I am in the initial phase but I feel very stuck often because of not getting enough opportunities to get shoots. I think that's where I am going wrong. Focusing on money rather than the craft. I will try to improve my craft even more now. To be a good photographer. I really want to market myself and work with brands and individuals as well but I often get very stressed as I am not able to do that. Where I live in India, it's quite a task to make a living through Art. Harsh truth but it is. I think It will take some time and I will make it eventually.

I studied Photography at university some 16 years ago and I must agree with you. At that time there was no accessible way to obtain knowledge like nowadays since youtube had barely any good content and most techniques (I mean mainly retouching techniques and some tricks with digital cameras) that are used now were not even invented. So university was the best way to learn. Now with so much content on youtube and other places I would not recommend it. After a few years of hiatus due to various reasons I now try to refresh my skills to try to get back into photography again and I learned more from youtube videos than back then in my university.

I went to University and I went from an average event photographer to a commercial advertising photographer fairly quickly, doing workshop lighting Learning all the light shaping tools which taught us how to light different subjects and textures to create shape, form and contour was a great education we had weekly prac lessons shooting different subjects and we had access to cameras and all the studio lighting you can imagine. it helped me decide in what genre photography I wanted to pursue, you also mix with a lot of like minded students make connections and we had regular excursions visiting photography studios that did from fashion, industrial, product photographers to even sports and wedding photographers. Highly recommend if you have the time and can afford it. The fundamentals of photography hasn’t really changed only the gear we use, don’t focus on the gear, learn your lighting and composition which is something you tubers don’t know how to teach you its something you need to learn by experimenting yourself or taking an education. For example at Uni I learned how to light Wine bottles really well and managed to get heaps of work as we have a huge wine industry in the Hunter valley near my area.

The best way to learn and we are talking about photography is to just get out there and practice by taking photo's. See what works see what doesn't, note your settings. Yes use advice from people such as you Laura but the only way to get your own unique style is trial and error, with plenty of practice. Also print/develop your own works, for that makes you a better photographer. Theory does have it place as in the understanding of light and how to use it to your advantage and how to control it. It is a big subject which requires plenty of hands on practice.

I just randomly discovered your channel. I like your energy. I'm a semi-pro photographer who's been doing it just for fun for 30 years. I have done paid work such as weddings, portraits and etc, but only when I am asked. Soon I will be creating two photo businesses, and the reason I have confidence to do that, is because of what you said; don't get caught up in the technical aspects, just do it. I paraphrased a bit. I do like the technical side too, but clients and friends don't care about that, just capture the magic by simply doing, and that will teach you far better than all the technical book reading.

I purchased an old Minolta manual film SLR just to learn about ISO, lighting, finding clear focus, and how to use prime lenses. I watched tutorials and just took my baby out in the yard and took some pretty beautiful pictures of him, and some yucky ones too in the beginning. I’m a stay at home mom, I can’t afford classes or even a new camera. I want to move to a DSLR and I’m looking at 10 year old camera and lens kits for about $200. I love film, but I also want to be in the digital world. I have many friends/contacts who just want good quality family photos that don’t break the bank, and I’m looking to fill that gap. And I just love it as a hobby, I’m not looking to support my family on photography, but if I can make enough to cover the cost of my equipment and software I consider that a success.

Great video! One trick that worked well for my pizzas at home was turning the broiler on for the last few minutes before putting the pizza in and turning it back to 550. Super heats the steel for a the perfectly crispy bottom while cooking the pie in the perfect 4-5 minute mark. Great looking pie man!

I really needed this I am just starting and it's really kind overwhelming seeing how wide and tough the journey is going to be especially in Nigeria here And also getting the equipments I need is really so tough, I need to practice, as of now I can only practice editing cause there's no camera. The fact that family don't even believe in it

It can be very overwhelming indeed! That’s why it’s always a good idea to start slowly. Watching videos and practicing. If you don’t have a camera yet, practise with your phone as much as you can. It’ll help you with framing and composition. Also with getting more and more creative. My family never believed in photography as a career so I understand how it feels. Just keep being you and nurture your passion slowly. It’s a beautiful path! 😍❤️

All the best my Nigerian neighbor! I started in Ghana in March. Been overwhelming and yes my family is in disbelief. I go out and shoot anything that captures my interests. I experiment with my friends in portraits or concepts or in walks. Biko Biko go and shoot my dear all the best 😍✨✨

Although photography has a degree of theoretical knowledge attached to it, you can become too hindered by it. You definitely learn far more by simply going out and finding what works and what doesn't. As long as the basic understanding of exposure is grasped, the rest, such as light and composition etc is really down to trial and error. Thankfully with creators like Laura, who make the impossible seem possible, it gives encouragement to those who want to give photography a try or those who want to turn it into a profession. I enjoy watching Laura's tutorials as they are realistic which is her appeal; and her eyes. She has amazing eyes.

Hi Laura, I just started watching your videos and following you. Thank you for your great advices. You are inspiring with your story, experience and work. I have always loved taking pictures but I just started getting more into it, editing landscapes and street photos. I just love it. ❤ I live in London as well and I am always disappointed with the rainy weather. But as you said, a great photos can be done. Every weather and season can bring its own beauty. Thank you☀️❤

Absolutely agree with not needing to go to university. I encourage people to go and to focus on business. By all means get a dual degree, there are lots of things I never would have learned without getting a photography degree. But I also was working at the same time. It took me 10 years, took classes outside of the degree path, but most importantly I was working. Nobody cares about your degree, nobody is going to not hire you because you don't have a degree. But I know more techniques than I ever would have known to look for and how my camera actually works so I can better to achieve my goal.

Thanks for doing this video😎. I started taking photography seriously in 2018 and I feel like I am ready to try and put myself out there with my portfolio and start a website. I typically swap between using my iPhone and fujifilm xt4 because people tend to get skittish when they see me lift my camera for a shot. I like street photography but I’ve also tried my hand at taking other types of photos as well to train myself to look at different approaches for different shots.

You’re most welcome Christopher! 😍 Definitely! Go for the website so you can have a professional portfolio and give it a go! I know how awkward it can be to point the big camera to someone. 😅With the phone is more discreet but then I always regretted for not having the shot with the good camera. 😄 So nice to to know that you do street photography but you’re also into experimenting with other niches! :) 📸
