It’s so so important for your independence and future or you will be left dependent like women back in third world countries. You’re living in USA. In Western countries you have to have to 2 things in order to survive. Driver’s license & good credit. I hope you get out of your comfort zone & get to it!! All the best!

Aymen Reminds me a lot of myself when I was a pre teen and a teenager . I would like to give some advice. I think one thing that help you to feel a little more independent is build interest in things that you would like learn from the simplest to the more challenging. And if right now driving is not your interest take interest to take the bus. And try to take your brothers advice as an advice not like an insult, it’s hard trust me I know! It’s. Life practice. 💜

Take your time and I promise you will get there. Thank you Wajeeh for these talks👍

Aymen isn't super sheltered by choice. She didn't choose to be dependent on others. That is what being in a controlled environment does, especially to women. Once she leaves her house to travel and be independent, she will learn herself. Wajeeh, please don't compare yourself to Aymen. Aymen is a growing woman and there are huge differences in how women are treated/the challenges they face. Your advice to become more independent is spot on though. I am glad you acknowledged women have it tougher in a Desi household. I hope Aymen pushes against the grain and becomes more independent. LOVED THIS EPISODE. Hope for more updates from Aymen

22 is not old Aymen, don't worry there's plenty of time to learn to drive. You'll get there eventually. Don't sweat your brothers and parents. I didn't get my license until I was 24 in the UK (a lot harder than it is in the US - I guarantee your brothers would fail their tests in the UK).

I know what the big brother is saying, but he doesn’t want his advice to go too far either. Of course, it’s good to be independent and look after yourself, but he doesn’t want Aymen to take it too far and isolate herself from her family. Be independent and less reliant on others, but be close to your family. Having family help you now and again is good. That’s what keeps ties strong. But relying on them too much isn’t good ‘cos that’s how people get annoyed.

I don't why boys complain when their mother's push them to achieve a good degree which can lead them to a good job and be financial comfortable in the long run. It's only going to benefit them in the long run, with finding a wife as women look for financial stability, and to be able to provide and earn respect. I hate that they blame their mum who is more involved with their life when really if anyone was to be blamed or pointed a finger at should be the father, as they say he's never been involved and always stays quiet.

Consequently, the pressure on elder sis to figure out college, uni, job also also be a good daughter (washing, laundry, vaccuming, organising, cleaning) plus she should be welcoming and does not complain and obedient we actually fulfil both duties and privilege for younger brothers they just need to be independent. Not forgetting they aint worth it all that you do still if they do not get married on time or settle despite odds around.

I totally understand your sister with the driving. I got my license at 16, because I was not able to take the bus to the school I was attending. However, if I had people to give me a ride I probably wouldn’t have gotten it either. I still remember that first driving practice with my instructor. I got so anxious that I could not think clearly. At one point I was turning left when he said stop, and he ended up using the passengers side emergency break so we wouldn’t crash. The man was stressed lol. I was so embarrassed. Thankfully my dad practiced with me after work at night. We def got flipped off a few times, but my dad would always defend me. He was super patient. Long story short, I took the official test and even the instructor said: I shouldn’t let you pass but I’m gonna let it slide this time. Fast forward to now, my friends consider me a good driver. I know lol if only they knew. I can also parallel park with ease. You gotta just put yourself out there, practice, and not let the anxiety take over.

There's a reason why women are advised to travel with a mahram, so to pressure her into travelling alone and being more independent is not the best of advice Islamically. Hence women and men are different, as men can protect themselves when travelling abroad or in the night etc, whereas a women needs protecting and security. At the same time yes she should grow up, and not think she's got older brothers and her mum to do everything for her
