Ranunculus and anemones are two of our absolute favorite spring blooms! They can be intimidating and require some extra steps to be rewarded with their fluffy goodness. Join us as we walk you through the first step we take in successfully growing these spring beauties. We need to wake 'em up by plumping 'em up! Plus while we're at it, we're going to show you how to DIY corm soaking system that can also be used for brewing a homemade batch of compost tea!

Is it possible to keep ranunculus and anemones in their pots after summer blooms. I will keep them dry inside but not out of the pot for next spring. Please is anyone know? Thanks.

Hi Lina! You’ll want to let the foliage die back and yellow before cutting it back. I prefer to lift, divide and wash but you can leave it in the pot, they will dehydrate but that’s okay- you’ll just need to wake them up again which you can do without pre-soaking too. Let us know how it goes! Happy growing!

Great video! Concise information with a fun couple bringing the details to life. I am going to get my Ranunculus and Anonome started this week and do the presprout method. I planted some in the fall in a cattle panel hoop house as an experiment. They have done very well so far, but temps are dipping down for two weeks in the 20's! ARGH! I know I will cry if they die on me. Thanks for your video...at least I am not alone in this endeavor.

Hi Paige! I know, we dropped the ball on that when we had a rough season on the new property and then again once the shenanigans of 2020 hit. We will be releasing that video hopefully soon! Meanwhile here’s our blog on pre-sprouting. I’m sorry! www.sierraflowerfarm.com/blog/2020/2/25/nitty-gritty-pre-sprouting-ranunculus-amp-anemone-corms

I read your article on your website but still have a question. After soaking, how long do you pre-sprout for? I know you said it takes 1 week for roots to start growing. I was thinking of sprouting them for about 4 weeks before my planting date, is this too long? I don't want to have to screw around with potting them up if I start them too early.

Hi Levi! Thank you for reaching out! It should take the roots about one week to begin sprouting, it can take longer if they are pre-sprouting in colder temperatures. I would say four weeks is a good window for not having to fuss with potting them up (I hear ya!) . I usually like to plant the corms when their roots are at least an inch long. We do have a blog about pre-sprouting the corms and towards the end, you can just scroll to the section about what to do if you are delayed in planting them out. In a nutshell, if your corms are growing too fast for your planting out schedule put them in cooler temperatures, around 37F or so and that should slow them down. Here’s the link to that blog in case you missed it, hope this helps and happy growing! www.sierraflowerfarm.com/blog/2020/2/25/nitty-gritty-pre-sprouting-ranunculus-amp-anemone-corms

@@sierraflowerfarm Thank you for the quick reply! I did read that blog post and it was very helpful. I will plan on pre-sprouting for 3-4 weeks. I appreciate the help.
