That's called a Minor Plagal Cadence, it borrows the minor iv chord from the parallel minor key. The descending chromatic motion in the IV-iv-I evokes a very melancholic feel.

I have been able to play (most) this song for a while but ALWAYS played the 5th bar of the verse wrong due to not understanding strumming pattern, this would of course stuff a bit up for me, but now thanks to you i can do it. The only barchords you need are c maj and c min, the other chords are actually easier to play as barchords than as open chords as most of them use the same shapes I am terrible at playing barchords but after a little regular practise I managed to be able to play this song along and you can definrtly do it, too
