That was most likely still the pilots hand flying. Frequently the autopilot can’t handle wake turbulence encounters and disconnects.

The autopilot capabilities of modern jets are very impressive,the trend towards more automation in the cockpit and having more aids to display relevant information to pilots has dramatically improved flight safety over the last few decades.

The pilots were most likely still hand flying here. It sounds like the aircraft was just cleaned up by the hydraulic sounds and usually the pilots fly it until it is clean, so thank the pilots for their quick response….

I am very used to flying in 737s. I got on a 787 and did notice the difference in seating set up but when I looked outside I was amazed to see how much further the wings extended.

What you are looking at is the wing of an A330. The 787 has no hydraulics but has electronics

It’s wake turbulence. The aircraft was doing a 360° turn and hit its own wake! We call those steep turns. He was most likely doing a 360 for spacing which is common

@@mikehunter1483yeah no, if you’re maintaining your same altitude by the time you make the 360 the wake would’ve descended well below your glide path. Also I haven’t seen an airliner casually do a 360 under normal operations.

the most terrifyng part of fying is when the airplane took off from the ground and start to climb up which actually feels like its falling and the second is when it tries to land it always give me bad feelings

@@robbiebunge859Ok so usually when first departing, the pilots will pitch up to maintain a certain speed in order to gain safe altitude (and noise abatement and other stuff and not overspeed the flaps). Normally at around 1000 to 1500 feet, depending on the departure procedure, climb thrust will be set and the plane will be pitched downward just slightly in order to start increasing speed to retract the flaps.

The flaps being lowered in a terminal area (ie close to airport landing very soon) could have flown through a wake vortex from a jet that was in that area earlier they can last for a good while and travel vertically and laterally

Inboard ailerons are *so* cool, man. These might be flaperons? At any rate…ever since I flew on a DC10 as a young kid, inboard ailerons just get my rocks off. I think it’s because I didn’t know they existed and the DC10 was my first experience on a widebody jet that had such awesome, “extra” control surfaces…

Wake turbulence is only caused by the disturbed airflow from another aircraft. This was likely wind shear.

Just a air pocket. I was on a red eye on the way back from Las Vegas to New York and we were over the Midwest, and the flight was as smooth as silk and then all of a sudden, we dropped 3500 feet. And then it was all smooth again.

I can imagine how it might have felt. I experienced even a worse one where we lifted off our seats and people started screaming and praying. That was in Airbus A340 aircraft.

Think about it we don't see birds just falling out of the sky every day. If a bird can fly then a half million kg plane can fly without falling just keep that in mind 😂 don't be scared it's called turbulent Eddies you can see turbulence in a falcon gliding in a wind gust. It's totally normal don't freak out. You would most likely die in the car on the way to the airport than in flight

Can Any experts please evaluate rougly what EDR rate is that turbulence (0.2 or 0.35 etc) im not pilot just a guy that has a fear of flight so doing some homework to further face my fears. Please and thank you 🙏

These type of wings can bend about 4m up and 1m down without any risk to their structure.

They bent the wings of a 787 about 25 feet upwards, almost 8 meters, without breaking during stress testing of the airframe at Boeing facilities.

@@jaredelliott5778 well, it means one out of 10.000 turbulence cases is strong enough to almost break something related to the wings. Considering that every third flight experiences turbulece, this means one in every 30.000 flights will expereince turbulence so strong that people can be lucky that the rudder and stabilizer are still intact afterwards.
