It's not even in their top 5. Poorly recorded, unfinished songs and too many fillers. Sure, there are a few great tracks, but that doesn't make it a great album. Indeed, Jagger has said so himself.

the life of musicians and the curse of addiction culminating in one of the best outro's in modern music. this song truly cemented my love of the rebellious stones and their incredibly expressive music intoning the ascending melancholy that accompanies these country blues songs. this album was such an awesome display of musicianship and reflection of the tumultuous times in which we were living .

@@herbertluthe6850 100000000000% my friend,if you look up the official lyrics it says pissing rooms also it's quite easy to hear. I think maybe a lot of people think its dressing rooms cause they are not from the uk so pissing rooms doesn't make sense. In the uk the word piss has loads of meanings but in the usa it just means angry. In the uk if you take a piss you have a pee. If you are taking the piss...you are taking the micky,making fun of someone If you went on the piss...then you went out drinking If you were really pissed last night....you were really drunk If you are pissed off...then you are annoyed GOD IM SO FUCKING PISSED...then you are really angry So pissing rooms means toilets but I'm guessing people just assume dressing rooms cause nothing else makes sense to them,but I think there must be an awful lot of deaf people out there,it really is clear that he says pissing rooms

A totally new way of life for a guy who was used to going 1,000 miles a minute and taking in all the bad stuff along the way. Don't want to preach, and by no means does the part end cuz I'm clean, but there's no reason anyone can't get clean, it's a simple program. Peace, Love and Hope, Matt from MI, USA

@Malte Laurids Brigge ....so what did you want him do do? Prance onstage like Jagger? Taylor was strictly business onstage, he didn't have the "rock star" personality that Ronnie and Keith have, probably why he wasn't a good "fit" in the band so to speak. But that didn't take away from his brilliance on guitar. Your "overestimated contribution" comment shows your ignorance in this genre of music. In plain English you're full of shit.

@eightinches6094 5 жыл бұрын
@Malte Laurids Brigge ...I'm responding to your comment, "people like yourself are such fanboys"....yes, I am a fan of MT just like you're a fan of Ronnie Wood. Besides Taylor was not of that fabric where he needs to release "hit songs or albums. After the Stones he didn't even "join" a high profile band. He's low key, he's strictly business but you call that "boring as fuck". Don't get me wrong, I love Ronnie, he has charisma, he's flashy, he still has spiked hair, he has the image of a rock n roll star, he's what the Stones wanted, he's what Keith wanted, it's Keith's band, Keith wanted Ronnie. There will always be debate and conversation on when were the Stones better, during the MT days or Wood days. Everybody has their opinion, mine is MT, yours is Wood. I believe the overall consensus is that the Taylor years were the best for the Stones. He's clearly the better guitarist.
@eightinches6094

@Malte Laurids Brigge ....Your original post was MT was boring as fuck and overestimated contribution. I disputed, or disagreed, with that comment. I stand by my opinion and the consensus of the masses that the MT years were the best for the Stones. That's all I've ever tried to say here.

Now as far as the ‘best album ever’ - well I would definitely say it’s def the Stones’ best album!... there’s just way too many classic rock albums to say best album ever, but you’re not far off w that statement! My God how when I bought this album 21 years ago my old head friend was so jealous of the fact that I was hearing most of these songs for the first time... I was young at the time n into gettin high and it was all very new to me so u can just imagine how much fun I was having as a 20 yr old kid! Fuckin Awesome. Man those were by far the best F’n days of my life! What I wouldn’t do to go back to that time in my life... but hey every time I hear this song it def does always take me back to that time n place. They settled on Nellcote in the south of France because they were tax exiles of course and Keith and Anita were renting there. There was a harbor there with a lot of expensive boats and Nellcote was up on the hill overlooking the harbor. They weren't supposed to record there but Mick and Keith had scouted around for places to record and didn't find anything they liked...........which was not unusual because Mick and Keith often didn't like much of anything. They could be pretty..........we won't call it negative, we'll call it "picky" at times. So they recorded mostly in the basement at Nellcote. There was no "big" room in the basement so oftentimes Charlie would have his drums in one "sweltering" {it was a south of France summer} room and Bill would be playing the bass in another room and perhaps Mick Taylor and Keith would be in another room and maybe the horns would be in another room. They were also using the "Mobile Unit" which was small and pretty primitive at the time. I think the "Mobile Unit" was in the back of some trailer. Now as I said all of this was going on down in the "dank" basement of Nellcote. The power would go out AT LEAST once a day. They'd be in the middle of a nice "take" and the power would go off for an hour and then they'd finally get back to work an the power would go off again. Some times Jagger was there and some times he wasn't. Jagger had married Bianca an Bianca had just had a baby so Mick was commuting from Nellcote to Paris which was an hour or hour and a half away...........so some times Jagger would be there and some times he wouldn't. Same with Bill Wyman. He was living away from Nellcote too. The person who was recording everything was Andy Johns. Andy was the younger brother of the famous Glynn Johns and was only about 20 or 21 years old. You can imagine how excited he was to be doing it. Andy lived about 15 minutes away. Mick Taylor was living at Nellcote. Charlie was.I think Bobby Keys {horn player extraordinaire and Keith's heroin buddy} was staying there. {There were a number of people living there an eventually Anita demanded they pay rent which they did.} Supposedly at one point while they were at Nellcote someone found Nazi insignia's carved in the basement and they found out that Nellcote had been used as an administrative center and "interrogation center" by the Nazi's in the second world war. They'd have these big lunches upstairs every day. 20-25 people. Graham Parsons {Flying Burrito Brothers} Keith's friend from California and supposedly his country influence {Wild Horse's, etc} was there for about a month but Graham became so obnoxious he was asked to leave. {I don't think Graham and Jagger liked each other too much either.......................Keith and Anita and a number of other people didn't like Bianca either you know. They thought that Bianca acted as though her "shit didn't stink" or something.................Jagger would "stay over" sometimes. Every night Keith would have to go upstairs to "put Marlon to bed." {their young son at the time} He'd be gone for a good hour. The others knew "putting Marlon to bed mean't Keith and Anita were "fixing up" their last time of the day.............There was an incredible amount of heroin and alcohol going around Nellcote. Dealers in and out. Keith and his buddy {gopher} Tony Sanchez were copping incredible China White heroin of the highest quality. Tony wrote about it in what I still think is the best book ever written on the Rolling Stones, "Up and Down with the Rolling Stones" by Tony Sanchez. He might of taken some poetic license but it still gives you the best "feel" for the Stones of any book ever written on them...........Keith was in his "Errol Flynn" pirate phase during their time at Nellcote and they'd all go down to this little speed boat they had in the harbor and go out and terrorize the yachts. Anita said it was "great fun."...............Nellcote was really chaotic though and the recording of Exile on Main Street was very chaotic......................like many of the Stones albums ALL the music was NOT recorded at Nellcote. Some of the songs had been written a year or two before and may have been recorded elsewhere. Andy Johns said they had so much material it was unbelievable and much of the material was pretty diffuse and disorganized. Andy said that after they had all the material together they dilly dallied around and they dilly dallied around. At one point he and Mick and Keith got together in Los Angeles but they still didn't finish mixing the album. Keith was very addicted and he often wasn't able too or wouldn't actually put his nose to the grindstone in the studio to mix things. He'd talk about it but often wasn't there when it was time to do it. Jagger and Andy Johns ended up dubbing around trying to mix the Exile album but there was so much material the task was daunting. {This will show you how albums are done.} At one point Jagger went out to have a drink at a bar near the recording studio and happened on a black church and he liked the choir of the church and they did the back up vocals on 2 or 3 songs including Let it Loose. Jagger got some of the horns together too at that time. Eventually Andy Johns and Mick Jagger just said "fuck it" and got together 18 hours a day for four days and mixed Exile on Main Street. ..................{If you listen to the song Rocks Off there is a line which says, "fire the fucking feed" and what Jagger means by "firing the fucking feed" is staying in the studio 18 hours a day on those old reel by reel tapes and "firing the fucking feed" again and again and again......................so they mixed Exile on Main Street {and Jagger never really liked the "mix" because he thought it was "sloppy" and it was. Exile on Main Street was initially received with very mixed reviews. "Sloppy" was a word often used by critics. It was perceived to be of a lower standard than Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers and Beggars Banquet and such...................but then later it became their "masterpiece." Go figure.

the mobile unit was a large green commercial van converted into a rolling mobile studio not a trailer The van was for not just the stones themselves but many stars and bands to record their famous albums on it like Led Zeppelin Fleetwood Mac and Franks Zappa and many others as well. Frank used the truck in his 2000 Motels movie and he had the van painted in green camouflage so you wouldn't see it in the scenes which is the reason why its painted green.. The truck has been decommissioned and retired and now resides in a museum in Calgary Canada

I guess I should consider myself extremely lucky. As I have seen the Stones in concert with the gorup''s Founder, Mr. Brian Jones. This was in September 1967, just before I turned 15. Now, that was the real Stones. Less than 2 years later, Mr. Jones was no more.

I disagree....in my modest opinion there Are THREE ROLLING STONES BANDS... THE JONES (CO-FOUNDER) ERA...THE MICK TAYLOR ERA... WHEN No one band flew SO HIGH...and last Ron Wood ERA.. a kind of Keef glimmer....

This was one for Mr. Keith. The L.P. exile on main street, was a f#$&@+g classic! A double classic. Keith & Sir really came up with the answers on this record. Keith landed a studio, right there on his property, in a French villa, where him & Anita would safely do their dope, and resume their way through their rock & roll life.Others would stay there as guests, like Bobby Keys, Graham Parsons, & a few others on various occassions. That would be the last of times for Mr. Parsons. Whatever they did, worked for the record. "Exile on Main Street", was a double album. A masterpiece actually.

After I started putting my friends in the ground I figured it was time for me to take a different path or I'd be following them soon. You're so right, anyone can do it and it will be the best thing you've done. Nothing feels better than putting all the madness behind you and getting in touch with your feelings again.
