Welcome to the world of Jump Scales. About 40 years ago I had a very overweight load of reels of cable from Washington State to Kramer Junction in the middle of the Mojave desert. I did my best to miss all the scales, and sure enough I did, almost. I was cruising down hwy 395 in eastern California when entering Lone Pine, California I saw set up on the road Jump Scales. This was a two lane road through town. I thought OH! OH!. As I approached them, I saw they were only on the northbound side. I looked up and said "Thank you", and continued to my destination.

@@Kalamabbfan yep. I dodged Ridgefield wa scale every day for 10 years. Until on day one the back road there was an accident. Fire truck and police car directing traffic. He immediately walked up to my window and Guess what the first thing he asked me was? He told me to follow him to the scales

@@Kalamabbfan ya I’ve been taking the road on east side i5 not the casino road. Worked for years and years until one day was an accident on that back road. Cop immediately knew what I was doing. Took me back to scales to make sure I was inspected and cited. Luckily the dot gave me a break. Just wrote me an over weight ticket and didn’t write me up for fake paper logs and avoiding scale. Definitely not doing it anymore nowadays. I have new authority and keep everything 100% clean. I welcome inspections now. Gotta get those passes to build up my safety rating.

I can sooooo relate to the not teaming reasons. After having done that for 3 months (18 years ago), my hubby and I never understood how it is they still find ppl willing to do that. 2 people in 2 different trucks earn more per mile and they get to stop the truck to sleep !

@@Jbutler63 I'm an old school guy now I guess. I still truck like that. Been doin it almost 40 yrs now and I don't use e log. No GPS. Rand McNally truckers atlas if I need it at all. And honestly I just don't anymore. And I also am exempt from e log and paper log for that matter due to what n where I haul and how small the company is. Hope to get another 5 to 10 yrs in and I'll be done.

Trucking in the 80s and nineties , paper logs , running heavy , fast and wild ,produce in the summer , cattle in the fall , Texas valley till Christmas, 1999 fuel was 99 cent inokc poppin 2.35 a hub mile , things were hot diggity . Cashed out in 2001 ,I could never do it any other way, things have really changed .

Love the drone footage. Just adds another dimension to your top quality videos. Use to run team, if you ever want to get the worst sleep of your life, sleep in amoving tractor trailer. There are three sets of wheels, every bump you hit you hit it three times. It’s totally different hitting a bump in a 2500 lb vechile than an 80,000 lb vechile . If you are not into being a smooth operator the guy in the sleeper has a tough go of it. We use to go out like sometimes 3 weeks at a time. You died the first 3 days. Then you short shifted your turn in the bunk and behind the wheel. Five hours behind the wheel 5 hours in the bunk. After 3 weeks you were pretty beat up. Husband and wife teams usually do better, because the person behind the wheel is thinking how things are effecting the one you love. Alice, your such a pro behind the wheel and the camera, your a natural. Martin your a lucky cowboy. It sure is nice that you guys split up the work. There is a truck out there at all times spinning those drivers as the miles and dollars click by. Smart way to do it. Take on just enough work so that everyone gets the miles and the money you need. Plus there is someone home with the kids at all times. Perfect setup. Having two tractors doesn’t mean both have to out at the same time. Plus a fresh driver to start each trip, huge huge bonus as far as safety goes, plus achieving the most mileage you can get out of every gallon. A not so fresh driver will sometimes be not so flexible on getting the best fuel mileage they can. Oh Alice I remember the days you on the low rider toilets, now heated ones. I remember running ice roads when your drive tire was where all of that happened. Anywho guys another great video. A lot of these shippers/receivers hate to let drivers have a decent place to use the facilities. I have a camping potty for that reason. People are just nasty and portajohns are even worse. Love the drone footage. Great addition to the channel. Another person commented y’all seemed different. You do-in a good way. More chill, if you will. Y’all sounded stressed before the move (for good reason). All I can say about team driving is God bless those that can do it. I definitely could not. Who can sleep bouncing around like that on the crappy roads across the US? Not me, for sure. To borrow from Hondo and SWAT-Stay liquid.

Alice & Martin you all the Peterbuilt looking really good I have a suggestion since you all took the side skirts off the fuel tanks what would look really sharp if you all had the fuel tanks painted maybe black would look good it reds up the red. Been watching Semi - Casual on utude and they have down a couple show trucks like that and I'd never think that painting the fuel tanks on a solid color would make a difference and boy does it set the truck off. Good like you all glad to see you got set in your knew home and got the truck going

15:58 one of our companies new 589’s lost an EGR cooler. 14 month old truck. Seems like the new trucks are broke down more than the 600K mile 2020 I drive. 17:40 Allie Knight used to crack me up. Going by a weigh station, she would say weigh ? no weigh ? Green light on pre pass - “no weigh” !! 😂

Been there done that!!!! Bout 10 different times over 40+ years.... Only 1 write up and it was in ohio in tge early 2000's on Route 23 south of toodlee Dooo.... tire wear cupping on a Forward air trailer... not out of service just a write up... which was just the beginning of the FMCSA stuff...

Dot should never be allowed to be doing any inspections on any truck unless you are at a weight station, dot should not be allowed to be doing inspections at a truck stop or road side rest area

it’s a neck gaitor, little bit of a fight with it to stretch over the wheel but it can be done. i cut slits on the sides for the levers on my truck, Fancy (the w900) also has one but no cut outs so you can get away without cutting also.

I hear ya on that team driving stuff. We run about 150 miles radius of home for the most part. Sometimes, we get out further. Before we had 2 trucks he would run days and I run the night shift. Did that for about 4 yrs then the kids were old enough. It's ruff but you do what you got to do. Kids are gone and have grandkids now and we decided to by a truck for me to be owner operator. He stayed company to have the benefits for us both. Everyone ask us about team and I say no way..like you said in video besides his house cleaning is bad and it would drive me insane to say the least. You guys remind me of us..but younger. Lol go with the flow and do you.And super cool I've got a 579 so I look to you guys for help on your videos! We are located in the west corner of Minnesota so not that far away. I’m a former OTR driver of 32 years now retired due to my having Parkinson’s. My last truck was a 2020 579 Peterbilt and it had that issue of losing air in the transmission while backing. Also the Jake brakes would become inoperable at speeds less than 25 mph. That was my third Peterbilt in 20 years and the worst truck I ever drove.

sorry to hear that, so on the newer trucks the jakes are often a program thing, ours work down to 5 mph but we changed the settings on them ourselves. Mine is my 4th well 5th Pete I’ve owned/drove (had a 387, 379, 378 and now the 579’s) the first 579 rarely did the low air transmission thing and the one I drive only does it in certain situations such as uneven docks - it’s annoying for sure though!

@@TruckingTogether first Peterscooter I had was a former dirt hauler that was run hard and put away wet. It had a DD 500 with a 13 speed and 267 inch wheelbase with a long hood. It was a good running truck despite having high mileage when it was purchased. I had some colorful adventures in it. Second Pete was another 379 with a shorter wheelbase and smaller hood. It had a C-13 CAT with a regular 10 speed transmission. I have been married to my first and only wife for 38 years. We have two grown children who had their dad away from home for most of their lives. They spent time with me in the truck during their breaks from school. Even though I was gone a lot I made sure to be home for the important events in their lives.

@@TruckingTogether Yes I understand your thinking. I only tried to say that I've learned that the day/evening crew will say anything to get you out of their hair. Morning crew does not know what time you got there, so (after a few of these situations) I started to check in close to actual appointment time because there is nobody gonna be able to tell you that it's wrong to 'arrive' half hour before appointment. My hubby did not like it because he always kept hoping on a miracle that a 3 hour early check in would result in a 3 hour early (off) loading. 😘

How do you run out and straight back ? You said you and marten do a week out and switch . I’m out of porterville ca also pull reefer and I’ve been doing the o.o for a little over a year and dang has it been hard to go out a week and find something even coming back much less it being a good paying load . Do you guys have direct customers or is this all from the load board? Been driving for 11 yrs but 10 of those yrs have been local. Wanted to get my feet wet as an o.o liking it but got a family as well .

This is load board stuff, we don’t go to dead areas and stay vigilant looking for freight days ahead. I haven’t even left the house yet and already have a round trip set up.

I use DAT and I try to do the heat map but like I said I can usually get a banger leaving and then coming back it’s been tough everything I find coming back to California is dirt cheap like $1.15 -$1.60 max . So I choose to go to the surrounding areas and work from there getting back home . Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. Also love the content new subscriber.

If all Semi Truck Drivers did everything right law enforcement wouldn't have to do there job. Drunk driving and doing drugs. Hit and runs. No doing Pre-trips or Post trios. Keeping alcohol in there cabs. Road raging with other drivers. Drivers falling asleep causing accidents. Drivers falling alcohol and drug tests. Drivers looking at there phones killing people and themselves. I could go on and on.
