I know several PMHNPs and their success made me join Walden. I think not everyone learns the same way and need more classroom/professor support. After 8 years in the mental health field I feel pretty good about it so far. People need to do research on what program is right for them. Walden is regionally accredited which is more prestigious than nationally accredited. I will agree the student advisors kind of suck.

I go to Walden studying masters in social work. It’s hard because I reach out to the instructors but they never get back to me. No power points, basically you just look at the book and readings and hope you understand the material. Luckily I know some stuff but some things I do not and I’m having a hard time understanding the information. I had personal problems in June basically our electric got shut off and than I thought I had Covid, of course no help from the instructors and I missed 2 assignments. I get they get a ton of excuses but sometimes life happens.

I had the same experience and was left without interaction with a student advisor for over 5 months and the person that I was e-mailing never returned my email so I requested another one. The student Advisor didn't come into the picture until the final month of my last practicum of PMHNP. They also had me take the entire PMHNP program and I thought I was graduating only to find out that in my prior undergrad with Walden I was allowed to take a Grad course Adv Pharm which I really knew nothing about being a nurse for over 30 years, not a prescriber and certainly not a student! and now this Grad course was in addition to my undergrad program I was currently in at the end the undergraduate course had a Grad course given. I like you got a "C" not failing it but of course, it left me with a lower GPA toward my MSN ( but I didn't understand the point system either) and the student advisor didn't tell me to retake it and that it would make me short as I went onto my Master program. Of course like you said, we can not register ourselves we are given already our pre-registered courses and you have no control. But, you would think they could pre-seen this as a student advisor and add on the extra repeat course before I completed all the PMHNP Program and not have to petition to re-enter the college and then be expected to pay more money. They should have been held accountable and be paying for me having to retake a course that I felt I should have been given awareness as to rectify while it could have been added, had they done so in time before the program was over and done with. Do you mean to tell me our tuition money goes to pay for incompetent student advisors' ill direction? The last one I had told me she is new to the college of nursing altogether, this is not making me feel any more confident from this poor outcome, I was a guinea pig. Now due to their negligence and irresponsible student advisor falling short and not communicating; and yes this goes back to them being a "for profit". By the way, Conscious Colmon, I value your awareness regarding the student advisors and the way they "suck".

Hi Genisa, I am sorry for this horrible experience. This is absurd! I agree with the lack of communication. I always tell others that just because they did not experience what we experience doesn't mean it didn't happen. Thank you for this validation. Where are you in the program now?

Goodluck! 🙌🏽 The best advice that I can tell you is week 4 & week 9 the “comprehensive assessment” is the MOST important weeks that you need to do your absolute best. You score below 80 and you are out of the class. I made this careless mistake in week 9 and I had to repeat the whole class. A friend of mine who is taking this class currently said that alot have change from the class format but the week 4 & 9 is the same (pass or fail the whole class). Hi Mindy, the only difference between the program in the last 4 clinical rotations that we need to complete. It is geared towards your program. The first 9 or maybe 10-ish classes are all the same. Sorry to hear your experience with Walden U was not ideal. I graduated from Walden U in November 2021, with my MSN-FNP, and my experience was 100% different then what you have shared in this video. The classes at Walden are difficult, and the FNP portion of the program wholly prepared me for the boards. I passed the boards yesterday with 1 hour to spare. The final in the FNP program was much more difficult than the AANPCB certification. All my grades were based on the rubric, and the rubric was provided to me after every assignment. The professors at Walden are top notch, and work in their fields. One of my professors is a Dean of Nursing at a university in Nevada. Contacting professors, and advisors was easy, and scheduling a meeting with a professor was easy as well, and quick. Bottom line is time. If a person does not make time available to study, and/or procrastinates, then this program is not for you. I would 100% recommend Walden.

@RN-PRN3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I have to say it depends on each individual. I was full-time up until 2 semesters ago, working 36 hrs a week and a per diem job. I decided to take it slow for mental reasons. I could go full-time, with a full-time job but I always think of family first, work second (to pay bills), and education third (always going to be available when I'm ready). Try to take two classes from the 5 core classes and see how you like it and if it's manageable. Then go from there. Look up other schools as well, which I'm sure you have. In the next month, I'm releasing more videos about WaldenU to help with your questions which I hope it would help. Good luck, and keep me posted with your decision.
