A Waldhexe in clasic German folklore is the one who tried to eat Hänsel and Gretel. In modern German culture/children's storys, the Waldhexe has a more benign connotation, as the protagonist in picture books or sometimes as a nickname for women who enjoy growing herbs/foraging/hiking/living in a forest. It has a largely positive connotation. Germans may think of a cute children's song or nursery rhyme when hearing the title of thos song. I sure did. So the song was a surprise.😭😄

This comes from a non d&d game the cast of critical role did during covid. It was a form of telephone where they took turns coming up with a story recording it and sending it to one cast member who would warch it once and record their version. Basically story telephone Liam was olaying caleb widowgast/bren who was a citizen of s germanic themed nation. He along with two of his frinds was torture trained into secret assasins. When he created his telephone story was a witch story that was aligorical for his characters bacstory. He kept the germanic themes hence the name. (Several terms are basically mispelled german in the game as well eg volstruckers instead of vollstreker

The title is german: "Forest Witch" The text is german too sometimes. "Grossmutter" does not mean muttering revoltingly but rather is the german word for grandmother.

As a Dutchie who understands and speaks some German, I was really wondering why the German word of grandmother was just randomly used, so thank you for giving me the association 😅

Hey man, learning other languages is hard, and also a very worthy pursuit. Just because Chase wasn't able to instantly learn to pronounce German like a native speaker doesn't mean he deserves to be shat on for it. This is a really unkind way to approach someone trying something new.

@@GinnyDi Google translate is right around the corner with text to speech. Großmutter/Grossmutter is a bloody damn easy word.
