Waldorf Iridium - CV Inputs - Patching with Modular

The Waldorf Iridium is a new synthesizer from WALDORF. It brings the infinite possibilities of the Quantum synthesizer to a more portable (and much more affordable) format.
The Iridium has six CV inputs. It is possible to modulate all parameters of the synthesizer with external sources like Sequencers or modulation generators. I show a few patch ideas.
++UPDATE++ At 07:12 I show that the Iridium is not in tune with the Metropolis sequencer. I found out that there is a menu in which it is possible to calibrate the inputs to 1 V/Oct. For some strange reasons it is set to 11,8 V/Oct by default.

Thank you! I know that there is a thru mode, you can use the granulator engine for live sampling. But I never tried that our myself so far.

This is really cool! Is it possible to send cv/gate into the Irridium to rhythmically chop up a held chord? I would like to be able to play chords on a midi keyboard and have them rhythmically chopped up with cv / gate input coming from an external sequencer. Ideally I would be able to trigger amp and filter envelopes in the Irridium

Hello Martin -- great video. Question...before you started manipulating pitch with Metropolis, were you generating those pretty chords with a keyboard that was out of the frame?

Thanks! Yes, the Iridium is connected to Ableton as External Instrument so that I can play and sequence it with any of my keyboards.

Man kann zwei unterschiedliche Stimmen gleichzeitig spielen. Wenn die Zeit da ist mache ich natürlich auch Musik, im Moment muss ich mich erst selbst damit auseinandersetzen und verschiedene Features austüfteln.

Question 1: What if you increase the modulation depth from one octave to two octaves in the Metropolis? (or route the CV output on the Metropolis through an amplifier before going to the Iridium CV input?) Would that increase the resulting pitch interval in the Iridium? Or is the Iridium simply capped to a major third regardless of the CV that it receives? Question 2: Am I correct in thinking that the Iridium does not have the analog filters from the Quantum? If so, are there any other differences between the synth engine in the Iridium vs the synth engine in the Quantum?

Answer 1: You can calibrate the intensity of the CV input in the Iridium and have a correct pitch. Answer 2: The Iridium has no analog filters. But they doubled the polyphony to 16 voices, added a multiode, a sequencer and the CV inputs. I never used a Quantum it´s possible that I missed some features that are exclusivly in the Iridium.

Were you able to get the "Clock In" to work? I can confirm that the "Start In" cv input works, but I am unable to get my Iridium to respond to the signals I'm sending to the "Clock In".

Hi! As far as I know there was a bug in the CV clock. But it should now work. Try to download and install the latest OS now!

Hi! This is not really my cup of tea but it is possible to import the Wavetable folder from Serum. Iridium has a few distortion and wavefolding algos so I think that you could to something like this with it.

Hi Mate, now that the keyboard version is available to order, do you think it's worth paying the extra for it or would you still go for desktop? I think it's about 400 quid more for the keys version, I'm in two minds about which version to get. If you were choosing one now today which option would you go for?

I am lucky to report that I just got the Keyboard version! They keyboard is one of the best that I ever played on and has polyphonic aftertouch. But the whole thing is much bigger. So it depends on your setup. The sound engine and software are exactly the same.

It's sonic capabilities for modulation outside the box of the normal are extensive. Plus I do love the Anolog tonal characters etc. Have you ever been interested in it? I've heard some ambient tracks done on it and it's sublime.

MayDay I have both the Iridium keyboard and the Polybrute. Both brilliant. Polybrute warmer and the morph feature is incredible. The Iridium does more but the Polybrute is analog. Depends what you’re looking for.

Very cool, thanks for showing the CV’s. Out of interest what was going on with maths going into the intelligel module in the first part. Was that doing anything with regards to the iridium?

Thanks! I was just too lazy to unplug the patch cable. Only maths output 1 was connected to the Iridium in this example.

You could get the same result with the internal sequencer (which I am going to show in another video). I hope the Quantum will get the Sequencer in an update!
