yeah that chorus is cool. never thought to phase modulate low res oscillators, but the lower bits phasing against themselves is a really trippy effect.

I'm sure you can dial in (close to) the craziness and filth from the XT on the M or Iridium, but there is something about the XT and Q from back in the day that are just unbeatable.

So, does the M Wavetable pretty well replicate much of what the MICROWAVE XT did? For coming up with these wierd, sustaining noises, which is better... the Korg Modwave or the Hydrasynth? 17:48 That's your song backbone right there! Groovin'!

LOVED my MXT, but sold it because, as with so many other Waldorf synths, over time, the rotary encoders always start to fail.....great video upload....
@tommyg5095 Жыл бұрын
O.k. But, can't they be replaced...???
@willswitchcraft Жыл бұрын
not easily....First of all, Waldorf went bankrupt years ago, and the company that bought the name, does not seem to have abundant replacement parts, nor an interest in supporting products that were in production in that old version of the company. Furthermore, I live in a remote area in Canada, so I'd have to send my gear off to a repair place, and hope that they can source parts......Then......I'd have to deal with the reality that the replacement encoders could be just as poorly made........It's a Shit Show

@@willswitchcraft I guess there is that reality of these older synths needing upkeep/repairs.... I suppose I could take a closer, more involved look at a synth that has caught my attention, that being the 3rd Wave. At the moment very few are offered up on the used market. Patience is a virtue...

how does this compare to a Blofeld, most of thhose options regarding filter types, osc, fm, filter fm, etc... looks prety similar actually. Great content ;)

I’d say the blofeld is “warmer”, & less digitally distinctive (for its VA oscillators), & the XT is just digital insanity (in ways analogue can’t touch). With that said, I have preferred using my Blofeld as it has 2 fully feature multi-mode filters, along with 2 milti-mode distortion stages, allowing for some awesomely dirty bass & leads. They both have the crazy math equation mod sources. In truth you could easily own both & justify it.

The MW II (which is virtually identical) is on my wish list, off and on at least. Given that I don't have an awful lot of space where I have my synths, a module makes more sense. Unfortunately, some sellers have some misguided ideas about what these are worth, and ask for twice the average selling price.
@saren6538 Жыл бұрын
Microwave 1 blows them both away
@SeverityOne Жыл бұрын
@@saren6538 I'd say it's a matter of taste. The channel RetroSound (which is best avoided if you're suffering from Gear Acquisition Syndrome) has a video with a side-by-side comparison between the MW1 and MW2. Whilst a lot of people prefer the MW1, I personally prefer the clearer sound of the MW2. It's also considerable less expensive. The MW1 has been hovering around €1800 for quite a while now. And while asking prices for the MW2 are moving towards the "are you mad?!" price range, they're still cheaper.
